Coaches Report

For many of you the next 2 weekends mark the first "away" racing opportunities of the season, either in Markham or Tillsonburg. Here are some things the coaching staff will be looking for: 1) great team spirit (LOUD & PROUD!) - this includes wearing your team uniform (most notably LAC bathing cap and outer wear, i.e., T-shirt, hoodie); participating in the team cheer; and supporting your teammates every time you see them swimming 2) punctuality - at the beginning of each session look your coach in the eye and say "Hi Coach, I'm here!" At the end of each session look your coach in the eye and ask: "I think I'm done Coach, what time do you want me here for the next session?" 3) pre- and post-swim reporting - the last person you see before your swim? your coach. The first person you see after your swim, your coach. 4) good warm-up habits - these include getting in on time, completing the entire warm-up, and asking your coach if there's anything they want to see before you finish your warm-up. A good warm-up will take between 30-45mins (take your time), and it should finish no earlier than 40mins before your first swim. 5) fuelling for performance - good eating and hydration habits, both at and away from the pool, with the main message being: make sure you're eating and drinking enough! 6) finally, RACE SMART, RACE TOUGH, and HAVE FUN! Take one positive from each swim, and one area for improvement, then get ready for the next one! Remember, it can be a good race without being a personal best.

CONGRATULATIONS to Leah Polito for her selection to and participation in Swim Ontario's 2017 Canada Games ID Camp at the Toronto Pan-Am Sports Centre last weekend.

Finally, everyone in the LAC family who knew her was saddened to hear of the recent passing of former club president Eunice Fowler. Eunice's daughter Stephanie swam with the club from 1999-2004, and Eunice was LAC president from 2003-05. She was a huge asset to our club, a tireless official who rose to Level 5 status and always brought a great smile and positive attitude to everything she did. Eunice will be deeply missed by all in the swimming community.

Viewing Practice at Memorial Boy’s and Girl’s Club

Since no parents are permitted to attend the children and youth programs in the building we have to follow this for all programs and rentals. Could you please connect with the representative for the swim teams who rent our facilities and let them know that starting Monday, October 26th anyone who wishes to watch their child in the pool will only be permitted to do so on the pool deck on the benches along the wall. Furthermore, in order to keep our facility clean we ask that everyone either bring sandals to change into before going onto the pool deck, wear the shoe covers provided, or go barefoot on the pool deck.

Thank You

Clinics! I am hosting 8 clinics prior to Nothers. For those of you wanting to take the Timer Clinic, it is now known as the Introduction to Swimming Officiating Clinic. Anyone can take any of the clinics except Referee, which is for Level III candidates and above. Look for the Clinic sign-ups on the LAC website this week. There is a session credit for everyone taking each clinic for the first time but repeats are welcome if anyone would like a refresher.

A reminder that ALL Officials MUST fill out and sign the Code of Conduct form AND the PIPEDA form. This is in addition to the one that you may have filled out for your swimmers. If you are intending to officiate this year and have not filled out BOTH of these forms then please sign in to the LAC site, hover your cursor over the Officials tab, select each form from the drop down, print and fill out the forms and drop them in the LAC mailbox at CGAC.

Once we create or activate your new officials account you will receive an email with your Username and Password and a link to the site. It is MANDATORY that you sign in to your account and fill in the missing and/or incorrect information.
