Message from the CSL Piranhas Board

Our summer swim team season begins in just a few days and the coaches are ready to help turn your child(ren) into a fish.  We are looking forward to a fun and competitive summer filled with learning and confidence building.  

Thank you to the families who came out to the parent meeting last weekend. It was great to meet the new families and catch up with those returning. If you were not there or felt overwhelmed, below are some highlights from our meeting. We’ve also included our parent’s pamphlet for your reference as well.  Please review and let us know if you have any questions.

Lastly, we are happy to announce our new assistant coach, Lindsay Vinson. Lindsay is a former collegiate swimmer from the University of Pittsburgh where she was a three year captain, relay record holder, and national qualifier.  She grew up in Kansas where she was a four time 6A swimming champion.  Lindsay has experience coaching all age groups from 6U to the high school level.  She is currently a 2nd grade teacher at Creightons Corner Elementary.  Lindsay lives in Ashburn with her husband Matt and their two kids Riley and Camden who will both be joining the team this year.

Piranhas Spirit Day– May 31st

Calling all swimmers…Show your Piranhas spirit and wear your 2019 Piranhas T-shirt or your favorite Piranhas spirit wear to school. Be sure to snap a photo and send it to [email protected] so they can be posted to our social media accounts!

Pre-Season Kick-off Pizza Party and Kona Ice Fundraiser – May 31st

We will have a pre-season kick-off party on May 31st at the Community Pool for our CSL families. This is the first of several social events of the season. Please bring your Broadlands pool pass for admittance to the pool. More information about obtaining your pool passes can be found

We will also be holding a Kona Ice fundraiser where 20% of all proceeds go back to the team. Come ready to support the team!

Team Swimsuits

Team swimsuits are needed by Time Trials on June 8th. If you haven’t had a chance yet, please visit Cassells in the next week to get fitted for your Piranhas swimsuit. This is especially important in case they need to special order a size for your child.

This season's suit is the TYR Phoenix Splice, but you just need to tell the folks at Cassel's that you swim for the Piranhas CSL team and they will know how to help you. You do have to go to Cassel’s in person to try on and purchase the suits.

Cassel’s Sports & Awards (703-435-4446) is located at 2816 Towerview Rd, Herndon, VA 20171. The prices for the suits are as follows: Female one-piece - $59.99, Male Jammer-$39.99, Male Brief - $31.99. These prices do not include the sales tax.

Parking Space Raffle Fundraiser Winner

5 Days Left to Order Spirit Wear!!

This is where you can buy anything team related for either your swimmer or yourself. This year we've brought back our team favorites and included a couple of new items such as the Piranhas mesh bag and the Piranhas towel. Mornings can be a little chilly! Be sure to pick up a sweatshirt or a zipped hoodie so we are once again ablaze in Piranhas Spirit Wear. Check out this year’s new look :).

o The team store is now open and will close on May 29th 2019.  Once the store is closed, we cannot add on to the order or create new individual orders - this is your one and only chance to order. 

o The Hoodies can be personalized with your last name.  The personalization option will be visible once you SELECT the garment from the list of products.

o Please disregard any shipping information.  All orders will be picked up by the team and distributed on deck.  The time for distribution will be announced later so watch out for that broadcast.

o Once you receive your confirmation email, please disregard any follow up emails the system may automatically generate.  Once your order is placed, all further communication will be directly with team representative to avoid any confusion. 

If you have any online store questions, please contact your team Apparel rep,Kristen Bailey at [email protected] . She, in turn, will work with Reston Shirt to answer any concerns. Please do not call the store.  Not all salespeople are familiar with your order.  This has been found to be the most efficient way of handling any concerns/questions.

Team T-shirts and Swim Caps

If you were not able to attend to pick up your swimmer's team shirt, Kristen will be available at the first few practices to continue handing them out, and will be selling caps and magnets at those practices as well.

Swim caps will be sold next week at the evening practices $5 for latex and $15 for silicone caps

*No practice 6/7, 6/10, 6/11, 7/4 Coach Kyle unavailable. LCPS requires teacher to be in session during these days.

White Division

After spending two years in the Red Division, we are looking forward to a summer where we will return to the White Division. According to the projections, we are expected to do well. We will continue to compete against very talented teams and believe our families will have a better experience this summer!


The participation of our swimmers’ parents is essential to the success of the swim team.  Parents are required to volunteer at 4-5 different swim meets during the season, doing such duties as timing, clerk of course, timekeeper, meet set up and clean up, concessions or meet officials.  

In addition to swim meet duties, each family is required to participate on one of the Piranhas committees. Each committee is responsible for planning and executing one of the many activities or programs the team offers to the swimmers.  

Volunteer signups are done online.  As stated at the parent meeting, if you do not fulfill your (4-5) volunteer and committee obligations by the end of the season, you will not be allowed to register next season as a returning family.  

Without all positions filled for each meet, we cannot run the meet.  If two family members do a job at the same meet, it counts as only 1 volunteer slot. If you sign up and then your child does not swim, you are still responsible for fulfilling your volunteer position.  

Volunteer slots will be available on the website starting Tuesday May 28th at 8:00am.  Click “job signup” next to a given meet date.  The committee sign up will also be available as of May 28.  We need people to help with our spirit nights, social events, community service, sponsorship/fundraising, and swimmer recognition just to name a few.  Attached is a list of the committee chairs and their contact information if you have questions before signing up.  

The board will be providing walk-throughs of some of the volunteer positions during the evening practices.  This will allow you to get a feel for what the job is.  Dates and times to come.  

Meet Days

Wednesday meets are open to all swimmers.  A rough time frame is approximately 4:30pm – 9:00pm.  Sometimes they go later due to a high volume of swimmers on both teams.

Saturday meets are the “A” meets where the team earns points.   A rough time frame is approximately 6:30 – 11:00am.  Coaches select swimmers for this meet based on qualifying times, availability, and the best placement to help get the best possible scores.  

Families need to mark their swimmer’s availability on the website for each meet.  If you know you will not be there, please mark them unavailable as soon as possible.  The system will default the swimmer to be available unless you change it.
