Newsletter 2013-14 Issue 26
The first shutdown schedule has been re-posted on the LAC website under the “schedule” tab. There have been some changes to the schedule due to programming changes made by Robarts. This schedule runs from April 7 – May 31. Some weekend workouts will change to Thames in May when the pool becomes available.
We are about to embark on an exciting and challenging three months, with the Canada Games Aquatic Centre closing and us moving our programs to pools all over the city. There are always opportunities inside challenges and we have 3 opportunities before us: 1) when CGAC re-opens we will have a renewed, refreshed, refurbished facility to enjoy 2) we will get to use different pools across the city and can show the staff and patrons at these pools what a classy, responsible, respectful organization we are and 3) we will get to practice a lot more turns because we'll be doing all of our swimming (until June anyway) in 25m pools. Two reminders on this last opportunity: 1) the best time to practice good turn technique is ALL THE TIME, every single day, not just on the those occasions when we do a set specifically aimed at turns. The coaches always laugh when they hear: "When are we going to practice turns?" Because the answer is: "Every single day." You have done hundreds and hundreds (if not thousands) of turns - do them well when you are at the end of a hard, hard set and you will do them well at the end of your race. Which leads to 2) There's a saying you've all heard before: practice makes perfect. Well, that's not exactly accurate. A more accurate statement is: PRACTICE MAKES PERMANENT. So...whatever you are doing in practice is what you are going to do in competition. Make sure you are attending with diligence and purpose to all of the tiny details in your training...they will add up to make a BIG difference later on!
CONGRATULATIONS to Jessica, Maggie, Aitana, Jenna, Dominic, Aiden and Brandon for their selection to, and participation in, a Regional Training Day at Western University last Saturday.

EASTERN CANADIAN TRI-MEET – Apr 19
On April 19th (Easter Saturday) LAC will host the Eastern Canadian Tri-Meet at the Western pool. This competition features the top 24 age group swimmers from each of Ontario, Quebec and the Atlantic provinces. We are in need of both minor officials (timers, stoke and turn judges) and senior officials to volunteer for the meet. This is a one day meet with a morning and afternoon timed final session, showcasing some very fast swimming. Each session should be approximately 3 hours in length, or less. This meet is ideal for high school students looking to earn their volunteer hours. Sign up is now available on the LAC web site. Senior officials please sign up now through the OSOA web site.
For further information please contact Minor Officials Coordinator Mike Joudrey at email@example.com or Paul Cappa, Meet Manager at firstname.lastname@example.org.
HOLLANDIA INVITATIONAL – MAY 9 – 11
This meet takes place at WSRC (Western) and all LAC swimmers are invited to attend. This meet is now posted on the LAC website and is available for sign up.
