Newsletter 2013-14 Issue 42
Congratulations to everyone for some great racing and great spirit at the Hauch Meet. There was a lot of laughing, plenty of pb's and events raced for the first time, and even a few tears from those graduates of the LAC family who are moving on to the next chapter. For most of you Hauch signalled the end of the 2013-14 swim year. Enjoy some time away from the pool, have a safe and happy summer, and we look forward to seeing everyone in September.
Congratulations to first time Regional Championship qualifiers Liam Smith and Lily Buchacher.
Good luck to our swimmers competing at the National Championship meets: in Saskatoon at Senior Nationals are Vincent Cappa, Matt Kwatyra, Nathan Lethbridge, Matt Roman and Robert Wise. Competing at Age Group Nationals in Winnipeg will be Jessica Allen, David Armstrong, Vincent, Menley Langham, Maggie MacNeil, Nick Mitchell, Hayden Richardson, Aitana Robinson, Jenna Roman, Brandon Ryu and William Stewart. And extra good luck to Maggie and Jenna, who will be racing for Team East in the national East-West Dual Meet in Winnipeg following Age Group Nationals.
We'll leave you to enjoy your summer and think about your swimming goals for 2014-15 with this quote from T.Alan Armstrong: "Champions do not become champions when they win an event, but in the hours, days, weeks, months and YEARS they spend preparing. The victorious performance itself is merely the demonstration of their un-wavering championship character."
2014-15 SWIM SEASON
The Fall practice schedule will be posted to the website as soon as it is available. Everyone did a fantastic job of staying flexible and positive through this spring and summer with the CGAC shutdown. This fall will present even greater challenges, and the same spirit of understanding and cooperation will be essential to a smooth re-launch.
Swimmer registration letters will be sent out at the beginning of August. Should you have any questions about your child's 2014-15 group placement, you are encouraged to contact your swimmer's coach from this season after receipt of the registration letter.
DR.PAUL HAUCH MEET
Hello Swim Fans! I hope everyone enjoyed themselves this year and had a fantastic time. I am pleased that we once again had such fantastic weather (with a slight hiccup/scare on Sunday Morning!)
Hours upon hours of volunteer effort before, during and after, are required to make our hosted events successful - those of you who helped this weekend are true heroes (particularly those of you who signed up for one session and ended up staying the whole day, and even tearing down.) I would love to name everyone but it would take pages. I do have to name a few individuals though who helped keep me on track: Meet Referee Alex VanderKam who kept us on time during those longer sessions and was marking his 20th year at Hauch; Mark Lukings for helping answer any questions and being an all-round "gofer" for me; and last but not least Rose Bloch-Hansen who ran the office, making sure those results got out and we didn’t fall into chaos! 19 teams and 475 swimmers were in attendance, with just over 3400 swims.
There were 16 meet records broken – 3 by LAC swimmers: Josie Andres 16/o girls 50FL, Ellie Wong 14 year old girls 50FR, and our boys 9-10 Medley Relay team of Alex Lobo, Carter Buck, Colin Shearer and Isaac Hulet Gatt. Congratulations to all of our swimmers!
Again, I hope everyone enjoyed themselves as much as I did and is looking forward to some downtime before the start of next season. If anyone has any feedback or comments feel free to email me at email@example.com as I am currently scheduled to manage the meet again next year and am always looking for opportunities to improve it.
The banquet is still over 3 months away but before the season is over, it would be great for you to check your cameras, phones and computers for any great pictures from this season before they get deleted or forgotten about. If you have any pictures from this season you would like included in the banquet slide show this fall, please forward them to Kevin Ryan @ firstname.lastname@example.org. If the files are too large for email, please copy them to a disk or USB stick and arrange to deliver them to Kevin sometime through the summer.
If anyone has any questions about anything officiating related, please do not hesitate to contact me.
