Team Update Wed Dec 30, 2020

NAAC Families & Swimmers –

Hope you are all having an enjoyable Holiday Season, and we are glad to be back in the water!  Notes below for the coming month, and please keep in mind that all plans are tentative and subject to change while there are still so many unknowns as far as any added restrictions, closures, etc.  We will keep you posted on any and every thing as we find out, and for now please continue to check the practice calendar regularly to be sure you have the correct practice times per group/s!

In this Update…

  • Practices
  • Meets
  • Team Fees
  • Lost & Found
  • Private Lessons

Practices

All Jan practices as currently planned are now noted on our homepage Team Google Calendar.  There will still be some Jan changes, with NAMS Meets to add once confirmed (and practices to adjust), and a possible NAAC AG Meet later this month (notes below).

We wrap up our Winter Break scheduling this weekend and roll into more regular practice schedules starting this coming Monday, Jan 4th.  We will add Senior Lifting and possibly AG dryland soon if our scheduling parameters allow, and we will keep everyone posted ahead of time as best we can if/when adding or changing practice schedules.

For Jan AM weekday practices we will move to Elite Tues AM, NAHS Wed AM, and Cyclone Thurs AM.  Other changes are mostly smaller, and again – PLEASE check the Team Calendar regularly!

Please also remind your swimmers to continue to attack all of their opportunities and to make the most of the season, whatever 2021 has in store for us!

Meets

We are working on a HOME Penguin Plunge make-up meet for after the MS season wraps up, perhaps on Sunday Jan 24, and we will keep you posted once we have it fully planned and a Meet Sanction in process.

We are still planning on hosting our scheduled HOME Valentines Classic on Sunday Feb 7, and it is possible that this meet may move to an extended format over Sat Feb 6 and Sun Feb 7, and again – we will keep you posted once planning is set and a Meet Sanction is in process.

It is possible NAHS will host a post-season meet for the HS Swim Season, and we will get word out to all as soon as we have anything confirmed.  This is just in the discussion phase, and may or may not happen, but just want everyone to be aware for late Jan and/or early Feb schedule adjustment possibilities.

We do not yet have a finalized commitment from Ohio Swimming on how the potential Regional, JO and Barbara Kay meets might proceed, and we will keep you all posted as we receive confirmed info.

Similarly, for Senior Group post-HS season programming, we are planning on attending the NCSA Jr National Meet in Orlando in March as a first choice, Sectionals in Indy in March as a second choice, and we will do our best to find some LCM meets post HS season to try and get some additional Olympic Qualifying times for our swimmers!

Current NAAC Meet Schedule is updated for the Winter Season HERE, and again please note that all scheduling is tentative and open to adjustment per situational context.

Team Fees

We resume regularly scheduled Team Fees beginning this week, and monthly fees for those on a monthly plan will be charged on Jan 1st.  Just a reminder to be sure everyone is aware now that we are scheduled to be back to a more regular practice situation.

Lost & Found

We have a full laundry basket of water bottles by the equipment room, as well as caps and goggles that we’ve collected unclaimed from the deck at the end of practices so far this season.  If your swimmer is missing any items please have them check by the equipment room and/or ask a Coach.  We will keep caps & goggles for extra supplies if swimmers might need them, and we will begin removing (donating and/or trashing) unclaimed water bottles next week, just FYI.

Private Lessons

We may have Mon evening private Lessons available beginning Mon Jan 11th, and we will keep you posted on Coaches available per evening if we are able to offer.  Scheduling for potential Private Lessons will be directly through the Coaches available, at $40 per 30 min session, one swimmer max, with more info out to all of you as we move into the New Year.

Looking forward to a great January of training, hopefully some added competition opportunities later in Jan, Feb and March, and please have a safe & Happy New Year!!

Thanks – John C & the NAAC Coaches

Team Update Sunday Dec 20, 2020

NAAC Families and Swimmers –

GOOD NEWS!  We are back in the pool with full scheduling across NAAC beginning Dec 21st!

Since we are rolling into Winter Break, many groups haven’t been in the water for a while, and NA is still in virtual classes tomorrow and Tues - there are a lot of practice differences per group over the next 2 weeks.  Too many practices and changes to list out here, so PLEASE check and double check the Team Calendar for your group’s practices regularly.  Lead Coaches will be in touch soon as well!

The Team Google Calendar is fully updated as of today, and we will now return to our general Covid protocols – some general reminders…

  • Arrive 10-15 minutes early to each practice, in your swimsuit and with a face covering.
  • Get ready in the stands so that we can transition between groups quickly.
  • Wait for the outgoing group to be out of the pool and headed towards their side of the stands before entering the deck.
  • Enter and exit the pool deck from your group’s side of the stands, grab your swim bag and head to your side of the pool.
  • Attack every practice opportunity!  #grateful
  • When finishing practice, hang your swim bag and enter the stands on the same side as your group’s bags.
  • You may exit via the lobby or the locker rooms, face coverings on after practice, and you may change clothes in the locker rooms before leaving only in small groups (still no showering allowed).

PLEASE refer to all of our Quaran-Train info for most of your dryland until we are cleared for adding dryland practices at the pool.  It scales with you, with increasing efforts per time since much of it is time-based.  Plan your work and work your plan.  We do have some dryland ideas set up per group, and we will keep Elite & Cyclone posted about lifting.  If you have access to and would like to do dryland (AG) or lift (SR) more or differently than Quaran-Train on your own, please keep it simple.

ALSO…

A GREAT meet last weekend for those NAAC Swimmers competing at the 18&U Ohio Championship Meet!  Overall we swam very well, particularly with all context considered (limited practice availability, very few event specific practices, no team lifting for the past 4 weeks, etc).  Context matters when evaluating performances, and again – with all context considered – we performed very well overall!

19 new Team Records, and lots of event wins!  Full Ohio 18&U Meet results are posted HERE, and full Jr National results from all LSC’s over the country are posted HERE.  Some great performances AND room for improvement from all – congrats to all of our swimmers, and a BIG CONGRATS to our all 5 of our NAAC Ohio Event Champions across 10 events, and to Spencer Aurnou-Rhees for breaking 5 Team Records, and to Martina Peroni for breaking 4 Team Records & for placing in the Top 15 Nationally and scoring team points at Virtual Jr Nats in the 200 Butterfly and 400 IM as noted below!!

Team Update Fri Dec 4, 2020

NAAC Families & Swimmers –

Hope that you all had a great Thanksgiving weekend, and wish we could see you all more often at NAAC practices now – though we are busy planning to see you soon!  We are still hopeful that we will be back to a more regular practice schedule soon, with some slight changes noted below, and we will keep you posted on any further updates We should know more by at least the end of next week or next weekend.

In speaking of practices, we did remove all Dec group fees for Hurricane-Breaker, and charged only a percentage of group fees this Dec for Elite (35%), Cyclone (25%) and Typhoon (15%) since we are currently unable to offer much more in the way of practice time Nov 20-Dec 17.  To complete a single one hour NAHS practice it now takes 6 hours, and to complete a single NAMS practice it takes 2-3 hours, and the school teams have priority.  This is also why we moved NAHS and NAMS Team NAAC swimmers to their school practices and did not charge these swimmers December NAAC group fees – so that they could get more pool time through the school AND so we could get more NAAC time allotted to our non-NA Families with our current POD rules.  More info on practices and some upcoming changes in the practice info below.

We want to be sure you are all aware that NAAC can adjust to the loss of income this month, and to note that this pause is not a loss of income OR practice time that we take lightly. We want more than anything to have all of our swimmers practicing with us not only to become better swimmers and better athletes, but also to provide some much needed normalcy for all.  Please know that we will get all of our groups back on track and in the water swimming with us again as soon as we can!

PRACTICES

We do have some practice updates, and all is listed on our Team Calendar now.  The school will review the current protocols on or around Dec 11, and we should know more for Dec 19 forward after their reviewGood news is that NAMS will combine to 2 pods, and NAHS will move to B/G team practices starting Dec 11th, so hopefully we are on track for a Dec 19th restart to NAAC practices.

Please understand that NAAC’s access to and use of the pool and weight room facilities are dictated by the NAPLS Admin decisions. While we have and will continue to strongly advocate on behalf of our NAAC swimmers for full access, and we have no control over the limitations or restrictions that are ultimately placed on the use of these facilities and schedule as best we can to make use of the time that we do have.

MEETS

We actually DO have a meet on the schedule next weekend for the USA 18 & Under Championships at Miami of Ohio!  This meet has regional LSC locations and replaces what would usually be the USA Winter Junior National SCY Championship Meet.  NAAC has 22 qualifiers registered to compete next weekend, Dec 11-13, and we plan on taking full advantage of the opportunities we have to the best of our abilities!  We will get more info out to the upper groups today and more info out to the entire Team once plans are fully set next week.

HOLIDAY REMINDERS & A NOTE

As we move through the Winter Holiday Season we want to be #grateful for all that we have with our NAAC Team and Families, and for sure to #havecourage moving forward.  One of our Team Families, The Snyders (Parents - Derrill & TJ; Kids - Logan, Avery & Gavin), have some extra ongoing challenges with Avery's leukemia diagnosis this fall, and please read the attached note to see how you can offer your support.

Thanks – John C & the NAAC Coaches

Team Update Sun Nov 22, 2020

NAAC Families & Swimmers –

Just a brief update today.

We have updated our practice schedule as there was an error in programming, pushing all NAAC Sunday practices 30 minutes later.  Adjusted as follows and correct on our current Team Calendar.

UPDATED NAAC PRACTICE SCHEDULE as of SUNDAY NOV 22

  • Elite                Mon 5:30-6:30am, Wed 5:30-6:30am, Wed 6:30-7:15pm, Sat 11:45-1pm
  • Cyclone A      Tues 5:30-6:30am, Wed 8:30-9:15pm, Sun 11am-12:15pm
  • Cyclone B      Wed 7:30-8:15pm, Thurs 5:30-6:30am, Sun 12:30-1:45pm
  • Typhoon A     Sun 2-3pm
  • Typhoon B     Sun 3:15-4:15pm
  • Typhoon C     Sun 4:30-5:30pm
  • Typhoon D     Sun 5:45-6:45pm

We have some updated protocols for our pod requirements as well, all posted online HERE.  Please review as entry and exit will be slightly different, and swimmers must arrive to practices ready to attack each workout – fully ready to go, with no wasted time once they are in the pool area, all prepared to give full efforts for the entirety of every practice.  Please read and review with your Typhoon, Cyclone or Elite swimmer.

Lead Coaches across groups will be sending some workouts within the next couple of days for swimmers that can find pool time on their own.

We will do our best to get through this reduced training period, and while we understand that this is less than ideal, we hope to come out on the other side grateful and willing to attack all opportunities!

Thanks – John C & the NAAC Coaches

Team Update Sat Nov 21, 2020

NAAC Families & Swimmers –

Thanks for the many positive notes over the last couple of days regarding our attempts to keep our swimmers engaged and in the water as best we can.  I would also like to reassure all Team Families that have texted, emailed and called our Coaches and/or Staff with concerns and suggestions that we are doing all that we are able to provide water time for our NAAC swimmers.  Many area schools have slowed or stopped Winter practices, many pools remain at a very limited usage level, and unfortunately we have not been able to secure any pool space outside of our NAHS home.

We are again truly sorry that we had another peak meet pulled away from our team (similar to this past spring), this meet with our 13 & over C-19 entrants, and as always we will continue to move forward as best we can, and hope to be back at our regular practice schedule as soon as we have pool availability.  We are grateful we did get the chance to swim fast, timing system in, and suited up Thursday night at both Elite & Cyclone practices, and I will post those times as soon as we have all notes and automatic times corroborated – we had a lot of very fast swimming Thursday evening!

All said, we have a tentative practice set up noted below.  Unfortunately NA Schools has extended their reduced numbers allowed per practice from Dec 1 out to Dec 17, the same as their non-compete date deadline is set at currently.  This allows for very little time for NAAC, and so we have made the best adjustments we can with the time we have been given to work with, and in coordination with NA Schools, our NAAC Coaches and the NAAC Board.  We have created practices based upon what we can control at our own facility, with our own restrictions, and in light of so many other moving parts at schools & facilities outside of our current NA schools situation.  We promise to get all of our swimmers back in the water as soon as we can, and we apologize that we are not able to provide practice for all groups, and only provide a very limited amount of practice for our upper groups.

NA Schools are offering only Winter Sport activities, with only 10 athletes allowed per “pod” and required transition time between groups.  NAAC practices will need to follow this system of 10 per “pod” and required transition periods between groups as well – just to provide context for our planning below.  Lead Coaches of practicing groups will let swimmers know of assigned pod groups later today or tomorrow, and we are not allowed to change our pod make-ups per current restrictions (ie no make up practices or practice “trades” by swimmers, no switching groups).  Although none of our schedule is ideal, we are glad that we are able to offer some water time to our NAAC upper groups, particularly in light of so many other HS programs completely shutting down.  No NAAC practices this Wed, Thurs or Fri due to Thanksgiving break and reduced pool hours.  We will update our Team Calendar by tomorrow, Sunday Nov 22, to reflect all that’s below with our curremly planned NAAC practices through Dec 17.

UPDATED SUNDAY NOV 22

Elite                Mon 5:30-6:30am, Wed 5:30-6:30am, Wed 6:30-7:15pm, Sat 11:45-1pm

Cyclone A      Tues 5:30-6:30am, Wed 8:30-9:15pm, Sun 11am-12:15pm

Cyclone B       Wed 7:30-8:15pm, Thurs 5:30-6:30am, Sun 12:30-1:45pm

Typhoon A     Sun 2-3pm

Typhoon B     Sun 3:15-4:15pm

Typhoon C     Sun 4:30-5:30pm

Typhoon D     Sun 5:45-6:45pm

Please note that these NAAC practices are all for non-NA swimmers.  We are extremely limited in our time available, and both NAHS and NAMS have their own practices planned that NAAC participating swimmers should be attending.

In line with all noted here, we will be canceling December Group Fees for Hurricane, Tsunami, Wave, Ripple & Breaker.  Elite & Cyclone will have 35% (Elite) and 25% (Cyclone) monthly fees for Dec, and Typhoon will have 15% monthly fees for Dec, while NA HS & MS swimmers of all of these groups will have December fees cancelled with no NAAC practice availability during this time.  We will unfortunately have to suspend our College group plans until after Dec 17, and we will let those College swimmers know if that might change.  And – we hope to have EVERYONE back in the water at more regular scheduling after Dec 17 We can not promise this, but it is something we will strive towards for ALL of our swimmers.

The NA Pool will be open for mesh bag pick-up tomorrow, Sunday Nov 22, from 1-3pm for any swimmers that might have or be able to find a pool available and/or simply want to have their swim equipment with them to be prepared.

And PLEASE have your swimmer remain active!  We still have all of our Quaran-Train workout info posted to our website HERE, and Lead Coaches will be sending emails with some other ideas.  I will post some challenge workouts to Insta @ swimstrongnaac, and if your swimmer can find water time somewhere please ask your Lead Coach for some basic workouts to follow.  If in doubt, a 20 min walk would always be better than nothing.

As in yesterday’s email… The announcement by Franklin County Board of Health this week has prompted different school districts and different facilities to respond in a variety of ways, which we know will add more details to planning, and much will likely remain fluid over the next month.  Lead Coaches will have general emails out soon – please wait to ask Lead Coaches about practices, pods or other items until we have a chance to plan appropriately.  Our NAAC Calendar has been cleared and will be updated up to Dec 17 soon, and we will do our best to integrate NAAC practices into whatever opportunities we have as best we can.  We will post NAAC practices to our Team Calendar by tomorrow, and we promise to keep you all posted on any further changes.

#Grateful that the summer and fall have gone so well for us up to this point – we had almost 6 good months of training and being a TEAM together, and please #havecourage that we will be able to pick up where we left off as soon as we’re able.

#NAACSTRONG

Thanks – John C, the NAAC Coaches & the NAAC Board

Team Update Oct 23, 2020

NAAC Families & Swimmers –

BIG THANKS again to all for helping make our IMX meet happen!  The meet ran smoothly, our protocols worked well, and we now (finally) have some new official times for our swimmers – the first official times since Feb/Mar…!  Full Meet Results are on our 2020-21 Meet Schedule & Results page HERE.  Great job to all of our NAAC Swimmers on getting back to COMPETING (Learn, Have Fun & Compete!).  We hope to be able to host our Sr Meet in Nov and our Penguin Plunge in Dec as on our Meet Schedule, with more info on both meets as we move forward.

A note about potential quarantine periods…  NA has many kids currently in quarantine across the MS & HS, and we clarified our position on school-mandated quarantines in our updated Protocols HERE today (please scroll down the webpage for test, quarantine & travel protocols).  We have swimmers from multiple school districts, and even different Counties, as part of our NAAC Family and so we ask that all swimmers defer to their school protocols if they are asked to quarantine due to a Covid exposure.  Our new quarantine protocol follows here, and as always please do not send swimmer/s with any symptoms of illness to any practice!

  1. Possible Quarantine outside of NAAC:  If any NAAC participant is quarantined from school (or work), they are then also quarantined from NAAC for the same time period requested of their school (or work), even if exhibiting no symptoms, and even if a negative Covid test result. Others within the household are not quarantined unless the initially quarantined individual(s) begin exhibiting symptoms, at which time the all members of the household should quarantine.

Practices

We are rolling right along with Fall practices, and HS Swim Season is scheduled to begin next week on Oct 30, with MS Swim Season scheduled to begin the following week on Nov 4.  The addition of these practices to the pool schedule will alter some of our current scheduling and all adjustments are noted on our Team Calendar.  Please check your swimmer’s group practice schedule each week to be sure you have the correct time of practice per day!

We have several practice changes this coming week, changes noted below, and again PLEASE check the Team Calendar regularly!!  Today through Sunday are as usually scheduled, and please be aware that there could be Thunderstorms this evening – if practices are delayed or cancelled on short notice for any reason (weather or otherwise) we will note on the Team Calendar, and send a Team Message via email and text.

  • 10-26 Mon      Elite Lifting 6:15-7pm
  • 10-28 Wed      Last pre-Season practice

                                  Elite Lifting 6:30-7:15pm

Wave 10:30-11:30am (make up from Thurs 10/29)

And beginning Sunday November 1st we will use the Stadium Entry & Exit for the Winter season The lobby will remain open, and if swimmers arrive early we ask that they wait for the pool doors to open socially distanced and with a face covering.  We will continue with the same protocol of pool entry doors open 20 min before the start of practice, closing 5 min before the start of practice, and then re-opening for entry after the previous group has all exited the building.  Exit will be through the lobby/stadium entrance as well.  Entry protocols posted HERE will be updated Sat Oct 30 to reflect the above.

Team Info

We’ve handed out most of our swimmer Team Shirts and Team Latex Caps.  Please have your swimmer ask their Lead Coach if they have yet to receive theirs.  Silicone caps that were ordered per family will be distributed as soon as we receive the order from the manufacturer!

Please review the Team Season Info that was emailed a couple of weeks ago, posted HERE, if you have yet to do so.

As well, if you have yet to email your acknowledgement & release forms for the season, please copy, paste and e-sign an email to you Lead Coach as requested in your GROUP UPDATE.  The acknowledgement & release were sent out in your Group Updates, and if you have already completed the above you are set.  If you have NOT YET COMPLETED this, we need to get all completed ASAP, and we will begin holding swimmers out of practice for uncompleted forms.  Please contact your Lead Coach if you need assistance.

Private Lessons

We plan on beginning private lessons on Monday Nov 9th, with 30 min sessions, one swimmer per coach, from 8:15-8:45pm and 8:45-9:15pm, $40 cash due to the coach at the start of the session.  These will be on select Monday evenings, and we’ll have more details out along with Coaches available to contact for privates in the next Team Update.

Thanks – John C and the NAAC Coaches

Team Update Sept 8, 2020

NAAC Families & Swimmers –

It was GREAT to be back at the NAHS pool with our Sr Groups this past week!  Everything went well for our start to the 2020-21 season and we are looking forward to an equally great start for all of our NAAC Groups this coming week!!  Hope you all have a great Labor Day Holiday!!

In this Update…

  • Practices
  • Meets
  • Updated Protocols
  • Team and Group Meetings
  • Swimsuits, Equipment & Apparel

Practices

Please ALWAYS check the Team Calendar each week!  Our Team Calendar is your go-to resource for practice times each week, and if we have any late practice changes (within 7 days) we will email and text that info – which is another reason to have your cell number listed for your SMS # in your Team Account.

And speaking of our Team (Google) Calendar posted to our homepage, we have NO GROUP OVERLAPS at practices per direction from NAHS this year, so some of our practice times per group are slightly different than posted to our original 2020-21 Group Info.  The Team Calendar IS CORRECT per group as of now, and if we might be able to include some added on-deck dryland and/or meeting times with group overlaps as we had originally planned we will let you know well in advance.  Most changes are very slight per group, and actual water time is very similar to original plans, and we are very #grateful to be able to swim all considered so far this year…!  Again, the Team Calendar IS CORRECT.

General Upcoming Practice Schedule Notes.  For specific group times please see the Team Calendar!

  • Tues Sept 8 – All NAAC AG Programming begins as scheduled @ NAHS per group
  • Wed Sept 9 – Lifting begins for Sr Groups
  • Tues Sept 22 – Weekday AM practices begin for Sr Groups

Age Group dryland practices will likely begin at the start of October +/-.  We will be doing dryland during some of our regular swim practices throughout the season as well, with pull-up bars, TRX, bands, ab rollers, etc all available on the pool deck, and will keep you all posted on separate dryland practices as we move forward.

Meets

Ohio Swimming cancelled all summer 2020 meets, and as of now will approve intra-squad and/or virtual meets only through Dec 31, 2020.  USA and Ohio Swimming may begin to relax their standards on meet sanctions, and we will keep everyone posted if we might be able to host or attend a dual meet or similar anytime prior to Dec 31.

We will put the touch pads in and have the timing system running at some practices this fall, so that our swimmers can race and see where they stand.  These will be “unofficial” times, yet they will be accurate times.  If we get a chance we may also do some unsanctioned virtual competitions/races with other club teams, and we will get details out as our plans progress.  We mention all of this so that you all know that your swimmers will get a chance to compete & race this fall and winter, whether official times or not, and that all swimmers should be ready to race when any opportunity presents itself!

So far we have the following HOME MEETS sanctioned (times count) prior to Dec 31, with only NAAC attending as of now.  US Open and Winter Jr Championships have yet to announce fully updated meet details.

Oct 10 & 11    Sat & Sun        NAAC IMX Meet                                         Tsunami-Elite

Nov 21 & 22  Sat & Sun        NAAC C-19 Senior Championships           Cyclone, Elite & College

                                                *Prelim/Final Peak Meet!

Dec 5 & 6        Sat & Sun        NAAC Penguin Plunge                                Breaker-Typhoon

Dec 2-5           Wed-Sat          US Open Championships                                Qualifiers

                                                Location & details TBA

Dec 9-12         Wed-Sat          Winter Jr Championships                                Qualifiers

                                                Location & details TBA

With the Sports Order by the State of Ohio released Wed 8-20-20, there will be pretty limited spectator seating as of now, and as we’ve seen so often this spring & summer - that might change.  We’ll keep everyone posted on possibilities as meet dates approach.

Updated Protocols

Please review the general protocols for NAHS pool use noted below with your swimmer/s.  We will post more detailed, updated protocols soon, and our most recently updated protocols are linked HERE.

  • Entrance will be through the courtyard shallow end doors (East courtyard doors).
  • Swimmers must arrive ON TIME & ready to swim – no locker room use.
  • No parents allowed in the building.
  • Exterior entry doors will generally be open only 20 min to 5min before the start of each practice unless you are the first group scheduled (ex 6pm practice, doors open 5:40-5:55pm).  This is per NA requirements to maintain appropriate distancing between groups.
  • Late arrivals will generally not be allowed unless cleared prior to a given practice by the Lead Coach in light of the above protocols.
  • Bleachers will be for swimmer’s bags, gold or maroon side per given practice.
  • Swimmers must arrive with face coverings/masks on until they are prepared to leave the bleachers for practice.
  • Swimmers will enter the deck from the same side of the bleachers their bags are placed (East or West), and once practices are through will exit from the West end of the bleachers and exit the building with face covering/mask from the deep end courtyard doors (West courtyard doors).
  • Swimmers will need all equipment from their Equipment Lists per group ( HERE).
  • Swim equipment bags may be left on hooks per assigned groups, and should be grabbed once on deck and ready for practice, and hung on assigned hook space as the group completes practice.
  • Restroom use is one swimmer at a time.
  • Swim practices will be distanced (swimmers per lane, spaced apart); dryland spaced as well.
  • Swimmers will be dismissed from the water as a group, should hang their equipment bags quickly, and proceed to their group’s side of the bleachers per that practice.
  • Swimmers should bring comfortable clothes to put on over their swim suits to leave practice – again, no locker room use.
  • We will rehearse and remind all swimmers about group protocols as we move through the start of the season – no worries.

The above protocols are very similar to our Links protocols this summer, and Coaches will give reminders, reminders, reminders to follow protocols rather than yell or get angry.  And – swimmers should follow all of our protocols...!  We will update posted Swimmer Protocols to reflect the above by or before Tues Sept 8 - Updated NOW HERE!

Team and Group Meetings

With all of the current restrictions we will post both information and/or a video for our annual meetings before the end of September (general Team Meeting) or early Oct (specific Group Meetings).  This way you can watch, read and/or print a copy for the season info.  We will host brief Zoom Meetings per group after the info is posted so that we can answer any questions, and we will get any additional season info out via email in the same time frames.

If you have any questions for your Lead Coach or Head Coach John C prior to the start of the season or prior to any of these video/info posts or Zoom meetings, please send them an email.  Coaches bio’s, info and email addresses are posted HERE.

Please also note, similar to our message as we returned to practice this past June…

By attending NAAC practices, swimming and/or dryland/lifting, your swimmer is voluntarily participating.  NAAC has reviewed all guidelines to create our Return to Practice protocols.  That being said, although we will be taking preventative measures to reduce the spread of Covid-19, we cannot guarantee the health and safety of our members.  Returning to practice should, and must be, YOUR choice and what is in the best interest of YOUR family.  Please review our protocols with your athletes, as your athletes will be the ones required to follow procedures during practice.  This serves as additional notice in regard to Covid-19 and our  NAAC Medical & Liability Waivers.

Swimsuits, Equipment & Apparel

We are a Speedo Team and our Speedo Team dealer is Swimville USA!  For all of our swim equipment, Team suits, speedo apparel (team sweats, parkas, swim bags, ect) please visit Swimville on Bethel Road and/or register for our online Swimville USA NAAC store on our website HERE (Swimville USA Store sub-tab under Time Standrads/Links Tab).

**Please note that USA Swimming will NOT allow tech suits for swimmers 12 and under effective this season (now).  If your swimmer is 13 and over tech suits will be allowed in competition.  Note from USA Swimming HERE as a reminder.

Team apparel (t-shirts, hoodies, spirit wear, etc) is purchased through JC Manny, and our NAAC web store can be found HERE on our website (JC Manny Apparel sub-tab under Time Standards/Links Tab).  A direct link to our spirit wear is just below as well!

Team Update Aug 8, 2020

NAAC Families & Swimmers –

Welcome to our first Team Update of the 2020-21 NAAC Swim Season!  A BIG THANKS to all of our returning swimmers for rejoining us for the coming season, and a BIG THANKS to all of our new NAAC Swimmers and Swim Families!!  We’re #grateful that you’ll all be with us to face the challenges of the coming year head-on with #courage, and we are excited to get the new season underway to help all of our swimmers Learn, Have Fun and Compete!

A BIG GOOD LUCK also goes out to all of our departing HS graduates – we will miss you all!!

This Team Update will follow the typical structure of our regular Team Updates, just FYI.  We will sometimes send Team Updates that are simple bullet points (a few items with a lot of info), sometimes very brief (one or two items), but more often they will look like this.  You can find many of our most recent Team Updates HERE, the first sub-tab under our Team Info tab header.

In this Update…

  • New Season Info
  • Practices
  • Meets

New Season Info

          Communication

Our primary form of communication will be via email, both for the Team (like this Team Update) and for our groups (you will get Group Updates regularly).  We will update our Team Calendar on our homepage as soon as we might know of possible changes, and if we have any late changes to our schedule we will notify via email, text, and SMS (short message service) – all through our website.  So – please be sure that your Team Account has your best email, your best cell #, and if you want your swimmer to get the same updates please be sure that you have a good email and cell # for them in their Member info.

            Protocols

We will have some added protocols and procedures for the coming season compared to years past, for sure, and our NAHS protocols will look much the same as our current Summer Protocols at The Links Pool this summer.  Our most recent Summer Protocols are now updated and posted HERE.  We update our protocols regularly to be certain all of our participants are as safe as possible and to maintain appropriate protocols per current guidance.  Some considerations to know for the coming 2020-21 swim season follow, and please be aware that these protocols will likely change some over time…

  • Swimmers must arrive ready to swim – no locker room use.
  • No parents allowed in the building.
  • Entrance will be through the stadium entrance side.
  • Foyer entry doors will generally be open only 15 min per practice (10 min prior to a give practice start & 5 min post a given practice start).
  • Bleachers will be for swimmer’s bags, gold or maroon side per given practice.
  • Swimmers must arrive with face coverings/masks on until their group is prepared to leave the bleachers.
  • Swimmers will need all equipment from their Equipment Lists per group (updated soon!).
  • Swim equipment bags may be left on hooks per assigned groups, and should be grabbed as the group is released on deck, and hung as the group completes practice.
  • Restroom use is one swimmer at a time.
  • Swim practices will be distanced (swimmers per lane, spaced apart); dryland spaced as well.
  • Swimmers will be dismissed from practice as a group, should hang their equipment bags quickly, and proceed to their group’s side of the bleachers per that practice.
  • Swimmers will exit masked through the shallow end courtyard as soon as they have dried off and have their belongings.

Again, the above protocols are very similar to our Links protocols this summer, and Coaches will give reminders, reminders, reminders to follow protocols rather than yell or get angry.  And – swimmers should follow all of our protocols...!  We will update Swimmer Protocols for the NAHS pool before the 2020-21 season begins.

           Check Our Website…!

When in doubt, please check the website!  We will update our homepage Team Calendar ASAP with any info, and our Team Updates are posted regularly as well (as linked above).  We list as much info as possible on our website, so please familiarize yourselves with the site and be sure to check our homepage often (News Feed at the bottom of the page as well).

Practices

Now that we’ve covered some of the basic communication & protocol info, and if you couldn't tell from the info above, you will all be glad to hear that we are scheduled to be back at the NAHS Pool to start the new season!!  Hastings Waterworks is the NAHS Pool Management Company, and they are working diligently to get the pool and pool area ready for practices (after our 5 month hiatus) before we get our swimmers back in the water at the NAHS pool.  For reference, the pool and pool area are VERY clean, and all summer maintenance has now been completed, and the pool is now being prepped for opening!

General Upcoming Practice Schedule.  For specific group times please see the Team Calendar!

  • Next week – practices as currently scheduled at The Links

Wed Aug 12 last day Summer Hurricane

Fri Aug 14 last day Summer Typhoon

  • Mon Aug 17-Thurs Aug 20 – Elite & Cyclone at The Links

Thurs Aug 20 last day Summer Elite & Cyclone

And as of this week, it looks like we will be able to host a Fall/Winter/Spring College program for our former NAAC swimmers and current NAAC Families with College swimmers.  More details to come, and we hope to be able to provide an option for all of our swimmers affected by their College Covid policies this year.  We will get our regular fall schedule posted to our Team Calendar over the next couple weeks, and please refer to regular group info posted HERE for planning purposes until then.

Meets

Ohio Swimming cancelled all summer 2020 meets, and as of now will approve intra-squad and/or virtual meets only through Dec 31, 2020.  This intra-squad and/or virtual-only competition plan could change if circumstances improve, and we are working on specific dates and formats for currently approved meet contexts.  We will keep you all posted on our fall & winter meet schedule as we move into the start of the 2020-21 swim season!

Thanks – John C and the NAAC Coaches

Brief Team Update July 29, 2020

NAAC Families & Swimmers –

Just wanted to get a brief Update out in regard to the NA Superintendent’s post today about NA extra-curricular activities being called off through Mon Aug 3, and returning to Phase 1 (fall sports only, limited athlete/coach ratios, outdoor skills practices) on Tues Aug 4.  The posting is HERE on the NA schools website, and the Franklin County Public Health letter is attached for reference.

In short, NA schools are going along with the advice from Franklin Co for now, and will re-evaluate at their NA Board of Education meeting this coming Monday evening, Aug 3rd at 6pm.

NAAC has planned a walk through of protocols and NAHS pool re-opening next week, and a potential NAHS pool re-opening within the month, all prior to the NA Superintendent’s update today, and this may still be a possibility for August.  We will need to wait and see how events unfold.  Hopefully we have some general plans and/or dates in place by the end of next week – we will do our best.

Until then, please know that the NAAC Coaches and Board are evaluating all of our limited options, both for the remainder of the summer and for the coming 2020-21 swim season, and we will do all that we can to keep your kids swimming, learning, competing and HAVING FUN that we can.

As always, we will deal with any situations as they arise as best we can, and have in mind:

Beyond the Mountains

Are More Mountains.

Keep Climbing!

Thanks - John C

PS – Our 2020-21 Season Registration is now closed and our groups are full – thanks to so many for registering!  We again will do all that we can in order to have a successful 2020-21 season!

Team Update July 24, 2020

NAAC Families & Swimmers –

Hope you are all doing well as we round into the end of July!

We have next week as our final week of practices for Tsunami, Wave, Ripple & Breaker at the Links, with Fri July 31st our last day of programming for these groups – please all enjoy your last week of summer practices!!

In this Update:

  • Protocol Updates
  • Practices
  • Meets
  • Summer Apparel Orders
  • Tier 3 Registration

Protocol Updates

  • Positive Test Update:  Our Hurricane swimmer is symptom-free at home for the full 14 day quarantine period.  None of the swimmer’s family is ill, and no other Hurricane participants are ill.  Our goal is to maintain a zero transmission rate at practices through appropriate protocols.
  • Face Coverings/Masks:  Please remember that swimmers should have face coverings or masks on at entry, while on deck both before and after practice, and at exiting.
  • Travel Update:  In accordance with the State of Ohio Travel Advisory we will be moving from our current out-of-State protocol to the State protocol noted HERE, with a 7 day MINIMUM at-home period from date of arrival back in Ohio to return to NAAC practices from States 15% or over.  The linked map is updated every Wednesday, and we will be using ONLY the Ohio Travel Advisory map as of today.  We split the difference on our previous protocol wait (3 days) and Ohio’s suggestion (14 days) with our new 7 day wait.  There is NO PENALTY for missing practices if your preference is to wait the full 14 day suggestion by the State of Ohio before returning to practice.  We apologize for the change and want to stay on the path of Ohio’s suggestions while maintaining a zero transmission rate at practices.
  • Quarantine Periods:  We will likely have more swimmers and/or swimmer household members test positive as we move through the summer and into the new school year, and our strongest hopes are that any that test positive do not become very ill.  Please note that we will always follow our most current protocols for any NAAC participant that tests positive, and we ask that all please follow the State of Ohio household guidelines of a 14-day quarantine for any household member testing positive.  There is greater risk to all in not following the protocols than in simply doing so, and we ask for your cooperation on this item.  We have several swimmers, families and coaches that have either been tested as a precaution and/or self-quarantined as a precaution.  NAAC will not be releasing names of any swimmer, family and/or household that has a positive test, and just as has been this entire summer, there is no penalty for missed practices.
  • NAAC updated protocols are posted HERE.

Practices

  • Friday July 31st is our last day of Summer practices for Tsunami, Wave, Ripple & Breaker.
  • Other groups will occupy available time at the Links and/or at NAHS through August 14th for Typhoon & Hurricane, and through Thursday August 20th for Elite & Cyclone.  We extended the Sr group practice end date in line with the extended, rolling start to the NA school year, and we will adjust our Sr group 2020-21 start date based on the days and times available at the NAHS pool this August.
  • The NAHS pool is waiting on pump room replacement parts, then installation, and they hope to be open to us shortly thereafter – if you’ve heard rumors otherwise that is nothing NAAC has heard in any way, please be aware.
  • We will update our August practice calendar once we know NAHS pool availability, continuing week-to-week posting until then.

Meets

  • As of this Monday, July 20, Ohio Swimming has formally postponed the approved 2020-21 Meet Schedule through Dec 31, 2020.
  • Ohio Swimming will soon begin granting only Virtual Meet Sanctions for Sept 1st – Dec 31st as things stand currently.
  • NAAC will plan by this new information, and we will get Fall Virtual Meet plans out to Team Families and posted soon.  This means all or most NAAC meet opportunities will be contested at the NAHS pool.  It is possible that we may attend some high-level out-of-State qualifying meets (Pro-Series, US Open, Jr. Nationals), and less probable that we will have the opportunity to attend other in-person out-of-State meets.  No matter, we can keep swimmers engaged and progressing through Learning, Having Fun, and Competing (even if only virtually competing!)

Summer Apparel Orders

  • We will have summer apparel on deck for swimmer pick up as soon as our order is completed – more details soon!

Tier 3 Registration

  • We have Tier 3 registration info available HERE for all of our wait list area Families.  We have completed all New Swimmer Evals for the summer, and we have a limited number of spaces available per group.  Any further availability after Tier 3 is complete will be announced in September, sometime after our scheduled AG start to the 20-21 season.
  • Thanks again to the now 225+ swimmers and 170+ Team Families now registered for the 2020-21 NAAC Swim Season!

Thanks – NAAC Coaches

We regrettably had a Hurricane swimmer test positive for Covid-19 today, Fri July 17.

The swimmer has not been at practice since Mon July 13, had only mild symptoms this week, was tested Wed, test came back positive today, and the swimmer is now symptom free.  We wanted to get this info out to you all ASAP so that you can self-monitor, and hopefully all of our Hurricane families and NAAC swimmers are feeling OK.  All three NAAC Coaches that were on deck with the Hurricane swimmers on Sunday and Monday of this week will also be off deck for three days, and can return to the deck Tuesday as they remain symptom free.

  • Hurricane practices cancelled until Wed July 22

2020-21 Primary Season Registration

We are currently open HERE for 2020-21 Season Registration for all current NAAC Team Families for Tier 1 Registration ONLY UNTIL TOMORROW, Tues July 14 @ Midnight.   We have a long waiting list from interested swimmers that we could not place this summer, particularly in our upper groups, so please register in this initial registration window, by July 14th, to be sure your swimmer has a spot for the coming season.  And THANKS AGAIN to all of the 180+ swimmers that have already registered for the coming season!

We understand that some of our Team Families have concerns heading into the new season, with all of the corona-changes, and how school and extra-curricular activities might fit together.  Please know that we want all of our swimmers to be happy and healthy, and of course to be able to continue swimming fast(er), and just as we stated heading into Summer 2020 training, returning to practice for the 2020-21 season should be, and must be, YOUR choice and what is in the best interest of YOUR family.  We will always have all of our swimmer’s best interests in mind, whether they are swimming with us, not swimming with us, or otherwise.

All current Team Families registered by tomorrow for the 2020-21 season will have their registrations approved between July 15 and 20, just FYI.

No official word otherwise from NAHS yet, so we are still planning group practices as scheduled last year +/- as listed HERE, pending any additional NAHS requirements.  All 2020-21 practice plans are tentative until we have NAHS protocol approval for the coming season.

For any remaining group spots, our Tier 2 Registration for new NAPLSD area Families will follow shortly after Tier 1 and run from July 20-25, and our Tier 3 Registration for any area Families will follow immediately July 26-31.  Tier 2 and Tier 3 registration will be limited, and we will follow our spring/summer wait list per Tiers as above.  Our wait lists, particularly for our upper groups, are extensive, just FYI.  A new swimmer evaluation will be required prior to new family registration unless otherwise approved by Coaches Coffman & Bernsdorf, and New Team Family Swimmer Evaluation dates, times & locations are posted to our Team Calendar and New Swimmer Info HERE.

2020 Summer NAAC T-Shirt Contest

We have our 2020 Summer NAAC T-Shirt order available HERE and attached to your Team Update email!!  Please give your order to any Coach on deck BY THIS SUNDAY, JULY 19, with CASH or CHECK attached!!  Sorry for the tight deadline, but we want to get shirts out to the Team by or before July 31!

Again, congrats to both Ashlyn Morr and Dana Stan on their winning designs, posted online HERE !

NAHS Pool:  No new info yet – we promise to keep you all posted and we are hopeful for a late July or early August opening.

Vacations:  No missed practice concerns with ANY vacations that you may be able to take this summer.  We have no official meets to plan for yet, so please make the most of your Family’s summer, and have swimmers attend practices as often as they are otherwise able.  Please see our Covid Protocol Reminder info below if you will be traveling out-of-State this summer.

Summer end dates:  Our 4 beginner groups (Breaker, Ripple, Wave & Tsunami) will be through with summer practices the week ending Fri July 31.  Our next 2 groups (Hurricane & Typhoon) will be through with summer practices the week ending Fri August 14.  We plan on resuming 2020-21 season practices for all 6 of our AG groups just after Labor Day, on Tues September 8th

For our Sr Groups (Cyclone, Elite & College) we are planning to have a short break, from Sun August 16 through Sun August 23, and will resume 2020-21 season practices Mon Aug 24.

Meets

It is looking like we will have primarily intra-group racing at practices this summer, with no meets in line for this summer as of now in mid-July.  We hope to be able to have our Sr swimmers practice and race with UA’s Sr swimmers on Sat July 25 as noted above, and we may be able to branch out from there.

We will post a 2020-21 Meet Schedule as soon as we have some more solid info.  Ohio Swimming has a 20-21 Meet Calendar listed but these meets are not official yet, mainly per possible facility availability.

Covid Out-of-State Protocol Reminder

As mentioned repeatedly in recent Updates, we want our NAAC Families to vacation as they are able to this summer since we have no meets yet scheduled, and please also note out-of-State travel info in the posted protocols linked HERE We are requesting that any participants that vacation out-of-State in any State with a higher Covid case rate than Ohio remain away from NAAC practices for a 3-day period after returning home, and to self-monitor for any symptoms during these 3 days to help ensure the safety of all participants.  We will be using the CDC 7 Day State by State case rate to evaluate vacation return to practice possible 3 day quarantine procedures – linked HERE, then just click on cases in last 7 days to get CURRENT case rate per State.  PLEASE SEE MOST CURRENT UPDATE AS OF 7-24.

Some parents have kept swimmers home due to possible covid exposure, which we appreciate.  We are asking that everyone do likewise should anyone have a known exposure, and of course should any of our swimmers feel sick or have a temperature, please stay home.  If you have any questions please contact Coach Coffman.

These guidelines are subject to revision over time as context and circumstances dictate.  Review and update will take place at the start of each month, and more often if warranted, and again, please contact Coach Coffman if you have any questions.  Summer 2020 NAAC Protocols are also posted under our 2020 Summer Practice Info news tab and info.

-------------------------

We will keep getting any and all info out to the team as we get confirmation from NAHS for summer pool use, for any 2020-21 possible practice schedule updates, and for any/all additional info that all might need.

Thanks – NAAC Coaches

Team Update July 7, 2020

NAAC Families & Swimmers –

Hope you all had a great 4th of July weekend!!  Several things below – please read all that follows so that we are all on the same page as we move forward through July.

In this Update…

  • 2020-21 Primary Season Registration Ends Tuesday July 14
  • Practices
  • Meets
  • Covid Protocol Reminder
  • 2020 Summer NAAC T-Shirt Contest

2020-21 Primary Season Registration

We are currently open HERE for 2020-21 Season Registration for all current NAAC Team Families for Tier 1 Registration July 1-14.   We have a long waiting list from interested swimmers that we could not place this summer, so please register in this initial registration window, by July 14th, to be sure your swimmer has a spot for the coming season.  It is unlikely that we will be able to add any swimmers per group once we’ve reached our group cap.  All 2020-21 Season info is now posted HERE with the most up-to-date info we currently have available for NAHS pool use, all updated group fees, and our 2020-21 general plans.  As of now we are planning group practices as scheduled last year +/-, pending any additional NAHS requirements.  All 2020-21 practice plans are tentative until we have NAHS protocol approval for the coming season.

Again, we have 2020-21 Group Assignments posted HERE, and you must be logged in to view.  We assign groups based upon a variety of factors each year - skill level, practice abilities, event times, age and grade are all among our primary considerations, with long-term planning for both the swimmers and the groups in mind as well.  The Coaches have streamlined and evened out group placement numbers as best we can, and if NA Schools require us to rearrange any of our current plans we will do so and will keep you all posted.  #Grateful we have the opportunity to move forward with our planning & preparation for the 2020-21 season!

We want all of our swimmers to get the most out of each level of swimming through long-term planning so that they can continue to Learn, Compete and Have Fun as best as possible - this is a big part of NAAC’s overall success!

For any current Team Family siblings that would like to try swimming with NAAC this coming season, we will have new sibling evals this Friday, July 10th, at the Links pool from 7:45-8:15am.  We have a several NAAC Team Families that have expressed some interest, and as above we will have limited space available per group, particularly once our Tier One registration is closed July 14th.

A new swimmer evaluation will be required prior to new family registration unless otherwise approved by Coaches Coffman & Bernsdorf, and New Team Family Swimmer Evaluation dates, times & locations will post by Fri July 10.

Practices

NAHS Pool:  NA has been performing some of the standard yearly pool maintenance for the NAHS pool recently, and we continue looking forward to their opening sometime this summer.  We will continue to update the July practice schedule week-by-week, and will keep you all posted on any and all new info.  We will adjust our current practice schedule ASAP to include NAHS pool use once we have the green light from the school, just FYI as it is possible we may not have much lead time to notify everyone of the new schedule.

Vacations:  No missed practice concerns with ANY vacations that you may be able to take this summer.  We have no official meets to plan for yet, so please make the most of your Family’s summer, and have swimmers attend practices as often as they are otherwise able.  Please see our Covid Protocol Reminder info (UPDATED 7-24).

Summer end dates:  Our end date plans for practices this summer follow, and as with so many things over the last 4+ months these plans are subject to change.  Our 4 beginner groups (Breaker, Ripple, Wave & Tsunami) will be through with summer practices on Fri July 31.  Our next 2 groups (Hurricane & Typhoon) will be through with summer practices Fri August 14.  We plan on resuming 2020-21 season practices for all 6 of our AG groups just after Labor Day, on Tues September 8th.

Our Sr Groups (Cyclone, Elite & College) will have a short break, from Sun August 16 through Sun August 23, and currently plan on beginning 2020-21 season practices Mon Aug 24.

Meets

It is still possible that we could have some virtual meets - or perhaps even very limited actual meets (?) - later in July or August, but as much of the last 3 months have been, the situation is fluid and will be dictated by context (pools able & willing to host a “meet” is our primary factor).  Fingers crossed we can have some competitions with other teams (we are discussing meets with other teams now), and intra-squad competitions will occur either way!  More on Meets as our summer progresses.

Covid Protocol Reminder

REMINDER ! ! ! !  We have our NAAC 2020 Summer Covid 19 Positive Test, Quarantine and NAAC Travel Protocol document posted online HERE for NAAC Families to review, with updated Swimmer & Coach return to practice protocols as well.  Please be assured that we have all of our Team Families best interests in mind – we want to provide a safe practice & competition environment for all, and should any NAAC Swimmer, Coach, or immediate family member of either, test positive for Covid 19 we will move forward judiciously & in a fully confidential manner.

As mentioned repeatedly in recent Updates, we want our NAAC Families to vacation as they are able to this summer since we have no meets yet scheduled, and please also note out-of-State travel info in the newly posted protocols linked above.  We are requesting that any participants that vacation out-of-State in any State with a higher Covid case rate than Ohio remain away from NAAC practices for a 3-day period after returning home, and to self-monitor for any symptoms during these 3 days to help ensure the safety of all participants.  We will be using the CDC 7 Day State by State case rate to evaluate vacation return to practice possible 3 day quarantine procedures – linked HERE, then just click on Cases in Last 7 Days to get CURRENT case rate per State.  UPDATES LINKED ABOVE!

Some parents have kept swimmers home due to possible covid exposure, which we appreciate.  We are asking that everyone do likewise should anyone have a known exposure, and of course should any of our swimmers feel sick or have a temperature, please stay home.  And if you have any questions please refer to our protocols linked above and/or contact Coach Coffman.

2020 Summer NAAC T-Shirt Contest

Thanks so much to all of the swimmers that submitted designs for our Suumer T-Shirt Contest!

The results from our Team Voting are now in and a BIG CONGRATS to both Ashlyn Morr and Dana Stan on their winning designs!!  We will place both designs (front and back) on our 2020 Summer apparel, with order forms heading your way soon!  Please check out the winning designs HERE.

Thanks again to all who participated in our T-Shirt design contest, so many great entries and works of art from our NAAC Swimmers!!

-----------------------

We will keep getting any and all info out to the team as we get confirmation from NAHS for summer pool use, for any 2020-21 possible practice schedule updates, and for any/all additional info that all might need.

Thanks – NAAC Coaches

Team Update June 20, 2020

NAAC Families & Swimmers –

Great end and a super sunny & warm weekend to wrap our third week back in the water after our extended covid layoff.  We are moving into some more regular practice sets & training, and it’s been great to see so many of our swimmers and Team Families at our AM Links practices!!

T-shirt design contest wraps up tomorrow, Sunday June 21st!  Please have your swimmer submit their design by tomorrow and we will get a Google form out to the team to vote on designs this coming week!  Details posted on our June 15 Team Update listed HERE.

Practices

NAHS Pool:  No new info yet on the NAHS pool opening date, and we have been in contact with the school admin regularly, with everyone trying to move forward with a controlled NAHS pool opening.  We will keep you all posted on any and all info, and will adjust our current practice schedule to include NAHS pool use once we have the green light.

Weather:  We have had rain in the AM a little so far this summer, and as usual we will have practice if it only rains, and we will cancel practice if there is thunder, and will cancel all practices if it looks like continuous thunder & lightning.  We will note on our Team Google calendar on our homepage and will text & email the full team if there are practice adjustments due to weather, and we apologize in advance if there are early AM messages (!).  Please use your best judgment aside from any of our announcements, and as stated previously there is NO PENALTY for missing practices this summer.  We are simply grateful to be back in the water!

4th of July weekend & any/all vacations:  We will have NO PRACTICES over Fri July 3rd through Sun July 5th weekend.  Please travel and plan around those dates without any concerns, and please no concerns with ANY vacations that you may be able to take this summer.  We have no meets to plan for yet, so please make the most of your Family’s summer, and have swimmers attend practices s often as they are otherwise able.

Swimmer Equipment Bags:  Coach John C still has 10+ swimmer equipment bags in his car, and there are some bags at the Links in the storage room.  Please be sure your swimmer has what they need with them every day, and we will do our best to gather any NAAC swimmer items at the end of each day for our NAAC lost and found, that is in our NAAC equipment crate and/or the Links storage room.  Please simply have your swimmer ask if they’ve forgotten anything at The Links.

Summer Swim Camps and/or Clinics:  We are aware that there are some area and regional swim camps and clinics currently available, and if your swimmer might be interested in attending any of these PLEASE be sure that their interest is swimmer driven.  Most of you swimmers results will come from their consistent, high-level efforts at their regular group practices – not only this year, but each and every year.  Clinics and camps are OK if the interest in attending is primarily swimmer-driven, and are only minor additions to consistent, high-level efforts in regular Team practices.

Quiet for early practices:  Just a reminder that we need to be relatively quiet at The Links, especially for our very early-starting 5:45AM practices.  Thanks!

Meets

No new news on possible summer meets yet, and our Coaches will be discussing inter-squad and/or inter-group racing for our swimmers as we move past July 4th weekend and most of our swimmers have had a chance to re-acclimate to regular swim training.  Ohio Swimming announced earlier in June that our LCM schedule for Ohio has been officially cancelled for the 2020 LCM summer season, just as a reminder.

It is possible we could have some virtual meets later in July or August, but as much of the last 3 months have been, the situation is fluid and will be dictated by context (pools able & willing to host a “meet” is our primary factor).  Fingers crossed we can have some competitions with other teams, and intra-squad competitions will occur either way!  More on Meets as our summer progresses.

Summer 2020 New Swimmers

We were able to accept a very limited number of new NAAC Swimmers for this summer and the upcoming 2020-21 swim season – a BIG WELCOME to our new NAAC Swimmers & Families!!  If you see new NAAC Swimmers and/or new NAAC Swim Families please welcome them aboard!  We also have many of our NAAC College Swimmers joining us over the summer, and they are all currently on a rotating schedule to accommodate our covid practice protocols.

2020-21 Season Registration

We will have 2020-21 Group Assignments posted by the end of next week.  We are planning to open new season registration in early July, and are waiting to hear back from NAHS and the school administration before making any final announcements to our Team Families so that we can account for any new protocols or procedures the school might require outside of any of our current covid protocols.  We are attempting to contain both potential chaos and costs as much as possible for the upcoming season.

This year we are planning on posting the 2020-21 groups (rather than individual placement emails) to better foster Team and Group unityWe are all on the same team, and grateful to be back at practices!!  We assign groups based upon a variety of factors each year (skill level, practice abilities, age and grade among our primary considerations).  The Coaches are currently streamlining and evening out group placement numbers as best we can, and if NA Schools require us to rearrange any of our current plans we will do so and will keep you all posted.  More info on the upcoming season next week!

Thanks – NAAC Coaches

Team Update June 15, 2020

Hello NAAC team families!

We are so grateful to be back in the water, training, working hard and having fun together as a team !  All groups have caught on to our social distancing protocols and have done an amazing job!

With the June 1st announcement from Ohio Swimming stating the cancellation of the Long Course Season’s Meets, the  coaching staff thought it might be a fun idea for a team T-shirt design contest in lieu of a championship season shirt! We would love to have any swimmer on the team submit a T-shirt design for this summer‘s season! JC Manny will scan the winning design and we will put together an order form for anyone wanting to purchase a T-shirt or hoodie.

We will we need all original designs turned into coaches by this Sunday June 21st. We will then send out a Google form for the team to vote on their favorite design!

Some suggestions:

    1.    Please make sure that it says Summer 2020 on the design somewhere. You can incorporate a theme, whether it be “The Lost Season”, or an idea that you would think may be appropriate to the times we are experiencing!

    2.    Please do not use crayons or pencils.

    3.    Please keep it to two or three colors. Maximum would be three colors! Fine tip markers will scan the best!

    4.    Make sure it is appropriate for all age groups!

    5.    Have fun with it and let us see your creativity!

We can’t wait to see all the creative ideas! A full team update will be emailed later this week,

- NAAC coaches

Team Update June 3, 2020

NAAC Families & Swimmers –

We’re back…!

Great start to our first week back in the water after our extended covid layoff.  We are tightening up our protocols this week so that we can maintain a safe return to practice and will keep the swimmers informed and aware of any changes as we move forward.  And again for reference, please check our 2020 Summer Practice Info HERE.

Practices

Weather:  We are forecast to have showers this evening through early tomorrow AM, and as usual we will have practice if it rains, and we will cancel practice if there is thunder, and will cancel all practices if it looks like continuous thunder & lightning.

4th of July weekend:  We will have NO PRACTICES over Fri July 3rd through Sun July 5th weekend.  Please travel and plan around those dates without any concerns.

Swimmer Equipment Bags:  Coach John C still has 20+ swimmer equipment bags in his car, and will be picking up the bags remaining at NAHS soon.  Please be sure your swimmer has what they need with them everyday, and we will do our best to gather any NAAC swimmer items at the end of each day for our NAAC lost and found, that is in our NAAC equipment crate.  Please simply have your swimmer ask if they’ve forgotten anything at The Links.

Quiet for early practices:  Just a reminder that we need to be relatively quiet at The Links, especially for our very early-starting 5:45AM practices.  Thanks!

Meets

Ohio Swimming announced earlier this week that our LCM schedule for Ohio has been officially cancelled for the 2020 LCM summer season.  More info from Ohio Swimming HERE, and our Meet Schedule posting is updated on our website HERE.

It is possible we could have some virtual meets later in July and perhaps we could have some smaller August competitions, but as much of the last 3 months have been, the situation is fluid and will be dictated by context.  Fingers crossed we can have some competitions with other teams, and intra-squad competitions will occur either way!  More on Meets as our summer progresses.

Coaches

As announced a couple of weeks ago, Coach Cyndi will be leaving NAAC in pursuit of a career in Public Health.  We will miss her greatly, and any correspondence or gifts can be dropped off at practice and we will be sure she receives.

And, as of today, our own Coach John Sands will be leaving NAAC as well and joining the coaching team at UA as the Head Girls HS Coach and the UASC Girls Sr Coach.  We will miss John S greatly as well, and thank him as we did Coach Cyndi for all of his time, efforts, sweat and patience over the years.  Coach Sands has been Coaching with NAAC since John C took over as Head Coach 10+ years ago, and of course was a NAAC swimmer for many years as well (check the Team Records HERE – 50 & 100 Free).  It is an honor to have one of our NAAC Coaches move on to a high position at another club, and we wish him the best!  Any correspondence or gifts can be dropped off at practice and we will be sure he receives, and Coach Sands has a few words here that he would like us to share:

Dear Naac family,

My name is John Sands & I have been a part of NAAC in one capacity or another for the past 20 years. This team and some of the older coaches on staff pushed me as an athlete to Junior National Championships, an Ohio State Championship, and a full scholarship to swim at UNC. Those same coaches embraced me after college when I began coaching and challenged me to grow as a coach. They have helped NAAC improve over time and become a force in Ohio swimming at every level.

Because of my experience at NAAC, coaching with John Coffman, Jen Bernsdorf & the rest of the NAAC staff, I have the opportunity to leave and join a different club for the first time in decades. I am moving on to become the Head Girls Swim Coach at Upper Arlington High School and UASC. Before I leave to take on an opportunity & challenge that is impossible to pass up, I asked John Coffman to allow me to sing NAAC’s praises.

I feel incredibly lucky to have coached for a team and a group of coaches who put the swimmer first and build swimmers up in a way that is sustainable and positive. My hope is that as I move on I can carry the lessons I learned here at NAAC with me.  I appreciate all the support and relationships I have here at NAAC and can't wait to watch all my NAAC homies swim fast next season.

Thanks – John Sands

Summer 2020 New Swimmer Info

We will be evaluating groups this week and will begin to respond to our wait-listed swimmers this Sunday and over the coming week.  We will work from our Senior group down, and will keep all wait list swimmers posted and update our New Swimmer Info HERE as we sort our summer season.

Thanks – NAAC Coaches

Team Update May 28, 2020

NAAC Families & Swimmers –

Lots of info below – please read all so that we are all on the same page as we roll into the start of June and NAAC practices, at last…!  We’re grateful to be able to get back in the water together!!

NAAC will begin practice at the Links starting Monday, June 1st!

We have times & days per group listed on our News Feed (at the bottom of our homepage) today, and our initial return to practice schedule per group is listed below We also hope to be able to get back into the NAHS pool soon as well – discussions are ongoing, and we will keep you all posted in regard to any practice changes, additions, etc.  We realize that not all of these practice times are ideal, and we are grateful to be able to practice all considered.  Once the HS pool is open we will try to eliminate most very early AM practices and most weekend practices.

We will be able to host some practices for ALL groups beginning June 1st, even if in a split A/B fashion with swimming and dryland split over a given practice.  We can have 24 swimmers in the water at a time to begin this summer, so any group practice with over 24 swimmers will be split into A/B for swim/dryland.  All group practice times are listed on our Team Calendar today (and below), and again, once the HS pool opens practice days and times will change.

NAAC Return to Practice Protocols are posted on our News Feed HERE and on our Picture Scroll Buttons (2020 Summer Practice Info!), and must be followed well for your swimmer to practice this summer.  Please note swimmers must arrive on time, ready to swim and do dryland; no locker room use, no deck changing.  Coach protocols are also HERE for reference.

Responsible Restart Ohio Pool Operation criteria are listed HERE, which generally guides facility planning.

Responsible Restart Ohio Skills Training for All Sports criteria are listed HERE, which generally guides our practice planning.

Aside from the above we must abide by whatever additional rules the facilities we rent from decide upon (NAHS & The Links).  We will keep you all posted.

We will not be charging our Beginning 4 groups (Breaker, Ripple, Wave & Tsunami) anything for our summer programming as these groups finished paying for their season in full in March.  In essence we will be swapping Summer season (June & July) for our missed Spring season (April & May) for our Beginning 4 groups.  August will be mostly off time for our Beginning 4 groups.

We will be charging those on a monthly payment plan in our Upper 4 groups (Hurricane, Typhoon, Cyclone & Elite) a one-time 75% amount of a normal monthly payment on June 1st, as April & May payments were cancelled. This will allow NAAC to cover the added covid-related operation costs and remain on even footing for the remainder of this summer – we are not banking any money this year, just FYI.  Please let Coach Coffman know by Noon this Sunday, May 31, if you cannot make this happen in your current financial situation and/or attendance comfort level, and we will help you find an answer.  We will credit Family Accounts that paid in full in Sept 2019 for our Upper 4 groups for the balance of group fees (1.25 of a monthly group fee credit) for the coming season, so all upper group families are charged equally for the season per group.  We are planning for June, July and some of August for our Upper 4 groups.

We have had several new swimmer requests from other teams, and please know that we will take care of our current Team Families first.  We will then open any possible spots for new swimmers based on criteria listed HERE in our News Feed and on our Picture Scroll Buttons (Summer 2020 New Swimmer Info).

If you are planning or have scheduled a Family Vacation PLEASE take your vacation!  We can not guarantee that pools will remain open all summer, and we will most likely train through whatever meet(s) might happen later this summer and/or fall.  As things look today it is doubtful that we will be able to attend any actual meets this summer, but perhaps compete in some virtual meets (?).  If we’ve learned anything in the past 2+ months it’s that situations can change quickly – please take your vacations as you are able.

The Spring Officials Clinic has been cancelled & current Ohio Swimming Officials have been granted a 6 month extension.  More info posted on our Officials Page HERE, and we will update as we receive more info from Ohio Swimming.

We will keep you informed on any new info we receive, and we will keep posting all Team Updates on our Team Updates Page HERE so that you can find all of the info we send out & link to in one place.

Thanks and looking forward to seeing all of our swimmers back in the water!!

- Coach John C and the NAAC Coaches

NAAC Initial Return to Practice

Starting Monday June 1st at the Links

By attending NAAC practices this Summer, your swimmer is voluntarily participating.  NAAC has reviewed all re-opening guidelines as noted above to create our Return to Practice protocols.  That being said, although we will be taking preventative measures to reduce the spread of Covid-19, we cannot guarantee the health and safety of our members.  Returning to practice should, and must be, YOUR choice and what is in the best interest of YOUR family.  No practice group spots will be lost, no meets will be missed, and no coach will take concern should your family choose not to participate this summer.  Please review our protocols with your athletes, as your athletes will be the ones required to follow procedures during practice.  This serves as additional notice in regard to Covid-19 and our NAAC Medical & Liability Waivers.
