Coaches Reports
A busy past weekend, with lots of great LAC racing in both Etobicoke and Tillsonburg.  The coaches saw many encouraging signs of future great performances, with many personal bests achieved and many events swum for the first time.  Good stroke technique, streamlining, starting and turning, racing smart and tough, and great team spirit were all in evidence.  While it is always good (and fun) to swim faster than you ever have before, an equally important lesson to learn is that not every swim is going to be a personal best - if you had a result that was a little bit short of what you expected, as long as you take away something good from each swim and something to improve upon, it has been a productive experience.  We will say it again: it can be a good race without being a personal best – you can be a winner without placing first. Your skill and fitness foundations can always be expanded - and there is plenty of time for that to happen. Now that we are back in our home training venue, with our training schedules returning to normal, we have the opportunity to really improve our fitness and skills.  The next time all of you race will be at CGAC, so make sure while you are working hard that you are paying lots of attention to the tiny details, particularly in the area of turns. Your turns are either a) an advantage that you refine and sharpen every day or b) a limiting factor that you don’t really think about. When you are racing in your “home” pool, no one should have better turns than you. So don’t wait for the practices when we isolate turn technique to work on your do hundreds of them every week, lots of opportunity to improve. Remember, there are always things to get better at, there will always be another swim meet, and each one of you is on your own path. NEVER BELIEVE YOU ARE THE BEST - ALWAYS BELIEVE YOU CAN BE THE BEST.

We are very excited to have John Leonard, Executive Director of the American Swim Coaches Association for the past 30 years, coming to London to provide an exclusive learning opportunity for our coaches, parents and swimmers. John is generally regarded around the world as one of the most well-known, respected and influential figures in competitive swimming, and he will be coming to London to share his views on the role of the parent in competitive swimming, and his expertise as an active age group coach in Fort Lauderdale, FL. On Fri.Nov.14 from 6-7:30pm in the upstairs meeting room at Medway Arena (beside CGAC) all parents are welcome to listen to John talk about the 10 most important things a swim parent should know. On Sat.Nov.15 and the morning of Sun.Nov.16, John will be leading the entire LAC coaching staff through an intensive workshop focused on delivering quality coaching to age group swimmers. We are thrilled to have John coming to London, and we are hopeful that as many of you as possible are available to listen to him share his experiences in the world of competitive swimming at all levels.

Nothers Fall Invitational
Job Signup with be available on the London Aquatic Club website this week, please check it out!!

If you have taken a classroom clinic or have worked at a meet but have not yet registered on OSOA.CA then please do so.  I cannot update your online record if you do not have an account.  If you log on to your LAC account and go to the Officials tab, there are instructions there on how to register.

I have now booked meeting rooms for clinics, all at the Canada Games Aquatic Centre.  Please sign up on the LAC web site.  I ran out of time and rooms so I will not be doing a clinic for Chief Finish Judge until after Nothers.  I chose this one to do later because it is the best one of the bunch to do online.  If you want to do this job at Nothers and need help with the online clinic then please contact me or look on the Officials tab on the LAC web site for full instructions.
URGENT – We have very few people in the club who have operated the Quantum Timing System.  We need some people to step forward and learn this very simple job.  If you have any level of comfort at all with computers i.e. you can turn one on and use a mouse, then you can do this job.  If you are willing, please let me know and I will arrange for you to mentor with someone.

Upcoming Officials Events
PARA Swimming Strokes and Turns Clinic: Saturday November 15 at Conestoga College in Kitchener.  This is an all day clinic, free of charge, and refreshments and lunch are provided. You can sign up for this using your OSOA account as explained on the Officials tab on the LAC web site.
Chief Timekeeper Clinic: Monday, November 10, 6:30 – 8:30 PM, CGAC Upper Level Meeting Room.
Level I Timekeeper Clinic: Thursday, November 13, 6:15 – 8:15 PM, CGAC Upper Level Meeting Room.
Clerk Of Course Clinic: Friday, November 14, 5:30 – 7:30 PM, CGAC Lower Level Meeting Room.
Starter Clinic: Saturday, November 15, 7:00 – 9:00 AM, CGAC Lower Level Meeting Room.
Strokes and Turns Clinic: Monday, November 17, 6:30 – 9:00 PM, CGAC Upper Level Meeting Room.
Nothers Fall Invitational: You can sign up for senior officials jobs at Nothers now using your account.  You must have taken the clinic to do any job except Timekeeper but as long as you are sure that you will take the clinic, in a class or online, prior to Nothers then you can sign up now.  Denise McDonald the Meet Referee for Nothers, would like anyone who wants a chance to learn a new Level II position to let her know ASAP and she will arrange to pair you with an experienced Senior official at Nothers for training and perhaps a session or two on your own. Again, you just need to be willing to take the clinic prior to Nothers.

Lord Elgin Staff PJ Drive:
Each year the Lord Elgin staff reach out to the community to help us give the gift of a new pair of pyjamas and a book for them to go home with at Christmas. I'm looking for your help, if you can donate a new pair of pyjamas (size 6-11) or a donation of your choosing it would be appreciated! We are hoping to help two classrooms through the donations of friends and families for a grade 1/2 class and a grade 4/5 class.  We are hoping to get 50 new sets of pj's for the kids (ages 6-11) for the holidays. For more details or to help with our pyjama drive please email me at

Thank you!
