Olympic Way Black Program


Olympic Way Black is the fourth level of programming in our swim club. Here swimmers are able to swim the all the four competitive swim strokes well for a goal time of 3:30.00 for 200 IM, progressing to longer distances. The main focus in this level is improving athlete's ability to swim the four competitive strokes as well as advance their fitness level. These swimmers also continue to refine the competitive starts and turns for each of the four strokes. The concept of training is advanced upon from the concepts taught at the OW White level.

Our objective for the swimmers in this group is to continue the FUN aspect in every practice session started at the grassroots level. We also advance each swimmer's stroke technique, swimming speed, and overall fitness.


  • Completed all lessons at local pool and 10 years or under
  • I Can Swim Stage 3
  • Completion of Olympic Way White program
  • Minimum age 8 to maximum of 11
  • or an assessment from the Hyack coach

Swimmers’ Commitment and Goals:
1. Attend all practices.
2. Attend as many of the camps, Novice or other meets, and social events as possible. There is usually 1 meet every 4-5 weeks.
3. Have Fun!
4. Aim for 3:20.00 200 IM.

Team Gear and Equipment Requirements:
Practice: Swimsuit (boys – jammers or briefs, no shorts), goggles, cap (especially girls with long hair), flippers, pull buoy, athletic shoes and clothes for dry-land.
Competition: Hyack Team Suit, Hyack Team T-shirt, Hyack Cap, Team ‘Hoodie’ or Sweat suit encouraged.

Parents’ Commitment:
1. Arrange to have your swimmer attend all practices and as many of the other offered camps and events as possible.
2. Contact your coach to let them know if your swimmer may miss a practice or event. 
3. Stay informed by reading and responding to: emails, website, bulletin board, and as always talking with your child’s coach.
4. Parent Participation Program continues. Assist with timing at mini-meets, get involved with other events through the year.

Practice Info:
 4x 1 ¼ or 1 ½ hour sessions per week (15-30 minutes dry-land, 60 - 75 minutes in water)
There are ‘twin’ groups operating at each pool, each with a couple of different session day and time options by age. Both pool programs will get together for training on Saturdays at CCAC.  Special camps, meets, and social events are offered which will see the groups combine at one pool or the other.
