The Hood River Valley Swim Team Opsrey had 5 swimmers compete in the Animal Meet this past Saturday in Canby, Oregon. Our 12 & Under Animals, Christopher Dankenbring, Nora Sandoval and Thea Smith all competed in the 200 yd Individual Medley, 100 yd butterfly and 500 yd freestyle. Our 13 & Over Animals, Sarah Arpag and Jade Smith, competed in the 400 yd Individual Medley, 200 yd butterfly and 1000 yd freestyle.
Special congrats to Christopher and Nora for placing 2nd in their age groups and bringing home an Animal Pendant to wear in honor of their great swims! Nora was first in the 500 with a big 5 sec drop for a 5:39.05. She also dropped 8 seconds in the 100 fly for a 1:10.52 and a tenth in the 200 IM to swim a 2:32.96. Christopher did a season best in the 100 yd fly with a 1:10.12, was also 2nd in the 500 yd free with a 5:54.34 and 3rd in the 200 yd IM with a 2:36.77 to secure his 2nd place finish. Thea dropped over 3 seconds in her 400 yd IM for a 5:47.22, and swam her first 200 yd butterfly in 3:06.19 and her first 1000 yd freestyle in a 12:47.55.
Sarah scored her first A time of the year by dropping 12 seconds in the 1000 yd free and a 2nd place finish of 12:04.97, she also took off 6 seconds in the 200 yd fly (2:43.84) and 3 seconds in the 400 yd IM (5:24.85). Jade dropped 18 seconds in the 1000 free for a 12:43.65 and swam her first ever 400 yd IM in a 5:48.61.
Next up for the Osprey is the Seth Dawson Memorial swim meet in Gresham, Oregon the first weekend in the New Year.
