The Campbell River Killer Whales Swim Club (CRKW) is a non-profit organization headed by a professional coach staff and run by a volunteer parent run Board of Directors. It is supported through membership fees, fundraising and the financial support of the Province of British Columbia.
The CRKW swim club has been in operation since 1974 and was incorporated in 1986. CRKW is an age group swim club and operates from September to June of each year, with some swimmers swimming right through till August.
Since 1974, many swimmers have had the opportunity to improve their swimming skills as well as participate in regional, provincial and national competitions.
CRKW has produced many successful national level swimmers, most recently CRKW has had two swimmers progress onto the National team. Alec Page qualified for the 2012 Olympic games in London and Mackenzie Padington qualified for the 2017 World Championships and the 2018 Pan Pacific Championships.
Who We Are
Our club membership has traditionally included swimmers from the age of 4-70 who live in the Campbell River area but with some who travel in from Quadra Island and the Strathcona Regional District. These athletes range in ability level to swimmers taking their first strokes to national level swimmers as well as adults looking to stay in the sport
We run three programs throughout the seasons, both of which are overseen by our Head Coach Jim Campbell and Assistant Head Coach Sarah MacDonald. The are our “I Can Swim” Swim School, the CRKW Swim Club, and the Master program
Where We Train
Our swim club trains out of the Strathcona Gardens Recreation Complex which is located at 222 South Dogwood Street, Campbell River. There is a 6 lane, 25 meter pool and a fully equipped weight room facility. Please look at the programs tab to look into individual groups
It has long been recognized, that competitive swimming, and the countless hours of practice it ultimately requires, is one of the healthiest activities for the human body. In addition those same hours of conditioning and dedication mold young minds and spirit into purposeful and determined adults, well equipped for the world they will enter. The Campbell River Killer Whales Swim Club’s Philosophy is:
- To nurture the whole child at every age and realizing that each one is different, allow each to develop as far as their dreams, talents and efforts will take them.
- To provide a level of coaching that will lead the development of world-class swimmers, should they desire, while at the same time allowing beginner swimmers to develop character, self-confidence and a strong work ethic in an atmosphere of caring and consideration for the individual and the team.
- To provide the swimmers the opportunity to learn sportsmanship while being part of a supportive team that fosters a positive environment
- To provide the community and the swimming world with individuals who are becoming the best they can be – as individuals, students, citizens and athletes.
