Newsletter 2013-14 Issue 40

Congratulations to all of our Provincial Festival swimmers who ventured to Nepean this past weekend. It was a refreshing opportunity for our athletes to do some very fast short course racing to finish off the championship season.  After 2 days of tough racing, our 13 & unders finished the meet with an improvement rate of 83%. They took advantage of every turn and push-off put before them! After two days jam-packed full of racing, in our final relay of the meet, the boys 11 & under 4x100 FR team fought hard and finished fourth.

Special congratulations to those who achieved 100% PB's: Carter Buck, Sasha Goodreau, Tyrus Kalanyos, Alexander Pedda, and Leah Polito

CONGRATULATIONS to LAC's GRADUATING SWIMMERS! This year's graduating class is one of the largest in recent memory, and the entire LAC family should be proud of these 12 individuals who have been such an integral part of our team, and will be moving on to the next exciting chapters in their lives: Josie, Vincent, Sam G., Emma J., Elgar, Shayna, Nathan, Abigail, Nick, Andrew O'B., Seth, and Byung - you have ALL done a tremendous job of balancing your school commitments with the demands of our great sport, and you have all been great ambassadors, role models, teammates and performers for the London Aquatic Club. You are special people, because you are SWIMMERS! and you will experience many future successes because of the skill set and the mind set that you have developed through your swimming.

We are still collecting bell heat prizes! Great ideas include gift cards, towels, water bottles, flip flops, and candy!
Please drop off prizes to either Anthony or Mimi Prier (Age Group Orange) or any coaches and they will pass them along. Feel free to email or text me with any questions:

Attention Senior Swimmers

Each year LAC hosts the Masters Sunset Outdoor Swim Meet at Thames Pool following the Saturday afternoon session of the Paul Hauch meet.

In past years senior LAC swimmers have been gracious hosts and volunteered to time at the Sunset meet and offer encouragement to their elderly counterparts. This is a fun meet and great opportunity to watch many world, national, and provincial record holders in action. This year we expect some world records to be set at the meet.

It is also an opportunity for senior swimmers to give back and support their club, earn session credits for their families, and earn volunteer hours for school. Also, there is a BBQ following the meet.

We need your assistance.  Sign up is available on the LAC web site under the "Events" tab - Hauch Meet - Sessions 4c & 4d.

Thanks for supporting this event, and if you have any questions please contact me at

Paul Cappa, Meet Manager

The Dr. Paul Hauch Invitational is fast approaching and we are still looking for help in almost every category, but in particular with meet setup.  This is not the usual setup - we use the Dolphin system for timing which is easily installed.  The majority of the setup is in assembling tents and moving bleachers around. If you can come to help Friday morning, that would be greatly appreciated. The sign-ups for timing and strokes&turns are already posted with lots of spots still available. If you are already qualified or if you can take the online clinic for a level 2 job prior to the meet and want to give it a try, please sign-up using your OSOA account, or you can contact Alex Vanderkam at   If anyone needs information about the online clinics please let me know.

We need to increase our number of level two officials because many of our our current level two officials will soon not have swimmers with LAC anymore and we have a minimum requirement for level two officials from the membership. If you can do strokes&turns competently then you can do any of the other level two positions with a clinic, and little experience.  I would prefer that you step up and proactively volunteer to strive for level two in the upcoming season (and I need those volunteers in the next two weeks) but failing that, I will be contacting people personally until I have enough candidates to ensure compliancy at the end of next season so that LAC can continue to host meets.  If you are willing to help LAC in this way please email me.

If anyone has any questions about anything officiating related, please do not hesitate to contact me.

See you at Hauch!
