Age Groups

Swim meets are entered by age group. For the meets that Killer Whale swimmers compete in — USA Swimming seeded meets — the age classifications cover the same age groups, but the definitions of those age groups differs. In the case of USA Swimming, a competitor’s age group depends on his or her age as of the first day of the meet being swum. The age classifications are as follows:

  • 8 years and Under
  • 9 – 10 years
  • 11 – 12 years
  • 13 – 14 years
  • Senior (15 and over)

So, for example, if a swimmer has her 13th birthday on the 2nd day of the meet, she can compete as a 12 year old for the entire meet.
