Coaches Report

CONGRATULATIONS to all of our swimmers who competed in the SWA Sprint meet in Tillsonburg this past weekend.  We had a great meet with lots of personal best times and some very tough racing, including from some of our newest and youngest LAC swimmers.

LAC’ers were full of team spirit in their Orange and Blue and kept up the great attitude and enthusiasm even through a very long Saturday session!  The coaches saw some great skills over the weekend, particularly on our starts and underwater work.  Now is the time to continue working hard as we move forward in our racing season with Nothers coming up at the end of the month. GO LAC GO! Coach Meggin

On that note, here's a thought from Olivier Poirier Leroy, a mental skills expert featured on the great swimming website SWIMSWAM http://swimswam.com/:

Lay the tracks in practice.
What we do in life echoes in eternity,” Russell Crowe told his soldiers in Gladiator. To paraphrase that quote for our purposes, what we do in practice echoes in competition. If you swim into every wall with your head up during practice odds are pretty good you will fall back on that nasty habit when you are dead tired at the end of a race. If you breathe every stroke when you are tired during a main set, that also will creep into your swimming in competition. Think of yourself as a little choo-choo train, and practice determines whether you are going to coast or fly down the tracks!

Congratulations to first time Regional Championship Qualifier Ashton Kelly.

Tourism London Spirit of Sport Awards

Many sincere congratulations to Steve Roman, who was recently recognized by the London Sports Council as one of London's outstanding volunteer sports administrators, for his years of service in the role of Treasurer with our club. Way to go Steve!

IT’S OFFICIAL!

Clinics!  There are still some clinics available this week and the sign-ups are posted on the LAC web site.  For those who wish to take the Timer Clinic, it is now known as the Intro to Swimming Officiating clinic.  Anyone can take any of the clinics.  Referee is really for Level III candidates and above.  You can take the Referee clinic if you are not Level II but you will probably need to do it again before you actually do this job.  There is a session credit for everyone taking each clinic for the first time but repeats are welcome if anyone would like a refresher.

Senior Officials at Nothers!  I have been receiving requests from LAC officials and officials from other clubs wishing work senior positions at Nothers.  Our meets are very well regarded as training opportunities for up and coming officials.  If you have taken a clinic or will have a clinic completed prior to Nothers and would like experience in that role, then please let me know by Thursday, November 12.  Email me with the sessions for which you are available, the positions that you would like to work, if you are new or already have experience in that job, and if you are seeking a sign-off.  If you are new then I will do my best to pair you with a mentor.  Note: It is seldom a problem, but due to the limited number of senior positions, there is no guarantee that you will get the requested job but I will do my best.  I will confirm your standing on the weekend.

Minor Officials at Nothers!  By the time you see this the sign-up for Minor officials should be posted on the LAC web site.  Please remember that ALL positions except Timer require the clinic PRIOR to doing the job.  Please sign up for jobs that you are qualified for.

If you have any questions please contact me, Mark Lukings L.A.C. Co-Club Officials Chair at lac.coc@gmail.com

Lost Bathing Suit

If any LAC swimmer picked up a new Arena racing suit in the women's changeroom in Markham at the Autumn/Harvest meet can you email Donna at lacmembership01@gmail.com and she will make sure it is returned to it's owner.

Session Credits

Session credit summaries can be found on the club website. To see your individual summary of all the sessions that you have worked this season you will need to go to the LAC website and follow these steps:

1) Sign into your account:

2) Under heading MY ACCOUNT

3) Click on the tab on the left side of the page MY INVOICE/ PAYMENT

4) Click on the tab SERVICE HOURS

There you will find all of your session credit information. The most important thing to remember is that it says service hours but for our club it is actually session credits and 1 hour = 1 session credit. If at any time you notice an error with your summary please contact Donna with your information (i.e. meet, date, time and job) and you credits will be rechecked. As always, members are advised to keep a record with dates, times and meets of the sessions they work. Please keep your emails with this information as it makes things much easier to track. Session Credit FAQ click here

For any further questions or concerns regarding session credits please contact lacmembership01@gmail.com
