Stroke Development Progression

STROKE DEVELOPMENT: DISCOVERY GROUP (All Ages)
The Stroke Development Discovery Group consists of swimmers who are new to competitive club swimming. It is intended for all new swimmers in the age range of 6-12 coming into our program. The Stroke Discovery group offers 3 workouts per week. Workouts are designed to develop new swimmers streamlines, balance, breathing, and transitions in all four strokes; and to help gain comfort performing all these concepts in a race situation.

Workouts
Workouts are offered 2-3x/week for 45-60 minutes.

Practice Requirement
There is no attendance requirement for this group, but athletes will improve more quickly, and become more acclimated to our team culture and teammates, the more often they attend workout. 

Discovery Swimming Requirements 
► Swims 25 yards of Freestyle and Backstroke
► Starts and finishes at the wall
► SwimAmerica Level 6 or 7

Discovery Goals
► Swim a 100 IM legally
► Do a flip turn
► Streamline off wall, plus dolphin to flutter kick transitioning
► Basic understanding of the pace clock.

Discovery Training Equipment (Team Gear Store)
► Fins
► Mesh bag
► Kickboard (optional)
► Swimsuit (no board shorts for boys) 
► Goggles (two pair) 
► SWIFT cap (required for anyone with long hair) 

STROKE DEVELOPMENT: COMPETITIVE GROUP
The Stroke Development Competitive Group consists of swimmers who have been competitive club swimming for at least 2 years and have consistently competed in 3 meets a season.  It is intended for competitive swimmers in the age range of 8-14. The Stroke Development Competitive group offers 4 workouts per week. Workouts are designed to help swimmers consistently train while using proper technique (streamlines, balance, breathing, and transitions in all four strokes); and  are gaining comfort performing all these concepts in race situations.

► 8x50’s Kick - 2 ea. IM Order
► 8x50’s Swim - 2 ea. IM Order
► Swim 3x200 IM legally
► Perform all turns and push-offs efficiently 
► Perform track start and backstroke start effectively 
► Athlete is motivated to listen to coaches and try to improve 
► Shows respect to other swimmers in pool 
► Athletes know their attitude affects how they swim and how others around them swim 
► Develop consistent practice attendance

STROKE DEVELOPMENT: REACH GROUP
The Stroke Development Reach Group consists of swimmers who attend at least 4 weekly practices and compete regularly in 3+ meets per season. It is intended for swimmers in the age range of 8-14 in our program. The Stroke Development Reach Group offers 4-5 workouts per week. Workouts are designed for swimmers who have obtained an intermediate to mastery skill level of basic proper techniques (streamlines, balance, breathing, and transitions in all four strokes); and who are fine-tuning those skills. These athletes are extremely comfortable with race situations and are beginning the discovery of various race strategy (timing, pacing, building, etc.).

Swimmer must be approaching B Time Standards [USA SWIMMING MOTIVATIONAL TIME STANDARDS]
