Coaches Report

We are very excited to announce that our 8 new Omega starting blocks with the kickplate on the back edge, and 9 backstroke start ledges, have arrived and we are currently working on a plan to have at least some of them installed for training purposes. This new equipment will help to ensure that we continue to deliver the very best competitive experience for our own and visiting swimmers, as well as giving our swimmers the opportunity to practice starts with the most current equipment. It was last year's SWIMATHON success which helped us to be in a financial position to make this significant equipment upgrade, so please take note of the information about our upcoming 2016 SWIMATHON, so we can once again look at program upgrades for 2016-17.

We are also proud to let you know that we had 4 coaches (Ayman, Katelyn, Meaghan and Taylor) recently complete their Coaching 101 certification. We now have 18 coaches who are fully certified and "compliant" with Swim Ontario, more than any other swim club in Ontario. Rest assured that we are doing everything we can to expand our knowledge and experience, and will continue to work hard to ensure the best competitive swimming experience for our swimmers.

We are currently investigating the possibility of a day trip to Toronto to watch the Olympic/Paralympic Trials. The date being considered is Sat.Apr.9. Group sales open on Mon.Feb.1 so we need confirmation by this Saturday (Jan.30) if you are interested in attending. The cost will be approximately $75, which includes transport by school bus, admission, and food. The first 2000 tickets sold will receive a commemorative Swimming Canada bathing cap, a "pep" talk before evening finals by a former Olympian, and an opportunity for a training session in the warm-up/warm-down pool between prelims and finals.

Swimmers must confirm their attendance through the "EVENTS" section of the website, under the "Team Function" tab, where you must sign up. There is a limit of 44 swimmers. The bus will depart CGAC at 7am and return at 11pm on April 9.

If you are interested in attending other days of the meet, tickets can be purchased through the Swim Ontario website. A 6-day pass is $255, a 3-day weekend pass is $144, individual prelim session tickets are $15, individual finals session tickets are $40, and individual full day tickets are $50. 6-day and 3-day passes are available for purchase now, individual tickets will be available on Feb.1.

LAC will once again be fundraising using Swim Canada’s online fundraising program.

Our club goal is to raise $20,000. This money will go towards:

1. Competition equipment upgrades to further enhance the swim meet experience for our own swimmers as well as those from visiting clubs.

2. Offsetting costs associated with unique professional development opportunities for our coaches.

3. Further upgrades to our Club's technological needs (video equipment, tempo trainers, heart rate monitors, etc.)

All LAC swimmers are encouraged to participate. Swim-A-Thon will be held on April 2 at CGAC and CHOCC. This is a great team building event.

Please go to our club link at   and register your swimmer and start spreading the word to family, friends, business colleagues, social contacts and those that support the sport of swimming in our community, province and Canada. Parent/Legal Guardian or Parent’s company are not eligible for a charitable tax receipt. If you have any questions about Swim-a-Thon please contact Donna at

Upcoming Clinics:

The Winter Western Ontario Officials Clinics will be held on Saturday, February 6 at the St. Thomas Campus of Fanshawe College.  I have posted the flyer on the LAC web site under the Officials tab that appears after you sign in to the site.  Please read it, register, and come out, as this is a great opportunity to learn from some very experienced officials.

Officiating Opportunities:

For those working on moving up the ladder, or if you are going to these meets and don't enjoy sitting in the stands, or if you just like to be helpful, here are some non-LAC officiating opportunities.  All of these meets have people involved who help out at our meets regularly. Your swimmer(s) may be attending 1 or more of these.  FYI away meets do not earn session credits but they are great experiences:

2. SWA Winter Invitational – February 12-14 at the Tillsonburg Community Centre.  Please contact Rusty Pittock
