Welcome to PHAST 2017-2018 Swimmers at Port Hawkesbury!

On behalf of the Port Hawkesbury executive and Coach Chris Sturmy, we would like to extend our warmest welcome to your swimmer.ý We are pleased that your child has become a member of the team and we hope that he or she will enjoy being a PHAST swimmer. We know that you are brand new to PHAST, and would like to help you to feel as welcome as possible.ý Many new swimmers and parents are not sure what to expect at their first practice.

Introductory Information

PHAST is run by 2 Executive groups, one in Antigonish and one in Port Hawkesbury.  The Executive consists of the positions listed on the "Coaches" link:

Communication for the swim team is conducted mainly via e-mail so please ensure that your e-mail is accurate on your registration form.

Parent swim meetings are held approximately every 6 weeks at SAERC and notification of the meetings are sent out via e-mail.  We encourage all parents to attend the meetings to keep current with swim team fund raising, activities and events. 7.5 credits are issued for attending meetings.
Introductions and information regarding the team and how it is operated is conducted at the beginning of each season during registration and at the first swim meeting.  For all parents who have swimmers joining later in the swim season and missed these introductions, please introduce yourself at your first swim meeting.  If you have any questions or concerns, they can be brought up after the meeting with any members of the Executive.

For starters, you will need a swim suit, goggles and a towel.

Boys may start out wearing any swim trunks, but will eventually need to switch to a competitive swim suit called jammers. Girls should wear a one piece suit of any kind. Both boys and girls should wear a black suit, or if possible, an official team suit. There will be an opportunity to order team suits in September, and again in the early spring. At the practice, the swimmers will be allowed on the pool deck once the coaches have arrived.

They should be changed and ready to swim for 3:15pm. They should have a light snack prior to swimming, and bring a bottle of water.

The swimmers should be aware that the higher level swimmers have a longer practice, so they will be getting out of the water while others will remain swimming. During the practice, parents are not allowed on deck due to insurance reasons.

Please feel free to watch your swimmers from the bleachers, or the seating area by the library. You will be receiving email notification about the first parent meeting where we will review more information about practices and competitive meets.

We would like to help you to know what to expect at a meet, to make the experience as positive as possible for you and your swimmer. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns at any time.

Sincerely,

PHAST Executive
