Coaches Reports
Congratulations to everyone for some great racing and spirit at the Hauch Meet. For most of you Hauch signalled the end of the 2014-15 swim year - while you’re enjoying some time away from the pool, make sure you’re cheering for your LAC teammates who remain in their final preparation for some big meets coming up: Adam Purdy currently in Glasgow, Scotland at the PARA World Championships; 6 swimmers travelling to Kenyon College in Ohio for the Ohio Senior Championships; 6 swimmers competing in Quebec City at the National Age Group Championships; 4 swimmers racing in Pointe Claire at the Senior Nationals; Adam and Devin (and Darda) representing Canada at the Para Pan Ams in early August; and Maggie also wearing the maple leaf in Singapore in late August at the World Junior Championships.

Congratulations to David Hickey (silver), Alexander Pedda (bronze) and Emma Lazenby for their performances at the Provincial Open Water Championships last Wednesday in Brampton.

Congratulations - First time Regional Qualifiers: Ashton Kelly, Sijia Huang and Avery Vanrabaeys-Rinas.

Also at this time sadly we must say goodbye, and wish good luck, to 4 long-time members of our coaching staff who are moving on to other  adventures: Andrew Dragunas will be finishing his PhD in bio-mechanics at Western University this summer then joining his wife Jenny in Pennsylvania to pursue their dreams; Dayton Salmon will be attending the University of Waterloo in the fall in the Mechatronics program and is also hoping to do a bit of coaching with the university swim team; Cindy Salmon will be spending more time with family next year; and of course as you are all aware by now Donna Moskal, LAC’s longest-serving coach with 31 years wearing the orange & blue, year after year building great swimmers and great citizens, will be moving into her new role as Club Manager. I personally would like to extend warm and heartfelt thanks to each of them, they have all made my job easy and most enjoyable. It has been an honour and a privilege to work alongside each of them on the many pool decks of the region, province and country! They will be missed.

Have a safe and happy summer, wear lots of sunscreen and we look forward to seeing everyone in September.

Pan-American Games tickets
Swimming Canada is currently offering a 20% discount on all remaining available tickets for preliminaries and finals. The first day of swimming is Tue.Jul.14 and the last day is Sat.Jul.18. Tickets are NOT inexpensive - $65 for prelims and $145 for finals, per seat, with the 20% discount. The club will not be organizing a group trip, so if you wish to see some of the swimming “live”, you can make your arrangements through the Swimming Canada website. We are still investigating the ParaPan Am Games, as we have 3 current or former LAC’ers competing.

Laps for Lives 2015
Laps for Lives will take place on August 15th from 10am-4pm at Thames Park Pool. LAC swimmers in Age Group Silver and above are encouraged to swim on a team of 4 or more for a day of community, fun, and lots of swimming! Registration and pledge forms can be printed off the Laps for Lives website: Registration forms can be printed off, filled out and handed to Aitana, Emma or Katelyn or Tessa with the $25 registration fee by June 31st. Swimmers and families who do not participate are encouraged to come out on August 15th to support the swimmers and the cause. All money raised during this event will go towards the Adapted Fitness Centre, which introduces Thames Valley Children’s Centre (TVCC) youth to a healthy lifestyle of physical activity, exercise and well-being through fitness. If you have any questions, feel free to contact the team at

Can’t wait to see you there!

Awesome meet everyone! The Dr. Paul Hauch Invitational was another great success on the weekend with our Meet Manager Fraser Gatt arranging for excellent weather again!  Fraser is another one of those Alumni Officials that LAC is so lucky to have continuing to help for years after session credits have become meaningless. Thank you Fraser a job very well done! There are a lot of people to mention and I would certainly miss some if I tried to name them all so a huge thank you to all of the Alumni and out of town officials who staffed the senior officials grid. We absolutely could not run our meets without you. Thank you to the folks who signed up to help well in advance and to those who already had their session credits done and came out to help anyway. That is volunteerism and it is truly appreciated. As Meet Referee, I want to thank Mike Joudrey for calmly producing a full slate of minor officials when things looked grim. Mike and Mary are treasures for the Meet Referee. Thank to Laura and Vlado Bali for stepping in to organize and run the Canteen at the last minute. Finally, I want to mention Shari Blaha and the Awards team, especially since I missed them in the thank you after Festival, and the fabulous job that they did awarding medals on deck. These meets have a huge number of contributors and until you help with Meet Management or some other significant organizational aspect of a Swim Meet it is hard to fully appreciate everyone’s contribution. Thank you everyone!

Well, that’s it for the 2014/2015 season for most of us.  Enjoy your summer break and I’ll be back with officiating updates in the fall.
