Coaches Reports
Congratulations to everyone on some good results at last weekend's meets. As we leave the holidays in the rear-view mirror, it's time to look ahead to the busy February competition season. With Regionals, 13&Under Festival, and Provincials all on the horizon, there should be very little difficulty keeping yourselves motivated in your training and thinking about the small details in everything you do. It is called "mindfulness", and it is a good thing when it comes to honing your technique in practice. The opposite of "mindful" is "mindless". You may think "mindless" is a bad thing but, in reality, if you can be "mindful" in your practices it will allow you to be "mindless" in your races. The skills that you focused so hard on perfecting in practice will shine through without you having to even think about them when you race. And that is definitely a good thing!

Congratulations to: 1st time Regional Qualifier: Junsoo Pak

Another successful 12 and Under Celebration is behind us! Thanks to first time Meet Manager Steve Baarda, well-seasoned Alex Vanderkam, our Meet Referee, and to all of our officials and committees for jobs very well done! Special thanks to the Canteen crew for keeping us well fed and to the pool staff for their friendly professionalism in helping with set up and cleanup and for maintaining a safe and clean environment!

Don’t take a breath yet!  On February 7 and 8 we are hosting the Western Region Sting Meet. This is a two session single ended meet. It is a great opportunity for some people, who have recently taken clinics for new positions, to get some deck experience. In fact, this is the same weekend as the WOSA champs in Windsor so many of the more experienced officials that we have come to count on will not be available and we will be needing your help. I am the Meet Referee for this meet. You can sign up for senior positions using your OSOA official’s account. You can find instructions on how to do this on LAC website in the Officials tab after you have signed in.

Speaking of WOSA Champs, if you are attending this meet with your swimmer, each team is expected to provide officials at each session of this meet. If you are there and could help out, this would be greatly appreciated by the meet management. They are mostly in need of Timers and ALL of you can do this.  Please contact either the Meet Referee, Carol McNiece – or the Minor Officials Coordinators, Teresa Tennant – or Linda Stanczak – to volunteer. I was speaking to Carol on the weekend and so far NO ONE from LAC has offered and the Meet Package clearly states that “By submitting entries for this meet, participating teams agree that they are required to provide 3 officials per session.  Teams not providing officials may not be allowed to swim during that session.”

I have had unprecedented interest in the online clinics this season! If anyone is interested in trying the online clinics, everything that you need to know about them, including the clinic keys, can be found in the Official’s tab when you log into the LAC site. You can take any and all of the clinics at any time but I advise you to do it as close to when you are going to try the job as possible so that you will remember the clinic when you have to do the job.

If you have any questions, please contact me via the following email address.

Message from the SC Regionals Meet Management
Hi All,

Just a few reminders about SC Regionals to be held in Windsor February 6-8. Please forward to your parents and officials.

1.    If any swimmer is interested in WOSA Merchandise - it needs to be ordered ahead of time and the deadline date is January 20, 2015. Parents/swimmers that would like to order can do so online at  and can pick up the ordered merchandise at the swim meet.

2.    All teams are required to have officials at each session. As per the Meet Package - by submitting entries for this meet all participating teams agree that they are required to provide 3 officials per session. Teams not providing officials may not be allowed to swim during that session.

Any questions, please feel free to ask.

Carol McNiece and Ben Balkwill - Meet Referee and Meet Manager
