The Hood River Valley Swim Team Osprey competed at the Canby Valentine's Day Last Chance meet on February 11th. The goal of the last chance meets are to get qualifying times for the State A championships that come up later in the season, as well as providing a great opportunity to see where you are in your other events. The Osprey managed to snag a couple more A times – Sarah Arpag in the 100 yd backstroke (1:05.24) and Gavin Hackett in the 200 yd Individual Medley (2:33.91). Notable were two times that missed qualifying standard by only .02 seconds were Sarah Arpag in the 100 yd freestyle and Skyla Hollowell in the 50 yd freestyle events. (so close!)
Biggest drops at the meet were Christopher Dankenbring in the 400 yd Individual Medley with a 15 second improvement (4:25.27) and Thea Smith in the 500 yd freestyle with an 18 second improvement (6:00.05).
Aili Archbald swam to 3 personal best times (100 yd IM, 50 yd free, 50 yd breaststroke), as did Jackson Bullock (50 yd free, 200 yd free and 50 yd backstroke) and Skyla Hollowell (50 yd free, 100 yd free and 200 yd IM).
Chloe Carter had a personal best time in the 50 yd freestyle where she swam to a 30.89. William Frost swam to a personal best in the 50 yd freestyle with a 43.45. Ava Giordano swam a best time in the 50 yd breaststroke, Willow Hollowell had a best time and 2nd place finish in the 100 yd freestyle, and Nora Sandoval swam to a win in the 500 free with a time of 5:40.05.
Next up for the Osprey are the State Championships, beginning with 10 & Unders at Tualatin Hills next weekend.
