Ulf Ornhjelm

COBRA Head Coach, Squad 1

Ulf Ornhjelm has 24 years of coaching experience and has coached swimmers to numerous National and provincial records. He has placed swimmers on Canadian National , Junior, Youth and Age Group Teams over the last 20 years

Ulf started coaching in 1989 for the ACE Swim Team and became the Head Coach from 1992-1998. In the fall of 1998 he moved on to the Newmarket Stingrays Swim Club as the Head Age Group Coach a position he held until the summer of 2013.

Educated at the University of Cincinnati, where he was elected as men’s captain for the swim team his junior and senior year. He was also a two time Most Valuable Player on his team and the recipient of the Jimmy Nippert Award in 1987 for the top senior male student athlete at University of Cincinnati. He is also a certified level 3 coach and still honoring an Ontario College of Teachers certificate. As well he is recognized as a ChPC (chartered Professional Coach) with the Coaching Association of Canada.

Kim Inglis-Clarke

Operations Manager, Coach

Kim brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to her management position. Her vast experience is based in coaching. She has NCCP 3 certification and is currently pursuing her officiating credentials. She started coaching in 1991 for the North Bay Y Titans. She continued her coaching career for Laurentian University Swim Club where she apprenticed under Dr. Jeno Tihanyi and other talented head coaches. After graduating with honors in Health & Physical Education in 1998 she became the Head Coach for the Valley East Waves.

In 2000 she joined the COBRA Swim Club where she held numerous coaching positions & was essential in the development of COBRA’s Jr Swim Club & Board of Education programs in Brampton. Her coaching successes include numerous Provincial medalists & finalists; provincial tour teams and record holders. This experience combined with her knowledge of the inner workings of the sport make her role as Operations Manager integral to the success of our organization.

Tony Cowx

Squad 2

Tony has been involved in swimming since he was 6 years old. He was a member competing over 20 seasons for clubs in Welland, Niagara Falls, St. Thomas, St. Catharines (Varsity and club), and finally with COBRA Masters. Tony began coaching with COBRA in 2003, certified NCCP Level 2. He is a graduate of Brock University with a BSc in Mathematics(2002). His swimmers have won numerous Provincial and Canadian Age Group Championship medals. In 2008-09 he was awarded by OSCA as the 12 & Under female Coach of the Year. Surprisingly, he will begin his 15th season coaching at COBRA.

Jorge Neves

Squad 3 & Squad 4

Jorge has been involved with swimming since the age of 10 when he started competing in Portugal. He developed to become a National record holder and National Champion during his swimming career. He started his coaching career in 1988 at the Etobicoke Swim Club and in 1990; he went to York swim club where he coached until June 2000. He produced several finalists / medalists at provincial championships and helped develop swimmers that went ahead to receive swimming scholarships and others that reached levels as far as the Commonwealth games.

Jorge took a sabbatical for 9 years to spend more quality time with his wife and son. During the 2009 / 10 season, he volunteered to help Tony Cowx coach the Squad 2 group

 

Ian Roopnarine

Squad 5, Olympic Way, Assistant Office Administrator

Ian joined the COBRA team in 2002 where he has since held numerous coaching positions from pre-competitive to competitive to masters swimming. He has seen success at different levels of the sport. He has had many swimmers qualify for Regional, Provincial, Age Group National championships, and Para Olympic Trials. He believes his expertise and personality is best suited instilling fundamental swimming skills in our youngest athletes. He currently oversees our Olympic Way Program and coaches the Olympic Way groups. He is committed to the improvement of each and every athlete. Ian is NCCP Level 1 certified.

As well as coaching, Ian is responsible for COBRA’s non-competitive programming. As COBRA’s Pre-competitive Coordinator he facilitates and schedules programming such as community rentals, board of education lessons, Teen Aqua and our successful COBRA Jr. Swim Program. He is instrumental in the development of leadership programs for our swimmers, instructors & lifeguards.

Taylor Young

Olympic Way, JSC Supervisor 

Taylor Young has been a part of COBRA Swim Club as an athlete, instructor, and supervisor for over 8 years. She coaches Olympic Way and believes great technique will always equal great swimming. Working with all ages in Olympic way level and Squad programs has made her a highly valued asset to the COBRA staff. She is an integral part of the COBRA Jr. Swim Club program and can often be found on deck supervising it. She works very closely with JSC instructors and assistant instructors to maintain their education and qualifications.

Austin Learning

Olympic Way, JSC Lifeguard 

Austin Learning has been a part of the COBRA Swim Club as both an athlete and instructor. Coach Austin has swum at the Regional, Provincial, and age group National level throughout his career. He has joined the coaching staff as an Olympic Way coach and is determined to produce great swimmers dedicated to the sport.

Nathalie Worden

Office Administrator

Nathalie Worden has been COBRA’s office administrator for 9 years and brings a wealth of experience and expertise to her position.
