Aspen Swimmers were busy this past weekend.
Lillie Boggs represented Aspen Swim Club at the 5K Open Water Jr. Nationals in Miami, FL. She was one of 9 thirteen-year-olds, in a field of 71 athletes (16 & under). This was Lillie’s first open water race, and she had much to learn quickly. She was nervous, but poised. Open water swimming is a contact sport; the start was chaotic and aggressive. Lillie, being the sweet young girl we all know, let all swimmers go first. She was left out of the race draft, yet, she fought her way around the 5K course and finished 55th. The first thing she said after swimming for an hour and 6 minutes was… “I would do it again.” Lillie is a brave young swimmer with many great races in front of her. When you see her on deck, be sure to let her know how proud we are of her.
Meanwhile 6 members of the Gold group competed at the Steve Drozda Shotgun Long Course Invite in beautiful Thornton, CO. What a great pool. The team of Davy, Emily, Lilly, Layla, Kayla, and Ava started out great on Friday night. We had awesome swims, but lost a few close races. Saturday’s goal was to continue swimming well, and start winning those close races. They accomplished that goal and Saturday was a successful day two. By Sunday the swimmers were getting use to our coaching style, and we certainly enjoyed getting to know their racing personalities. Our swimmers maintained focus and finished the meet Strong. Thank you ladies for bringing out the best in each other.
Don’t forget about the HS boys! They swam in Glenwood Springs on Friday night and are now getting ready for their Championship Season to begin.
Great Job Aspen Swimmers!!!!
