Frequently Asked Questions

1. Do I have to be a good swimmer to join the team?

You need to be able to swim 25 yards - the length of most indoor pools.  We will teach you the rest.  If you cannot swim the minimum requirement, the Bradley Bourbonnais Community High School Pool offers a swim lesson program that will teach you how.  You can then move to the team when you are ready.

2. Do I have to try out?

No. We hold swimmer evaluations at the beginning of each season to help us place swimmers into the appropriate training groups or direct them to the lesson progam through the pool.  Any prospective swimmer can join the team at any time during the season as long as they meet the minumum requirment of being able to swim 25 yards.

3. What if I’m involved in other sports?

Most of our swimmers participate and thrive in other sports and activities.  Our practices are usually offered five days a week to allow for more opportunities to participate.  During the summer season, we also offer morning practices to allow swimmers to be able to practice as much as possible.

4. Are meets held every weekend?

No, and it is up to you how many meets you enter based on your schedule.  Usually, swimmers who choose to do USA meets compete one or two weekends a month in age-appropriate settings suited to their competitive level. Along with the weekend USA meets, swimmers can partcipate in dual meets throughout the week that are included with the cost of registration.

5. Is there a lot of travel involved?

Most of our meets are within an hour of our area or hosted at our home pool.  Additionally, however, we do offer the opportunity for the team to travel to meets in other areas.  All trips are optional, but we encourage all swimmers to attend as many meets as possible, as it is a great expiernce for the swimmers.

6. Where are practices held?

All practices are held at the Bradley Bourbonnais Community Pool located at Bradley Bourbonnais Community High School.

7. Can I join anytime?

Yes, you may join the team any time throughout the year during the season that is in session.  We have two seasons: short course yard winter season that usually runs from September through Febuary and a summer season that runs April through July.

8. Do the boys have to wear “speedos”?

No, it is not required.  However, they are still recommended, and most boys opt for the knee-length “jammer” speedo suit.

9. What is the cost?

The cost varies based on certain elements.  All cost information can be found on the Main Page under the current season information tab.  Summer season is shorter and cheaper.  The registaration process and cost will change as each season begins.  If you have more quesitons on cost, feel free to contact the team or the head coach, and we would be happy to help you figure out the cost for your swimmer.

10.  Who does the coaching and what are their certifications?

We have a staff of professional, experienced coaches who are passionate about what they do.  They are all certified through USA Swimming and are required to maintain CPR, Coaches Safety & First Aid, and many other coaching certifications as well.
