**Four Aquazot Swimmers Selected as SCS
Four young Aquazot Swimmers were selected as a part of the Southern California All-Star team which traveled to Oregon to compete in the Western Zone Championships last week. Only 8 swimmers in each age group and gender are selected to represent SCS at this meet, so even being chosen for this team is a big accomplishment!
The Aquazot swimmers attending the meet were Taylor Thongintra (10&under boys), Zara Masud (11&12 girls), Alex Schwartz (11&12 boys), and Ellie Scalzo (13&14 girls).
Taylor Thongintra competed great at the meet, with 2 top-8 placings and another 2 top-16 results. In his specialty, the breaststrokes, Taylor finished in 5th place in both the 50 brst (39.11) and the 100 brst (1:27.75). Taylor added to those results with a 9th place finish in the 200 IM (2:47.68) and a 13th place finish in the 100 fly (1:20.22). Taylor also swam breaststroke on the SCS 200 Medley Relay, helping them to a 3rd place finish in 2:23.46.
Zara Masud had a busy schedule at Zones, competing in 6 individual events and all 4 relays, for a total of 2,100 meters of racing over the 5 days! Zara handled this tough schedule well, with 3 top-8 finishes and one relay championship win. Zara placed 4th in the 400 Free(4:41.91), 6th in the 200 Free (2:14.32), and 7th in the 200 Fly (2:35.80). In the 400 medley relay, Zara swam the fly leg, and helped her SCS team win the event with a time of 4:30.57. Zara also placed 9th in the 100 back (1:10.10), 10th in the 200 IM (2:30.92), and 10th in the 100 Fly (1:06.98), earning a total of 63 individual points for her Southern California Team!
Alex Schwartz competed in the 11/12 boys age group, and had a full schedule as well, with 2,050 meters of racing during the meet. The highlight of Alex’s meet was a first place finish in the 400 Freestyle, in a close race, to end the season with a best time of 4:31.94. Alex also added a 4th place finish in the 200 Free (2:11.13), a 13th place finish in the 200 Back (2:34.19), and a 14th place finish in the 200 Brst (2:55.41). Alex was also on two SCS relays which placed 1st: the 200 & 400 freestyle relays.
Ellie Scalzo swam in 5 individual events and 4 relays at Zones, and had her best results in the relay events, helping her squads to several top placings. In the 400 medley relay, Ellie swam the breaststroke leg, posting a very good 1:18.62, and helping the team finish in 8th place. Ellie also split a 37.80 on the breaststroke leg of the 200 medley relay, and a 30.36 on the 200 free relay.
Congratulations to all four of our Aquazot 13&under swimmers on qualifying for this prestigious meet, and representing both Southern California and Aquazot so well!
