Stroke Development II:
Age: 8 and under
Stroke Development II is designed for novice swimmers at the beginning of their swimming careers and is made up of primarily 8 and unders with a few 9-10 year olds.
The goals of swimmers in this group are to develop proper stroke mechanics in all four strokes and to foster fun and enjoyment for the sport. Swimmers in this group are taught the basics, focusing on developing comfort in the water and eliminating struggle.
Swimming terms and basics are taught to these developmental swimmers. Swimmers are taught how to be good teammates and practice procedures. This group is entirely instructional. Swimmers are expected to attend up to three practices a week as offered. Swimmers will be taught and prepared for future competition.
Requirements for this group:
Completion of level 3 swim lessons or equal
Ability to swim 50 yards of freestyle and backstroke safely
Ability to focus for one hour of practice three days a week
Proper stroke mechanics in freestyle, backstroke, butterfly, and breaststroke
Basic development and understanding of starts and turns
Basic understanding of swimming terms
Basic understanding of yardages
Ability to perform each stroke legally
Have fun in the water
Parameters for advancement:
Swimmer ages up to 9
Swimmer understands and has basic mechanics of all strokes
Advancement is based on coach’s discretion
