2019/2020 Short Course Info email

I have sent an email this afternoon to all active members on the website.  If you did not receive this email, please let me know!  [email protected]

Good afternoon Otters!

We hope you all had a wonderful summer and a great first few days at school!  Fliers went out to students at school today about our upcoming season, but we wanted to give you additional information.  Just a couple of weeks until we begin full practice! Registration forms were uploaded last week to the  www.oxfordotters.com  website for you to print and fill out.  You can locate them by clicking the "Documents" tab at the top of the website or attached to this email.  We also encourage you to spread the word to anyone you know that may be interested in swimming! Reminder: we do accommodate anyone that swims for their school and won’t turn you away, please see the different fees for boys and girls that are on school teams.

We will be holding evaluations for all new and returning swimmers; except those already placed in our Senior level.  Evaluations are scheduled for Mon Sept 16th & Wed Sept 18th from 5:30-7:30 at the Oxford High School Pool. Please bring your registration forms and payment with you for evaluations, we will also have a sign in sheet when you get there.  Please allow coaches time to give each swimmer a fair evaluation. Full team practice will begin Fri Sept 20th, as well as our normal practice on Sat Sept 21. We will have level assignments for you before practice on Friday the 20th.

Just a bit about USA Swimming: We encourage swimmers to join our USA Swimming program, but it does take a little extra work!  USA swimmers havel practices on Tues and Thurs nights during the season in addition to Yankee League practice. They also have the opportunity to attend additional meets.  We WILL hold practice for USA swimmers that first week of evaluations (Tues Sept 17th and Thurs Sept 19th from 7:15-9:00). In an attempt to help our program grow, this year the Otters Board has decided to give each member of our USA Swimming program a credit of $100 to be used for Splash Fees.  If you have any questions regarding the USA Swimming program, please contact me ( [email protected] ).

You will hear the coaches and board members saying this all season, but we truly can not do everything we do without the help of our volunteers!  We are looking to expand some of the special events and activities we do each year and will need your help! As we have in the past we will have both our Lyman Orchards pie fundraiser, which is a great way for the team to raise funds, and hold a Black & Red meet prior to our first Yankee League meet.  Other events that have been brought up as a possibility are: Swim-a-Thon,Otters Go Pink/Seymour Pink 5k, Christmas Parade, Trees of Hope, and an Autism Awareness fundraiser. We are all very excited about kicking off one or all of these ideas!

We will have team bathing suit fittings in October, a team picture in November, and we are working on getting apparel available to you sooner than we have in years past.  Once again if you have any interest in helping to volunteer for things other than meets, please reach out to our board (Aneta Spader  [email protected]  or Leigh Webb  [email protected] ).

The board is working closely with OHS Athletics to figure out our schedule.  We do not have specifics at the moment and we ask for your patience as we work out conflicts between the high school and our practices.  Our daily practice schedule will not change from last year, although we are looking to include more drylands for our upper groups once we get the season kicked off.
