Summer 2021 FAQs

Will there be a 2021 Hallowell Hurricanes summer swim season?

YES! MCSL has put guidelines in place to make our season safe. This document provides you with the latest information. Our coaches and parent volunteers will also hold a virtual Information Session on May 10th at 7:00 pm. The Zoom link is at the bottom of this document; we will also send it out as an email.

How do I register my children?

Online registration will be open Monday, May 3rd . Once registration opens, you will receive an email reminder with a link to registration.

You must be a member of the Hallowell or Lake Hallowell HOA or purchase an outside pool membership to join the swim team. Outside memberships will be available beginning May 3rd on the Hallowell website. https://nabrnetwork.com/site/1715/home.php

EARLY BIRD registration will run until Saturday, May 22nd.

$100 fee per family, plus $85 per swimmer

The cost increases beginning on May 23rd to $110 per family, and $100 per swimmer.

A COVID-19 waiver is required from each athlete during registration and before any athlete participates in any MCSL practice. There will also be HOA pool waivers required.

How long is the swim season?

The swim season begins Tuesday, June 1, 2021. The regular season ends with divisionals on July 24, 2021.

What do I need to know about swim practices?

MCSL requires all swim teams to follow Covid Protocols this summer.

PPE requirements

Ï Coaches will wear masks when entering and exiting any practice area and during all practices.

Ï Swimmers will wear masks when entering and exiting the practice area and shall only be taken off right before aquatic activity begins.

Social Distancing requirements

Ï Athletes, coaches, and any other individual at any practice must maintain 6 feet of distance at all times.

Ï There will be a designated break of at least 5 minutes in between each practice group to ensure that there is appropriate spacing for social distancing and to minimize interactions between practice groups.

Ï Parents/spectators or other third parties will NOT be allowed in the MCSL Practice Area at any time during swim practice unless they are a Coach, Team Representative, or assigned volunteer.

Other Protocols

Ï Athletes must arrive and depart in their swimsuit and will not be permitted to use the locker rooms to change or shower either before or after practice.

Ï Athletes must bring their own water bottle; water fountains will not be in use. Ï Prior to coming to practice, athletes should ensure their temperatures are lower than 100.4 degrees.

Ï Athletes shall be assigned start/finish positions in an assigned lane (not to exceed 6 athletes per lane) to ensure appropriate social distancing while swimming and between sets.

Practice Schedule

Ï Afternoon Practices are held at Hallowell until public school is out:

Tuesday, June 1 - Wednesday, June 16 from 4:15 - 7:15 pm

Ï Morning Practices are held at Hallowell once school it out

Thursday, June 17 - Friday, July 23 from 7:45 - 10:45 am

Ï Evening Practices are held once school is out, for swimmers that are unable to attend morning practices due to summer school or camp:

-Mondays at Hallowell from June 21 - July 19: 5:30 - 7:30 pm.

-Tuesdays and Thursdays at Lake Hallowell from June 17 - July 22 (Pending approval from the HOA. Practice times will be shared ASAP)

Ï Specific practice times by age groups will be determined after Early Bird registration

I really want to volunteer! How can I make that happen?

We are so happy to hear that! We desperately need certified officials. Please consider becoming a certified stroke and turn official, starter, or referee. Good news! All training clinics are online - now is the summer to get your certification!

We also need several other volunteer positions. Sign-up will be available on the team website. Only volunteers working at the meets are permitted inside.

Other Volunteer Requirements

The volunteer point system is suspended for this summer. We will not collect post-dated checks or keep track of points. This is due to Covid restrictions and guidelines:

Ï Family members and other spectators are not permitted to attend MCSL practices or meets. (Only volunteers working at the meets are permitted.)

Ï A significant number of volunteer positions will be reduced (no concessions; only two timers per lane; change in social events, etc…)

Will there be a pre-team this summer?

We hope to have a pre-team and are currently working hard to make that happen in some form. Unfortunately, we do know that there will not be evening pre-team practices this summer.

Will there be swim meets?

YES!

A Meets will run (with Covid Protocols and Guidelines in place) on Saturday Mornings. The schedule will soon be posted to the website.

B Meets - Our B League Reps and coaches are currently meeting to discuss options for B meets.

At the very least, Hallowell will hold intersquad B Meets at Hallowell on Wednesday nights. All meets will follow the MCSL protocols. More information to follow.

What are the Covid Protocols for Meets?

A comprehensive document released by MCSL is available on their website: http://www.mcsl.org/default.aspx

General Protocols

Ï Athletes shall arrive and depart in their suits.

Ï Locker rooms are available for emergency use only (e.g., use of the toilet and sink) but are not available for showering or changing.

Ï All attendees (athletes, coaches, officials, and volunteers) must wear masks to enter the facility and at all times when inside the facility (including the parking lots), with the exception of athletes in the water.

Ï All attendees shall adhere to county requirements for physical distancing, a minimum of 6 feet of distance from all other meet participants, whenever possible.

Ï Traffic should move in one direction on the pool deck so that athletes, coaches, and volunteers do not pass each other in opposite directions.

Ï Only athletes, coaches, meet volunteers, and officials will be permitted on the pool deck or in areas designated for athletes, clerk of course, heat staging and meet administration, including automation.

Ï No food or drink services will be provided inside the facility. Athletes and volunteers may bring their own drinks and/or snacks as long as they are clearly labeled and properly

stored. There shall be no sharing of food or drinks among volunteers or athletes.

Ï No spectators will be permitted in the facility.

Ï Each session will be limited to no more than 136 athletes.

For intra-squad meets or time trials with one team present, each session shall be limited to no more than 136 athletes in total regardless of age or gender.

What about social events?

Where there is a will, there is a way!

We hope to have virtual spirit nights and other socially distant fun this summer. More information to come.

We will have our Team Banquet. Outside, of course! TBA
