Adam Nelsen

Adam began his swimming career with the Little Rock Racquet Club Dolphins under the guidance of Coach Paul Blair at the age of 4. He then swam for a short period of time with Central Arkansas Swim Team until he returned to the Dolphins at the age of 8. The following year, he swam in his first Central Zone meet. Nelsen qualified for Zones an additional 5 times, securing individual wins in multiple events and relays. He won numerous high point awards throughout his swimming career including four awards at age group championships. In addition, Adam was the recipient of the Gary Schultz Memorial Award in both 1990 and 1991. He held more than a dozen state and association records in at least 9 different events and relays. Between 1990 and 1993, Adam was a Region 8 qualifier. Known for his versatility in all of the strokes, he qualified in ten events and eventually became the Regional Champion in 200 IM. Adam qualified in 8 different events in each season for Junior Nationals in 1992 and 1993. He swam backstroke on the medley relay at Nationals at the age of 17. He was All State in high school swimming his Junior and Senior years. As team captain, he led Hall High School to a runner up state championship in 1993 with only five eligible swimmers. Nelsen was high school state champion in 200 IM and 100 Breast his junior and senior years. In 1993, Adam was listed in Who’s Who in high school swimming and earned the honor of Academic All American.
