Oro Valley Swim Team Year-Round (USA) Training Groups

 Emerald Group is the standard 8&U group, focusing mostly on improving technique in freestyle and backstroke, learning some basics of butterfly and breaststroke, and having fun. Swimmers must be readily able to swim 50 yards of both freestyle and backstroke before joining. Practice is offered M-Th. Swimmers at this level should attend 2 to 3 practices per week.

Ruby Group is for the typical 9-10 year old swimmer (1 to 3 years of experience). Swimmers will continue to improve their freestyle and backstroke, and spend much more time developing their breaststroke, butterfly, turns, and conditioning. Practice is offered M-Th, and swimmers should try to make 3 or 4 practices. Swimmers in this group should be able to swim a 100y freestyle at decent speed and without stopping. Swimmers should know or be able to demonstrate some skill with fly or breast. 

Sapphire Group is geared towards the average 11-12 year old (2 to 5 years of experience). This group is for swimmers that know their strokes. Technique will continue to be refined and more intensity will be added to their training. Practice is offered 5 days per week. Swimmers should attend at least three workouts. Swimmers should be able to swim sets of 100’s free or back and be able to attempt 200 IM’s.  Swimmers should be legal with their breast and fly.

Topaz Group is designed for advanced and committed 9-12 year olds. Training will focus on establishing a solid mental, physical, and technical foundation to prepare these athletes for long term success in the sport of swimming.  Swimmers should speak with the coaches about attendance, skill, and speed requirements. Some Saturday practices will be available.

Black Group is for advanced 11-14 year olds. The Black Group will continue to refine technique and work towards teaching the swimmers how to train at a higher intensity.  Swimmers will be taught the skills necessary to achieve their goals. Expectations will vary based on each swimmer’s goals. Some Saturday practices will be available.

 Senior Group is our standard group for high school age swimmers. Practice will be offered 7+ times per week, including morning and Saturday practices. Regular attendance is expected at this level.

 Red Group is for our most committed senior swimmers with a goal of qualifying and preparing for meets outside of the state. Practice will be offered 7+ times per week. The Head Coach will speak to swimmers eligible swimmers that meet the attendance and speed requirements.
