November 27, 2019 Update

We want to say thank you to all of the families for all you do for Elmbrook.  It can be tough getting your kids to so many activities at all different times and we appreciate that you make swim practice and our swim club a priority in your children’s lives.

Earlier today Coach Brent sent a reminder regarding drop-off and pick-up expectations.  Please adhere to them and encourage your swimmers to be quick in the locker rooms.  Part of being a good team member is being respectful to other swimmers and coaches.  As Coach Brent stated “If your athlete spends more than 15 minutes in the locker room or is picked up later than 15 minutes following practice you are negatively impacting our staff.”

EBSC Swim-A-Long:

The Swim-A-Long fundraiser has begun.  Every family is required to raise a minimum amount of money.  You can find information regarding this event HERE.

Turkey Relays:

We had 95 swimmers attend Turkey Relays today!!!  That is the best turnout I can remember.  I hope everyone had a great time meeting new teammates and swimming some fun relays!

Happy Thanksgiving and safe travels!

Meet Information - HERE

Timelines:

AM - HERE

First Meet Tips:

1) Keep an eye on your emails/the Gator Blast for arrival times, timelines, and often times the heat sheets. Some meets decide to sell paper heat sheets at the meet, other teams will post the heat sheets online for you to print beforehand.

2) Swimmers should arrive at the meet at least 15 minutes before warm-ups. I will always put the arrival time that I expect in my Gator Blast the week of the meet. The day of, if you are unable to make it by this time (traffic, other commitment before, illness, etc) this needs to be communicated to me ASAP via text/email. If you know prior to the day of the meet that you are unable to keep your commitment, please send me an email/text as soon as you know!

3) Swimmers should come with a team suit, team apparel (extra clothes) swim cap, 2 pairs of goggles, towel, and healthy snacks/water. It is often cold on the deck for swimmers and I would recommend clothes to wear while wet and dry clothes to change into after the meet.

4) Write your child's event numbers on their arm in pen or sharpie. If the heat sheets are available online the night before, they should come with their heats and lanes written on their arm as well. Example:

E   H     L

2     1       6     50 free

6     2       5      50 back

5) Swimmers should talk to their coach before AND after each race! Crucial for improvement and learning!

6) Swimmers sit with their teammates. Parents sit with other parents! Encourage your child to spend the majority of their time with the team. They can obviously come chat with you after talking to their coach after their race! But should not be in the stands with you. Get to know other EBSC parents! It definitely makes it more fun!

8) Disqualifications – disqualifications are very normal for this age group. As I explained during the parent meeting, we have barely worked on breaststroke and have not introduced butterfly at all. As such, we have not expectation that athletes be 100% proficient in those strokes yet. When we receive the disqualification report, we will cover that with your athlete.

Relays: If an athlete doesn’t show up for warm up, and we do not receive notification via email, text, or phone regarding the absence, the athlete will be removed from all relays and may be liable for paying for the entire relay if we cannot find an alternate athlete.

October 5, 2019 Update

Parent Meeting/Meet Preparation Session:

  • Friday, October 11 at Brookfield Central

We will host a parent meeting on October 11 during the regularly scheduled practice. We will cover all of the questions regarding meets and other aspects of the club you may have. Simultaneously, one of the team’s volunteer officials will come in and explain to the athletes how a meet runs.

September 19, 2019 Update

Important Information

1.    Welcome to the GATOR BLAST!

a.    This is the primary source of communication each week. I will always email it out when it’s posted. I usually do it by Thursday, but just look for it in your inbox.

b.    Communication is KEY. I can’t fix what I don’t know about. Don’t be shy!

2.   Practice this week

a.    Each week we usually focus on a single stroke. At the beginning of the season we start off with the basic skills. Even returning swimmers, who know the skills, benefit from a refresher. I believe that learning the basics early in life will help them as they progress in future groups. You will see a lot of streamline, kicking, and working on freestyle and backstroke.

b.    Novice 1 is jumping right into sets this week. We are increasing overall volume and starting to challenge the swimmer aerobically.

c.    Novice 2 will slowly transition into sets, but will be much more skill focused for at least the first month.

3.   Parent Meeting

a.    Please look for details regarding a parent meeting sometime before the first meet where we will cover the information pertaining to meet preparation.
