Coaches Report

Good job by all swimmers at the 4 meets in which we competed last weekend. At our 12&Under Celebration many of you realized pb's coming out of your holiday training, with reports of very good clean swimming skills, with starts & turns identified as an area to continue working on. With that in mind for our 12&Under program we will be implementing an extra Thu pm skill session at CGAC from 5:30-6:30pm to work on these 2 areas (starts&turns) as we move forward. Your coach will let you know when you will be scheduled to come in for this extra session.

Here's a training tip from SwimSwam contributor Olivier Leroy Poirier on the importance of swimming SLOW: Take your foot off the gas. Going fast is great. Going fast is exhilarating. Going fast is just flat out fun. Balance that super swiftness with some slow, focus-based swimming where you are noticing your hand placement, your feel for the water, and any leaks in power. It’s hard to keep track all of this stuff when we are driving through the water with all of our might, so nail the details when your coach asks you to slow down...get the little things right and ramp up the speed from there!

CONGRATULATIONS to first time Regional qualifiers: Kiera Ball, Siporah Sang, and George Trevor and to first time Provincial qualifier Sonya Demidenok.

LAC will once again be fundraising using Swim Canada’s online fundraising program.

Our club goal is to raise $20,000. This money will go towards:

1. Competition equipment upgrades to further enhance the swim meet experience for our own swimmers as well as those from visiting clubs.

2. Offsetting costs associated with unique professional development opportunities for our coaches.

3. Further upgrades to our Club's technological needs (video equipment, tempo trainers, heart rate monitors, etc.)

All LAC swimmers are encouraged to participate. Swim-A-Thon will be held on April 2 at CGAC and CHOCC. This is a great team building event. Prizes for top fundraisers will be posted in future newsletters, stay tuned.

Please go to our club link at   and register your swimmer and start spreading the word to family, friends, business colleagues, social contacts and those that support the sport of swimming in our community, province and Canada. Parent/Legal Guardian or Parent’s company are not eligible for a charitable tax receipt. If you have any questions about Swim-a-Thon please contact Donna at

It’s Official!

The 12 and Under Celebration was another great success!  Great job Steve Baarda (Meet Manager) and Denise McDonald (Competition Coordinator).   Thanks to all of the volunteers from LAC, and those visiting from out of town.  Congratulations to Crosby Gibson who was successfully evaluated as a new Level 5 (Master) official and thanks to everyone who is moving forward by getting sign-offs for deck experience to those who are working on moving up the officiating ladder.

Our next meet is the LAC Long Course Pentathlon on March 25.  If you are interested in working as a senior official to get some experience, having taken the clinic, then please contact Bonnie Marceau at  Bonnie is already receiving requests for positions so get your name in there.  It is OUR meet!  If it is your first time doing the job and would like a mentor then please let Bonnie know.

Upcoming Clinics:

The Winter Western Ontario Officials Clinics will be held on Saturday, February 6 at the St. Thomas Campus of Fanshawe College.  I have posted the flyer on the LAC web site under the Officials tab that appears after you sign in to the site.  Please read it, register, and come out, as this is a great opportunity to learn from some very experienced officials.

Officiating Opportunities:

For those working on moving up the ladder or if you are going to these meets and don't enjoy sitting in the stands or if you just like to be helpful, here are some non-LAC officiating opportunities.  Your swimmer(s) may be attending 1 or 2 of these.  FYI away meets do not earn session credits but they are great experiences:

1. The Western Region Sting Meet - Hosted by Wilmot Aquatic Aces - January 30 and 31, 2016

2.  Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Finals – Hosted by Western University - February 11-13.  Please email officiating requests to Suzanne Paulins at

3. Western Region Champs - Hosted by Brantford Aquatic Club - February 26-28th: Senior Officials - Crosby Gibson Minor Officials -

If you have any questions please contact me, Mark Lukings L.A.C. Co-Club Officials Chair at
