Coaches Reports
Some swimmers think that when they get to the swim meet they will magically "rise to the occasion", that the personal bests and great performances will magically appear. But what really happens? In the critical moment (the competition or the game) we fall back on our training. It is not at the meet where you have the magic moment, it is in practice, day after day after day, pushing yourself to a level of exertion and effort that will make your race effort seem familiar, like you’ve done it before, over and over again...because you have, in practice! If you want to do something you’ve never done before in a race (a pb, for example), you have to do things in practice that you’ve never done before. If you can do this on a consistent basis, not only will you go into your next competition fitter and faster, you’ll go into it with more confidence, and instead of “hoping” for the magic performance, you can confidently go after it because you have the memory (mental and muscle) and the knowledge of all of those past workout moments to "fall back on". How you swim in practice is how you’ll swim in the meet – success is about turning practice results into competition reality! GO LAC GO!

CONGRATULATIONS to David Hickey, Leah Polito and Coach Liz for their selection to Team Ontario that will participate in the Eastern Canadian Tri-Meet and Camp in Montreal from May 5-10.

IT’S OFFICIAL!
Last week I complimented the group on a successful Pentathlon but I neglected to call out a few specific contributors. First time Meet Manager Martin Troughton and his meet management team of Tim Churchill did an excellent job! They were very thorough, asked lots of appropriate questions and had lots of new ideas. Most impressive! Special thanks to Bonnie Marceau our Meet Referee imported from the exotic location of St. Thomas. Another job well done!

A quick reminder to anyone interested in working senior positions at our upcoming meets, that they should sign up soon. You can sign up for Hollandia and the Swim Ontario Summer Festival now using your OSOA accounts. If you are not yet qualified but plan to be qualified before the meet, please let the Meet Referee know this by saying so in the comments when you register on-line.

I have arranged for a series of clinics toward the end of April and in early May. They will all be at CGAC. The sign-ups are not yet available but will be available later this week. Only the Timekeeper sign-up will be on the LAC site. All of the others will be done using your OSOA account. This is all explained on the Officials tab when you sign in to the LAC site. Here is the clinic schedule:
1. Chief Finish Judge and Chief Judge Electronics - Monday, April 20 5:30-8:00 P.M. – Lower Meeting Room
2. Clerk Of Course – Friday, April 24 – 5:30-7:30 P.M. – Lower Meeting Room
