Coaches

Our coaches are the best around. Good people who have grown up right here in our Walnut Creek waters – swimming for the Rats or the Knights or DVC. They love our community and keep coming back year after year to teach our kids – not just to be good swimmers, but also to be good people. These coaches are talented, hardworking and hold Rats swimmers to high standards, but they make the pool deck a fun time for everyone. With this group of coaches on board, expectations are high for 2018.

Meet the Coaches

HEAD COACH:   Dow Stewart

Dow StewartDow has nearly nearly 20 years of experience coaching at the recreational and high school levels, most recently leading the Monte Vista High School Women’s team to a NCS and State title. He is a native of Walnut Creek, growing up swimming on the Indian Valley Swim Team and going on to swim at Las Lomas High School and Diablo Valley College. Dow currently is a math teacher at Monte Vista High School and has spent the past several summers coaching recreational swimming in Danville. "I am thrilled to be coming back to my roots within the Walnut Creek Swim Conference, and I hope to balance fun with hard work and quality stroke instruction."

ASSISTANT COACH: Megan Dhaliwal

Coach Megan Dhaliwal started swimming for the Rudgear Rats when she was 6 years old and continued with the team until she was 18. She also swam several fall seasons with Orinda Aquatics. Megan is 20 years old and is finishing up her junior year at the University of Missouri, where she studies Biochemistry and coaches a local year-round swim program. Megan’s favorite stroke is butterfly, and she enjoys helping spearhead spirit and social activities for the Rats. This is her third year coaching the Rats and she is looking forward to another fun summer. Go Rats!

ASSISTANT COACH: Maya Loventhal

Coach Maya Loventhal is excited to return for her second season coaching the Rats, the team where she learned to swim at the age of 4. Maya spent 11 years swimming for Rudgear Estates before going on to swim year round with the Walnut Creek Aquabears and USA Swimming. She completed her first year of college at Loyola Marymount University, swimming for the Lions in the Division I Pacific Coast Conference. Last year Maya studied at Diablo Valley College and plans to attend a four-year university in the fall. Maya’s favorite events are IM and Backstroke, and she enjoys working with swimmers on their starts and turns. She can’t wait to spend the spring and summer on the pool deck and get her green on!  Go Rats!

ASSISTANT COACH: Cameron Louie

Coach Cameron Louie is currently a freshman at the University of Colorado-Boulder and is excited to return for his third year with Rudgear Estates. While still a swimmer for the Rats, Cam led the Polliwog program for 2 years. He started swimming when he was 5 for the Walnut Creek Aquabears, joined the Rats in 2012 and continued to swim up for the Rats until his final season of eligibility last year. Cam also swam four seasons for Las Lomas High School. His favorite stroke is breaststroke and he can often be seen on deck sipping ice tea! Cam is thrilled to be back with the Rats this summer and is ready to goof around with the swimmers. Go Rats!
