COBRA Swim Club Competitive Level Guidelines

National Squad 

A high performance program for high school students that encourages each athlete to reach his or her full potential.  Main emphasis is on advanced technical development, quality water & dry land training and the ability to take control of one’s life as a student athlete.  Full commitment to the training and competition schedule, including local, Provincial, National and International meets and academic excellence is expected of all athletes at this level.

Prerequisite: Athletes who have shown the ability and commitment towards National level swimming.  Head Coach will make the final decision on entry into this group.

Pathway:        Secondary Education scholarships, Provincial and National Teams

 

Provincal Squad

This is a high performance age group program for grade 8 and 9 students encouraging each athlete to reach his or her potential.  Main focus is on the development of high level skills in all four strokes, learning how to train at a high level and the ability to take control on one’s life as a student athlete.  Commitment to the training (dry & wet) and competition schedule, including Provincial, and Jr. National meets and academic excellence is expected of all athletes at this level.

Prerequisite: Athletes who have shown the ability and commitment towards Provincial and National age group level swimming.

Pathway:  National 

 

Festival Group 

This is a high performance age group program for grade 6 and 7 students encouraging each athlete to reach his or her potential.  Main focus is on the development of high level skills in all four strokes, learning how to train at a high level and the ability to take control on one’s life as a student athlete.  Commitment to the training (dry & wet) and competition schedule, including Festival, and Provincial meets and academic excellence is expected of all athletes at this level.

Prerequisite: Athletes who have shown the ability and commitment towards Regional and Festival (provincial) age group level swimming.

Regional Blue/Yellow

This group is for student athletes who are now willing to commit to a more demanding age group program that trains 7 hours per week.  Each athlete will have the opportunity and will be encouraged to each his or her potential.  Main focus is on the development of good skills in all for strokes, learning how to train, and strive to be a responsible student athlete. Commitment to the training and competition schedule including, Provincial, National Age Group meet and academic excellence.

 

 

 

Development Gold

This group is for competitive swimmers who have demonstrated a good skill level in multiple strokes and are now willing to commit to the training program of 4 sessions per week.  Each athlete will have the opportunity and will be encouraged to reach his or her potential. Main focus at this level is on more progressive skill development in all four strokes and the introduction to more training, race tactics, and more advanced competitions at the local level.

Prerequisite:  Intro Blue/White.  Head Coach will make the final decision on entry into this group.

Pathway:        Regional Yellow/ Regional Blue/ Festival

 

 

 


Intro Navy/White – 3 sessions
 

Young swimmers are invited into this novice competitive program from our Jr. Swim Club and tryouts we conduct.  Coaches’ focus on skill development, proper technique of all 4 strokes including kicking, pulling, body position and the introduction of competition.  Training program includes 3 x 60 min sessions and participation in local swim meets (one a month).

Prerequisite:  COBRA Jr. Swim Club & try-outs (based on ability & birth year)

Pathway:        Development Gold/Regional Yellow/Regional Blue

 

 

Group Placement

Placement is at the discretion of the coaching staff and is based on the criteria of each group. Factors such as commitment, performance, age, ability to train, attitude, technique and coachability are all taken into consideration for each athlete’s placement. Please be conscious that the coaching staff carefully considers all of the above before placing a swimmer into a specific training group.

Please note that a swimmer will not be permitted to divide their practices between two or more groups for convenience or location of time.

Should an athlete be placed in a group and is not meeting the requirements and demands of that particular group, he or she may be moved to an alternative group at the discretion of the Head Coach and staff.

 

Jr. Swim Club

JSC is an exciting program teaching children the fundamental skills of swimming and an introduction to the sport of competitive swimming.

Prerequisite:  municipal or private swimming lesson experience.

Pathway:        Intro Blue, Intro White or Teen Aqua

 

 

 

Brampton COBRA Masters

This program will provide adults an opportunity to improve physical fitness, receive regular coaching and stroke improvement, to attend swim meets and participate in social activities.  Age:  18 & over experience swimmers and triathletes.
