Haney Seahorse Swim Club Groups

The Haney Seahorse Swim Club aims to offer quality coaching and training for young athletes through our multi-level programs. The ultimate goal of the club is to have our athletes compete at age group and senior level competitions.  The healthy growth and development of our athletes is our top priority. Through dedicated training as well as participation in local, provincial and national competitions our swimmers gain the full sense of achievement and enjoyment that the sport of swimming can provide.

The Haney Seahorse Swim Club is made up of three components:

  1. 1)  Junior Program; ages 6 – 11

  2. 2)  Youth Program; ages 10 – 13

  3. 3)  Senior Program; ages 13 – 18 and Masters (adults)

***When the coaches feel that a swimmer has developed to the point where they may need to progress to the next group we will inform the family. This will involve a change in commitment and requirements. Swimmers are not obligated to move groups, but progression is encouraged.

Junior Program:

Our Junior program is designed for our younger athletes, aged 6 to 10. There are three groups within this Program aimed at different levels of swimmers. This program is meant to introduce young children to the sport of swimming and both the competitive and fitness elements that are involved. We will teach these swimmers proper technique and skills in all 4 competitive strokes to build a base for a long and fulfilling career in the sport. At this level swimmer have the opportunity to compete in our club Mini Meets and Pass Meets.

Bronze: This is our first swimming level aimed at our newest swimmers. The Bronze group offers two practice sessions a week. The swimmers will learn to swim all four competitive strokes, Butterfly, Breaststroke, Backstroke and Freestyle proficiently; with an introduction to starts and turns. At this level swimmers can compete at our club Mini Meets. Once they are able to swim full lengths of Freestyle, Backstroke and Kick without assistance they are able to compete in Pass Meets. Swimmers are required to have proper bathing suit, goggles and cap, as well as their own kickboard.

2 hours of practice time per week (Option 1 = Tuesday/Thursday; Option 2 = Monday/Friday)

 

Silver: This is our second swimming level, primarily aimed at new swimmers between ages 8-10. The Silver group offers the swimmers a chance to train three times a week. The swimmers will learn to swim all four competitive strokes, Butterfly, Breaststroke, Backstroke and Freestyle proficiently; with an introduction to starts and turns. At this level competition is highly encouraged.  Swimmers will be able to compete in both Mini Meets and Pass Meets. Swimmers are required to have proper bathing suit, goggles and cap, as well as their own kickboard.

3 hours of practice time per week (Tue/Wed/Thur)

 

Gold: This is our top level Junior group, aimed at younger swimmers who have already achieved proficiency in all 4 strokes. It offers the swimmers a chance to train five times a week. They will work to improve all four competitive strokes, as well as learn more advanced training principles. Swimmers compete at Pass Meets and work toward the achievement of their Regional Time Standards (LMR Times). Swimmers in the Gold group are expected to maintain an attendance of 70% or above and are expected to compete regularly (minimum once per month). Swimmers are required to have proper bathing suit, goggles and cap, as well as their own kickboard.

5 hours of practice time per week; plus additional dryland training.

 

Youth Program:

The Youth component of our club is for swimmers ages 9 – 13 years old. There are 2 groups within the Youth program, each aimed at swimmers of different abilities and experience. This level of swimming is vital in teaching swimmers proper training habits and exposing them to regular competition.

Youth 1: This is the first level in our Youth program. It is geared towards athletes who may be newer to the sport of swimming or those working towards their LMR time standard. This group will practice 4 times a week and will work to improve all elements of the sport. Competition is highly recommended at this level and swimmers will compete at Pass Meets or LMR meets (regional level). 

Required Equipment: proper bathing suit, goggles and cap, as well as their own kickboard.

 

Youth 2: This is the second level within the Youth program. Swimmers in this group will have their LMR time standards and are working towards their AA and AAA Times. The focus of this group is to Learn to Train at a higher standard. This group will practice 5 times a week, with additional dryland training. Swimmers are expected to maintain a 75% attendance and above.

Required Equipment: Fins, snorkel, band.

 

Senior Program:

This is the component of our club aimed at high school aged swimmers 13 and over. It features both competitive group and a non-competitive groups. We also offer a masters group for adult athletes.

Senior Comp: Our Senior competitive group is designed for experienced and competitive swimmers, aged 13 and over. This group is meant for swimmers at the LMR level. Training includes 11 hours of swim training a week, plus strength training and recovery work. Swimmers must also attend swim meets and are required to maintain 75% attendance and above.

Required Equipment: Fins, Snorkel, Band, Pull-Buoy (Kick board encouraged).

 

Senior Comp+: This is our second level of Senior competitive for swimmers aged 13 and over who are at the 'AA' time standard and above. Training includes 14 hours of swim training per week, plus strength training and recovery work. Swimmers must also attend swim meets and are required to maintain 80% attendance and above.

Required Equipment: Fins, Snorkel, Band, Pull-Buoy (Kick board encouraged).

 

Senior Fit: For high school aged swimmer who wish to participate in the sport of swimming without the commitment level of a higher group. Swimmers are not expected to attend swim meets, although they are encouraged. Swimmers are expected to attend regular practices to maintain their spot in the group. Swimmers will train 4 hours per week.

 

Masters: Ages 19+; We offer three morning sessions a week. The group focuses on Freestyle technique and fitness. Great for Tri-athletes and Masters swimming athletes looking for that extra push they get from being part of a group and having a coach! 

 

* Cost are training fees only. All families are also subject to a club registration fee, insurance charge and Parent Participation fee.
