Coaches Report

Great job by our 71 swimmers who raced last weekend in Etobicoke, Pointe Claire, and Bismarck. Lots of personal bests, led by our Pointe Claire group who performed to a 71% best times overall result, including 11 swimmers who achieved 100% pb's. Many, many thanks to our awesome team of Pointe Claire chaperones (led by Jane Callon) without whom our great results would not have been possible - Jane, Elizabeth, Sue, Corrie and Troy, you ROCK! Very special congratulations to first time qualifiers Samantha Fish (Provincials), and McKellar Watson and Sabrina Wang (Canadian Age Group Championships), and to Maggie MacNeil who established 8 individual club records and helped the 15/17 girls 4x50 Medley Relay establish a new mark (Jessica, Sabrina and Ellie were the other team members.)  A full breakdown of the numbers will be posted shortly to the "What's New" section of the website.

As we move into the holiday season, winding down this week (finishing with the Holiday Time Trial) and getting a well-deserved break next week, start thinking about what you want to achieve in 2016, and what you need to keep doing, start doing, and stop doing, to realize those objectives. It is time to re-energize and re-focus. Set the bar HIGH for 2016!

Holiday Time Trial

Warm up is 3:00 pm and the meet starts at 4:00 pm. Please bring in a donation for the food bank. There will be refreshments provided upstairs in the multi-purpose room towards the end of the meet. Happy Holidays!

IT’S OFFICIAL!

I had a great session with two interested officials on Sunday where I gave a brief demo of the Quantum Timing System.  Both of them left wanting to learn more!  I have another session on Wednesday, this week, from 5:30 to 6:30 P.M. in the downstairs meeting room at CGAC.  Anyone who is interested can feel free to drop in to learn more about this great job.

The Winter Western Ontario Officials Clinics will be held on Saturday, February 6 at the St. Thomas Campus of Fanshawe College.  I will post the flyer shortly but the morning session starts at 8:30 A.M. with refreshments and the clinics run from 9:00 to 11:30 A.M.  Lunch is provided free of charge and the second set of clinics run from 12:30 to 3:00 P.M.  For the morning session you can choose from Referee, Chief Timekeeper, Recorder Scorer, and the Introduction to Swimming Officiating.  The choices in the afternoon include Starter, Meet Manager, Chief Finish Judge/Chief Judge Electronics, Clerk of Course, and Strokes and Turns/Head Lane Timer.  This is a great opportunity to learn from some experienced officials from other clubs and it is a great learning environment because of the discussions that can take place.  If there are people interested in moving to Level III and above then this would be a great place to take the Referee and Starter clinics.  The Referee clinic is required for Level III.  You can register by emailing Carol at westernswimofficials@gmail.com

If you have any questions please contact me, Mark Lukings L.A.C. Co-Club Officials Chair at lac.coc@gmail.com
