Newsletter 2014-2015 Issue 11 December 2
Good luck to everyone racing this weekend at the LAC Time Trial and/or at Western University.
As we move through this competition phase it is important to take care of the “invisible” skills away from the pool that will help you maximize your potential for success. How well you’re eating and hydrating, how much sleep you’re getting, and how much relaxing and stretching you are doing will all play a factor in your “end-game” performances. These invisible skills, and how good you are at them, are a measure of your discipline. For our purposes the definition of discipline is “What you’re doing when no one is watching.” If you can be disciplined at the pool (doing your dolphin kicks underwater, turning at speed, stroking before breathing on your break-out strokes, finishing every repeat and every set better than you start it) and disciplined away from the pool, your chances for success are very good. And also remember, to paraphrase a U.S. president, “When you think you can, you are 80% there!” Race with confidence, trust your training, stay cool and calm, and have fun!

Congratulations to Karen Beacham who received her second sign-off for Chief Timekeeper at Nothers. That makes Karen our first new level II official for this season! We need a lot more! See below for clinics to help get you there.
The December Time Trial is this Saturday and we still require a few experienced Strokes and Turns officials. I have reopened the sign-up page and it will be open until Thursday at midnight. We could also use a Clerk of Course, a Referee and an Electronics operator. If you are interested in one of these jobs and are qualified then please sign-up using your OSOA.CA account as described in the Officials tab when you log on to this site or email Saad Aldin, the Meet Referee at email@example.com
If you have taken the Strokes and Turns Clinic and want to review before the Time Trial, there are review videos in the Officials tab when you sign on to the LAC web site.
I have been getting some requests, so I will be scheduling another Timekeeper clinic and a Strokes and Turns clinic in January, prior to the 12 and Under Celebration.
We are still in need of people who will strive for achieving level II as an official this season so I have arranged 4 more level II clinics as noted below. The sign-ups will be posted soon and the enrolment will be limited to 15 people in each clinic. If you are interested in achieving level II then this is a great opportunity to attend live clinics for these positions. To achieve level II you only need the clinic and the two deck sign-offs for ONE (1) of these positions (in addition to the clinics and sign-offs for Timer and Strokes and Turns) but the more that you attend the more options you will have when trying to get these jobs. There is only one of each of these jobs per starting end at each session. Of course you can volunteer at away meets as well!

Chief Finish Judge: Monday, December 8 – 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at CGAC, in the downstairs meeting room.
