This is the final week of our April-May schedule - great job making it work everyone! The June and July schedules are posted on the LAC website. All schedules are subject to change based on pool availability.

If you take a peek at our meet schedule below you will realize we are about to embark on the busiest time of our entire year from a competition standpoint. LAC'ers will be racing every weekend except one between next weekend's 13&Over WOSA Champs and the end of the year. So it's a good time to review the standard LAC swim meet protocol:

1) great team spirit (LOUD & PROUD!) - team BATHING cap and shirt, BOOMING voice in the team cheer, support for your teammates ALWAYS but especially every time you see them in a close race; 2) punctuality - at the beginning of each session look your coach in the eye and say "Hi Coach, I'm here!"  At the end of each session look your coach in the eye and ask: "I think I'm done Coach, what time do you want me here for the next session?"  3) pre- and post-swim reporting - the last person you see before your swim? your coach. The first person you see after your swim? your coach.  4) good warm-up habits - get in on time, complete the entire warm-up, and ask your coach if there's anything they want to see before you finish.  A good warm-up will take between 30-45mins (take your time), and it should finish no earlier than 30-40mins before your first swim  5) fuelling for performance - good eating and hydration habits, both at and away from the pool, are essential: doesn't matter how big the engine is...only with proper and ample fuel will you perform to your potential.  6) finally, RACE SMART - RACE TOUGH - HAVE FUN! Take one positive from each swim, and one area for improvement, then on to the next one! GO LAC GO!

The LAC Board of Directors extends an invitation to all LAC parents to attend the upcoming Annual General Meeting of the Club. The AGM will be held on Monday, June 23, 2014 beginning at 7.30 pm at the Medway (Ray Lanctin) Arena in the upper level meeting room. Attendance is not mandatory; however, we encourage at least one member of each swim family to attend this very informative evening.

Further information including a copy of the Minutes from the 2013 AGM and a proxy for 2014 will be posted on the website under the Events tab.

If you have any questions please contact me at

WOSA 12 and Under Champs

LAC is hosting this meet on June 14-15. Sign-ups will be posted soon for minor officials. If you are qualified you can sign up for senior official positions now using your OSOA.CA account.

Stay tuned on date and location for the next clinic. A reminder that clinics may also be taken online - if you need information about online clinics email me.

Awards Committee

Lianne Wong has been in charge of awards for a few years now and has done a fantastic job. Thanks Lianne! Lianne will be retiring from this role at the end of the season and we need a replacement. We have already had one person express interest but it would be better if the job could be run by committee and that way it does not always have to be the same person responsible for awards at every meet. If anyone would be interested in sharing responsibility for providing staffing for awards and the other duties that go with this role please let me know and I can arrange for you to work a session with Lianne at one of our two remaining meets so you can see and hear what is involved. It is a pretty good way to earn session credits but there are some minor duties that happen away from the meets as well.

Introduction to Electronics Operator

So far I have introduced Clerk of Course, Chief Finish Judge, and Chief Timekeeper. This week I will introduce Electronics Operator. Remember this is a very brief outline of the usual duties, although in this case there is not much more to it.

Electronics Operator – If you have been at our meets prior to this year you will have noticed that we have two electronics stations, one in the timer booth on the east shallow end wall and the other on a stand on the deck at the deep end. The electronics operator is stationed in front of a computer with a nice graphical interface. At the start of the session you click on the first event and the first heat. When the race is complete you accept the times and click the arrow the takes you to the next heat. A results report will print for the heat that just completed. The chief finish judge will collect that report from you. You do this until the end of the session. This is really simpler than operating a cell phone, there is no clinic to take as it is all on the job training from a mentor, and you get a session credit for having the best view in the house. Also, we recently replaced our electronic timekeeping equipment and most of the previous problems we experienced with meet interruptions have gone away. No more need to feel nervous. It is so easy!.. If you are interested then please email me and I will arrange for you to have a mentoring session to see if this is for you. Next week Starter.

If anyone has any questions about anything officiating related, please do not hesitate to contact me.
