FAQ’S SUMMIT AREA YMCA SWIMMING

WHAT ARE THE WATER PRACTICE TIMES FOR THE ’18 – ’19 SEASON?

HOW MANY TEAMS DOES SUMMIT HAVE?

We have 4 Dual Meet teams – 2 girls teams and 2 boys teams. However, for all of our Invitational and Championship meets, we are ONE TEAM.

WHY IS OUR SWIMMER’S AGE AS OF 12/ 01 /18??

YMCA meets age everyone up to the 12/1 date. Therefore, even if your swimmer is 8 now, if their birthday is before 12/ 1 they will be swimming as a 9-year-old for the season.

If they turn 9 on 12/2 or after, they will be an 8-year-old for the entire season – even in January and February!

HOW LONG DOES THE SEASON LAST?

September 11th  is the start date for practice. We run through the end of February. There are some athletes that continue on through March based on their qualifications for Championship level meets.

HOW MANY MEETS WILL I GO TO WITH MY SWIMMER?   

Each dual meet team has 5 meets, ~home or away. All take place on Saturdays from late October through late January. A schedule will be provided with times. Home meets are 12:45 and 2:45 pm. They last about 2 ½ hours. Away dual meets could be morning or afternoon on Saturdays.

We also have Championship meets in February that we require our swimmers to attend. We also offer some Invitational meets throughout the season so swimmers can gain experience from more competition. The Invitational meets are optional.

HOW MANY PRACTICES DOES MY SWIMMER HAVE TO ATTEND?

For our younger age groups, there is no requirement for practice time. However, the more your swimmer is at practice, the more they will learn. It may become difficult for them to keep up if they do not attend practice regularly. We will progress during the season to harder practices and longer distances.

Our older athletes do have requirements if they want to attend Championship meets. These requirements will be communicated in September.

HOW WILL I KNOW IF MY SWIMMER MADE THE TEAM?

The names of the swimmers who made the team will be posted on our website. You will also receive a welcome email. Please make sure the email on your tryout card is legible and accurate. We will be communicating with you via email on a continuing basis.

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO IN ORDER FOR MY SWIMMER TO BEGIN PRACTICE?

Payments/ Membership ~

A deposit of $100 must be made by July 31st in order to hold your swimmer's place on the team. At this time, you must also sign up your swimmer to be a member of the Summit YMCA though March of 2019.

Balance payments MUST be made to the Front Desk or over the phone before your swimmer will be allowed to participate in practice. We will accept balance payments until 9/09/18.  Any payment received after that date will be charged a late fee.

Registration ~

Online registration must be completed for your swimmer before they attend practice. Details will be communicated and you will register your children online when you pay your deposit. Again, please make sure we have a legible and accurate email address for communication.

WHAT IF MY SWIMMER DOES NOT MAKE THE TEAM? 

We would love to accommodate everyone! We just don’t have the pool space. Therefore, if your child does not make the team, the YMCA has many swim program opportunities for your athlete.
