WE ALL NEED EACH OTHER... SELKIRKS ARE A PARENT-RUN CLUB!
Volunteer Commitment Expecations:
Active family involvement. As a non-profit organization, the Selkirks Swim Club relies heavily on the efforts of volunteers. The statement “commitment, teamwork and excellence are embraced” applies to the entire team, even those working behind the scenes to ensure a strong and successful club. Families are encouraged to be actively involved. The existence of a strong culture of volunteerism is something that the BC government considers when it decides the level of gaming support it will provide to the club.
There are many volunteer roles that are available and the higher the level of family participation from the membership the more successful the club will be.
Each season the club hosts at least one major swim meet and multiple other fund raising and social events. To ensure success we need every member to participate. Please help us develop our Selkirk pride and at the same time work to keep our costs down.
How will volunteering benefit my child? Besides showing your child that you care support their interest in swimming, working at our swim meet and fundraising events helps to offset the funds necessary to run the club (ie. lower fees!).
Can other members of my family volunteer? Yes, we love to have Aunts, Uncles, Grandparents and Friends helping out!
FUNDRAISING INITIATIVES, 2019 - 2020
Askews Gift Cards: ONGOING! 7% of sales goes directly to club. Buy as you go. Presell or purchase and resell. This is a simple way of turning your family's regular, ongoing purchases into fundraising for the club.
Panago Pizza Cards: FALL AND SPRING. Panago donates medium pizza coupons to the club, we get to resell them for a profit!
Dinner and a Movie Rafffle: FALL FUNDRAISER. This popular raffle includes five $100 gift certificates for five restaurants, plus ten Salmar theatre movie passes. Only 700 tickets are printed, and each familiy is expected to sell at least one book.
Swim - a - thon: FEBRUARY 1, 2020. This exciting event involves the whole club. Each swimmer commits to a distance they will swim during the one hour Swim-a-thon, and seeks pledges to support their effort. This is a convenient way for grandparents and other relatives to support swimmers, especially if they don't live nearby. After the kids get out of the water and shake themselves off, a fun pancake breakfast is enjoyed by all! Several parent volunteers are required to host this popular event.
Selkirk's Regional Winter A Championship Meet: FEBRUARY 18, 19, and MARCH 1, 2020. This is the largest event the Selkirks host during the season. "All hands on deck" is the mantra! Setup, takedown, feeding people, awards, timing, announcing, officials, communications, technical support are all areas of support needed. Please come out to the meet committee meetings to see how you can be involved.
DeMilles Delicious Oranges: Held in JANUARY, this delicious fundraiser was a huge success last year. Kids sell bags of oranges to their friends and neighbours. The kids get together and bag the oranges and deliver them throughout the community. A fun and healthy fundraiser. We are hoping to double our sales this year!
Mothers Day Plants: APRIL - MAY. The first year for this fundraiser will involve selling prepotted hanging baskets to be delivered in time for Mother's Day!
PLEASE BRING YOUR IDEAS AND ENERGY TO A FUNDRAISING COMMITTEE! WE MEET ON A REGULAR BASIS AND ARE ALWAYS SEEKING NEW PEOPLE TO SHARE THE WORK AND THE FUN. CONTACT RHONDA SKOFTEBY AT firstname.lastname@example.org FOR MORE INFORMATION OR TO GET INVOLVED.
