2018-2019 Swim Program Levels & Costs

KBM uses the pool located at Queen's University Athletic and Recreation Centre (Queen's) and the pool located at Artillery Park Aquatic Centre (APAC) to conduct training practices.  Click here for pool info.

Introductory & Fitness Programs

These groups are based on the 2nd (Fundamentals) stage of Swimming Canada's Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) model, (refer to page 24).

Mini-Marlins 1  (once-a-week)          Roster: MM1

Full Season: $450 plus governing body fee
Half Season1: $250 plus governing body fee

Weekly Swim Training: Option for Tue or Thu 4:15-5:00 pm
First Practice: Thur Sep 20 or Tue Sep 25
Pool: APAC

Description: This Mini-Marlin program is designed to introduce the skills required for all four competitive strokes. Open to swimmers able to complete 25m of some form of freestyle, 25m of some form of backstroke, and be able to kick on a kickboard. Skills introduced will be presented in a fun and interactive learning environment with a focus on the enjoyment of swimming. Choose either the Tuesday or Thursday class. Typical age is 6-8 years old

1 Half seasons run Sep 20 - Dec 13 and Jan 10 - Apr 7

 Introduction to Competitive Swimming          Roster: ICSi

Full Season: $375 plus governing body fee

Description: Running most Sundays at Queens - this program offers an opportunity for younger swimmers that can't swim during the week, older swimmers curious about the sport and returning swimmers ready for MM2 but only able to commit to one swim a week. We are in a position to cover a wider range of age groups using our senior swimmers as Instructors when needed to provide mentoring to similarly aged swimmers.

1 Half seasons run Sep 9  - Dec 9 and Jan 13 - Apr 7

Mini-Marlins 2  (twice-a-week)          Roster: MM2 

Full Season: $700 plus governing body fee
Half Season2: $375 plus governing body

Description: Same as the MM1 program, but with 2 swims per week.

A post-season session including extra training and participation in our year-end meet may be available.

Description:  Training twice a week from September to the first week of April  (with breaks corresponding to school holidays), Those who are ready can register for local meets.  Typical age is 8-9.

Senior Development  (three times a week)          Roster: SD 

Full Season: $1,250 plus governing body fee

Weekly Swim Training: Tue, Thu  5:00-6:00 pm and Fri 3:15-4:15

Pool: Queen's

Description: This program is designed for athletes aged 13 and over who are still developing their skills and abilities in swimming. Swimming 3 times a week, they have the opportunity but are not required, to compete at local area meets. Practices will run from September until mid April. This program is loosely based on Stage 7 (Active for life) in the Long Term Athlete Development Model (LTAD) - see page 34   However, it can also be used a stepping stone for a younger athlete without swimming experience hoping to make the transition to competitive swimming

Junior Development          Roster: JD 

Full Season: $1,440 plus governing body fee

Weekly Swim Training: Mon 5-6 pm APAC, Wed 4-5 pm APAC, Fri 4:30-6:00 pm Queens
First Practice: Mon Sep 17, 2018

Description: This program is designed for athletes aged 8-12 who are still developing their skills and abilities in swimming. They have the opportunity to compete at local area meets and occasionally beyond. Practices will run until mid-June. Focusing on the fundamentals of competitive swimming, including improving all 4 strokes, following a practice plan, and using a pace clock. These swimmers are beginning Stage 3 (Learn to Train) in Swimming Canada's Long Term Athlete Development Model (LTAD) - see page 26   

Junior Development (Advanced)          Roster: JD(adv) 

Full Season: $1,440 plus governing body fee

Weekly Swim Training:  Mon 4-5 pm APAC, Wed 5-6 pm APAC, Fri 4:30-6:00 pm Queens
First Practice: Mon Sep 17, 2018

Description: This program is designed for athletes aged 8-12 who, having developed the skills of following a practice and reading a pace clock continue to refine their skills and can swim all 4 strokes legally with proper turns and dolphin kicks off all wall. Learning to be responsible for their own equipment and they will learn how to contribute to the team. These swimmers compete regularly and are in Stage 3 (Learn to Train) in Swimming Canada's Long Term Athlete Development Model (LTAD) - see page 26

Full Season: $1,770 plus governing body fee

Weekly Swim Training: Mon and Wed 4:30-6 pm at Queens,
Fri 4:00-5:30 pm & Sat 7:30-9:00 am at APAC

Description: This program is designed to lead to mastery of Stage 3 (Learn to Train) in Swimming Canada's Long Term Athlete Development Model (LTAD) - see page 26 and getting ready for Stage 4 (Train to train) pg 28

Weekly Dryland Training:  Conditioning and mobility Wed 5:00-6: 00 pm at Queens starting Sept 19.

Description: Competitive athletes ages 12-15 who have demonstrated the ability and desire to train at competitive levels 5 times per week plus dryland. These swimmers will attend local, regional and provincial level meets. These athletes are firmly in Stage 4 (Train to Train)  of Swimming Canada's Long Term Athlete Development Model (LTAD) - see page 28  

Senior          Roster: S 

Full Season: $2,140 plus governing body fee

Weekly Swim Training: Mon 6-7:30, Tues 3-5 pm, Wed 3:15-4:45 or Thur 6-7:30 am. Fri 6:00-7:30 am, Sat 8-9:30 am
First Practice: Thu Sep 6, 2018
Pool: Queen’s
Dryland Training: Foundry Athletics  Monday 3:15-4:15 pm, Wed 6:15-7:15 am, Sat 10-11 2-3 weeks on, 1-2 weeks off

Description: Competitive athletes ages 14 and over with the ability and desire to train intensely at competitive levels 5 times per week plus optional dryland. These swimmers will attend both local, regional level meets as well as invitational meets across the province.. These athletes are typically following Stage 5 (Train to Compete) of Swimming Canada's Long Term Athlete Development Model (LTAD) - see page 30. but, depending on their age and other sport priorities, may be in Stage 7 (Active for Life)  

Senior Performance          Roster: SP 

Full Season: $2,640 plus governing body fee

Weekly Swim Training: Mon 6-7:30, Tues 6-7:30 am & 3-5 pm, Wed 3:15-4:45, 
Thur 6-7:30 am & 3:30-5 pm, Fri 6:00-7:30 am, Sat 8-9:30 am

Pool: Queen’s 
Dryland Training: Foundry Athletics Monday 3:15-4:15 pm, Wed 6:15-7:15 am, Sat 10-11 2-3 weeks on, 1-2 weeks off

Description: Training 6 to 11 times a week, swimming is a high priority for swimmers in this group. In addition to planning activities around workouts and competitions, they will need to schedule "downtime" so that they can adequately recover and continue to improve. These athletes are following Stage 6 (Train to Compete) and progressing to Stage 7 Compete to Win in  Swimming Canada's Long Term Athlete Development Model (LTAD) - see page 30 & 32.

Varsity/Alumni

Varsity/Alumni - Varsity Season          Roster: VAVS

Fee: $100

Description: We are pleased to offer a limited number of spots to our University age swimmers. For a flat $100 fee, swimmers can drop in at any time throughout the entire varsity season and train with KBM.  Any swimmers looking to train and compete with us should communicate their training and competition plans with the head coach early and often.

Varsity/Alumni - Post-Varsity Season          Roster: VAPV

Fee: $300 (includes any and all meet entry fees)

Description: We are pleased to offer a limited number of spots to our University age swimmers. For $300, alumni swimmers can continue to train past the varsity season, with free entry into any and all meets KBM enters during that period.  Swimmers looking to train and compete with us should communicate their training and competition plans with the head coach early and often.
