Thirteen Aquazot Swimmers Compete at Senior Nationals

 

AquaZot Swimmers Compete At Highest Level!

 

            The AquaZot Swim Team took to the pool in the 2010 National Championships August 3-7 at the William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center in Irvine.  The meet featured Olympians past, present and future vying for a spot representing the US on the Pan-Pacific swim team which will compete August 18-22 in Irvine against national teams from Canada, Australia and Japan.  The PanPacs are considered the off-year version of the Olympic Games and the FINA World Championships. 

 

            The first day of competition featured performances by AZOTs in the Women’s 200 IM and 400 Free and in the Men’s 400 IM.  Andrea Reigel finished the 200 IM in 50th with a time of 2:19.75, while Megan Rankin and Casey Mims finished 73rd and 76th, respectively, with each posting their best times.  In the Women’s 400 Free Megan Rankin took 79th in a time of 4:22.42.  Competing on the Men’s side in the 400 IM, Logan Redondo and Ryunosuke Kikuchi finished 98th and 102nd.

 

            On Wednesday, Samantha Taylor competed in the Women’s 100 Back, finishing in 117th with a 1:06.82.  Megan Rankin swam in her third event of the competition, finishing 87th in the 200 Free, with fellow AZOT Andrea Reigel garnering 103rd position.

 

            In the Women’s 100 Breast on Thursday, Casey Mims posted a 1:12.61 good for 50th, while Sarah Furgatch took 111th.  The 400 IM featured Megan, Casey and Sarah as they placed 80th, 101st and 102nd, respectively.  Thursday night saw the first AZOT points of the competition in the Women’s 4 X 200 Freestyle Relay.  The team of Megan Rankin, Andrea Reigel, Silken Jones and Dayae Choi swam to a 12th place finish with a time of 8:29.05.

 

            Friday on the Women’s side Megan swam the 200 Fly and the 800 Free placing 87th and 54th.  Andrea posted her best time in the 200 Back, with a 47th place finish in 2:18.38.  Logan Redondo swam to a 48th place finish in the 1500 with a 15:57.54.  The AZOT Men got on the scoreboard with a 14th place finish in the 4 X 200 Freestyle Relay on Friday night.  The team of Ryunosuke Kikuchi, Chris Wong, Michael Hauss and Logan Redondo finished in 7:41.76 to garner 6 pts.

 

            The final day of competition on Saturday saw Andrea claim 101st in the 100 Free in 58.66.  The best individual AZOT performance of the competition featured a spot in the Bonus Final for Casey Mims in the Women’s 200 Breast.  Casey finished in 18th place with a time of 2:32.12.  Other AZOT swimmers in the 200 Breast were Sarah Furgatch in 89th, Brooke Wanser in 98th and Kelsey Larson in 100th place.  The final AZOT event of the meet saw Andrea, Casey, Megan and Dayae grab 31st in the Women’s 4 X 100 Medley.

 

            Congratulations to all the AZOT National Team swimmers on their achievements!  Simply qualifying at this level of competition is a tremendous accomplishment.
