Newsletter 2014-2015 Issue 23 March 3
CONGRATULATIONS to all LAC’ers who raced last weekend, whether in Brantford at Provincials or in Barrie at the Pentathlon - there were certainly plenty of exciting results.
We had the 11th largest team at Provincials, out of 81 participating clubs, and finished 14th overall in the team ranking. Combining our Festival swimmers with our Provincial swimmers, we had a total of 32 swimmers qualified to compete at the Provincial Championship level. One of our performance objectives from a coaching standpoint is to have 20% of our club membership competing at the provincial championship level...with 240 swimmers this means our goal is 48 swimmers. We will get there, and then we will set the bar higher! We had 4 swimmers win individual medals in Brantford, Maggie MacNeil and William Stewart each won 2 gold and 1 silver, while Jessica Allen won gold & silver and Aitana Robinson collected a bronze. We also had 6 other swimmers place in the top 8, and our 15-17 girls relay teams placed top 8 in each of the 4 relay events.
Aitana achieved her 1st ever senior national standard, while Jessica qualified for Pan-Am Trials, and there were 10 club records established – congratulations to Jessica (4), Maggie (4), Aitana (1) and William (1) for making LAC history! Finally, congratulations to Nathalie Stackhouse for breaking into the all-time top 10 LAC rankings.
In Barrie at their Pentathlon event, LAC swimmers won 8 of the 16 Saturday Pentathlon awards and 6 on the Sunday, and congratulations to Michael Quigley for achieving his 1st ever Provincial qualifying time. Our swimmers showed lots of stamina and toughness, racing 5 events in each session, as well as lots of versatility, as the evidence above (14 Pentathlon winners) suggests.
For a more complete analysis of our results check the “What’s New” section of the website.
Last weekend signalled the conclusion of the “short course” swim season. We will wind down just a little bit over the next week or two, catch our collective breath, and then get back to work as we all take aim at some great performances in the 50m pool. March and April will be the months for expanding your technical and endurance foundations, with our aim set on meets in May, June and July. The long course season, ironically, is much shorter than the short course season (4 months only instead of 6 months), so it’s important that, once we come back from our mini-“break”, we are all ready to work consistently hard toward some new goals!
GO LAC GO!

The Good Friday Pentathlon and the Hollandia Spring Invitational will be arriving before you know it. The sign-ups for senior officials for both meets are available using your OSOA.CA accounts. You can sign-up now for these jobs as long as you have qualified to do them by taking the clinic. This is a good opportunity to start working on your deck sign-offs and achieving level II official status this season.
The Western Region will be hosting our Spring Clinic Day on Saturday, March 7 at Conestoga College in Cambridge. This is an excellent way to attend live clinics for the jobs mentioned above. I have posted the flyer for these clinics on the Officials tab on the LAC Web Site. There is a selection of clinics in the morning and again in the afternoon. There is no charge, and morning refreshments and lunch are provided. I will be attending and would be happy to drive if anyone wants to hitch a ride. There are still seats available.
