Newsletter 2014-2015 Issue 21 February 17
CONGRATULATIONS to Maggie MacNeil on establishing 3 club records at the Orlando Arena Pro Swim Series event last weekend. It was certainly interesting and eye-opening to see the ages of some of the top-ranked competitors at this world class competition...many of them were in their mid to even late twenties, Canadian Audrey Lacroix is 31 years old and still going strong, there was a 42 year old woman who swam 1:12 for the 100BR, and many others ranging in age from 23-28 racing hard and having fun. It just underlines the fact that a competitive swimming career can be a long and gratifying one, that a big part of success is simply a matter of “hanging around”, and that everyone is on their own unique path. There was a 25 year old woman from Great Britain who, on the Saturday night of the meet (the last night) swam the 800FR at 6pm in the first event of the finals session, had one heat of 200IM to recover, then stood up again and swam the “A” final of the 200IM! Sometimes we need to have our perception of what’s really hard adjusted! It’s amazing what the body is capable of if the mind believes it! I read a great quote this morning – it said: A DREAM ONLY WORKS IF YOU DO! Make sure you have a dream, don’t be afraid to dream BIG, and work hard every single day to move yourself ever closer toward it.
GOOD LUCK to our swimmers competing at the Provincial 13&Under Festival this weekend at Etobicoke. GO LAC GO!

Did you know that LAC works bingo at the Lucky Days bingo hall once a month as a form of fundraising? The LAC bingo committee is in need of some new volunteers who can help us out on a regular basis. Working bingo requires that volunteers arrive at the bingo hall at approximately 4:30pm. We count and sell cards for the evening, and then help tidy up before heading home at about 10:00pm. Volunteers receive one session credit and $40.00 towards the family travel account for each bingo session worked. If you think this is something that you can do to support our club please contact Rhonda Springer at email@example.com. Our next bingo date is February 11 and we would love to have some new volunteers join us.
