Alberta Long Course Spring Championship Swim Meet
Coaches Report – Corey Bradbury
March 15-18, 2019
7 swimmers and myself attended the Alberta Long Course Spring Championship in Edmonton over the weekend of March 15-18. This meet is a great opportunity for our top athletes to compete in the long course (50m) format and to prepare for larger more senior meets. It also provided an opportunity for our athletes to compete against the top swimmers of the province of Alberta.
The meet was held over the course of 4 days. Thursday being long course events and each day Friday – Sunday consisting of morning (heats) and evening (finals) sessions. This is a long meet and it provides our athletes with a great opportunity and experience to prepare for swimming faster later in the day. Our focus and goals for the meet, as discussed at the beginning of each session, was to prepare focus on swimming aggressive in the long course format and to rest and prepare for finals each evening.
All swimmers had a great experience with some getting personal best swims. More importantly they all gained valuable experience swimming long course and competing at a provincial championship meet. Out of the 33 events the team was registered in there was 17 finishes in the top 20 and 5 finishes in the top 10. Also there were 8 club records for long course events set that weekend.
