Attention All Swimmers:
Practices for Friday 7-9-2010
You probably have noticed the pool will be closed on Friday due to the Cal State Games water polo tounament.
Because of this there will be no practice for Novice, Junior or Level 2 tomorrow.
Level 3 friday practice is 5:30 - 7:00 a.m.
Level 4-5 6:00 - 7:30 a.m.
No practices on Saturday.
Cal State Games swimmers:
We have 70 swimmers in the Cal state games. The event starts off with a big opening ceremony at Qualcomm stadium. This is a huge event with 9000 athletes from 20 or so different sports parading into the stadium with 20,000 fans. There is an introduction of teams during the parade of athletes, a keynote speaker, a band, and fireworks at the end...They try to do it like the Olympics. Because this event runs until 8:30 or 9:00, and many of the swimmers need to be out at UCSD at 6:30 Saturday morning, I know many of you will opt out of attending this event. If you do go, you / your swimmer can leave after the parade of athletes and skip out before the end (and probably get out of there about 8:30).
If you decide to go we have an informal tailgate party (see attached flyer) planned from 4:00 -5:45. If you don't want to attend the tailgate party, please meet us at section L1 at 6:00pm.
There is a fee for parking (although I haven't th sightest clue what it is). Parents who wish to be in the stands or the ceremony - there is a fee (pretty sure it's $10). You can buy your ticket at the stadium, or (I'm told) purchase it ahead of time at the event registration site (Charlies sports grill - at the Town and country hotel) between 5-9 pm Thursday, and 10am-5:00pm friday.
I (coach dave) will pick up all of the packets for the individual swimmers, and have them available at the tailgate party and at section L1 where the athletes meet.
As I mentioned earlier, we have 70 athletes participating. We still have many volunteer jobs unfilled. I NEED YOUR HELP. I will be busy with administration work at the meet, but we really need those job spots filled. Please check the available jobs and volunteer on line (click the job sign-up button under the cal state games info button).
Meet timeline: Saturday and Sunday a.m. session: arrive at 6:30 for check-in and stretching- meet should be over before noon on Saturday and before 11:00 on Sunday.
Saturday PM session: arrive at 11:00am for check-in and stretching - meet shoud be over before 3:00
Summer League Dual meet #1 swimmers
Our first summer league meet is this Saturday at Frogs one club in Rancho Bernardo. Please arrive by 10:15, and use the side gate at Frogs to enter the pool area.
Please click on the event information link for directions and warmup times. If you have not yet clicked the "attend this event" button, please do so if you are planning to attend. If you have not recieved your login password yet, and are unable to click that button, don't stress, we can get you in the meet. The summer dual meets are very low stress, and do not require us to send in entries to the host team in advance, so you can just show up. It does help the coaches to know in advance that you will be there.
Because we are the host team for the Cal State Games, and it stretches our resources very thin, we will only be able to have one coach (Coach Marion) at the summer league meet. She will have Caps and shirts at the meet (although we came up a little short on shirts. If you do not get your team shirt on Saturday, we will have it for you by Friday the 16th.
