Looking ahead to this weekend we are revving up for our championship season. LAC will be represented at two meets: Coach Andrew and the senior qualifiers at the Eastern Canadian Championship in Montreal and Coach Liz with the age group qualifiers at the Swim Ontario Winter Festival in Markham.

Congratulations to First Time Regional Qualifier: Amaris Peng

To the athletes continuing their training into WOSA, continue to train smart, and to those racing this weekend, race tough. GO LAC GO!

OUA Meet Report

The Ontario University Swimming Championships (OUA) were held this past weekend at Western University. The excitement and level of swimming were very high.  A total of 25 new meet records, along with 3 national records, were set in a very fast pool.  Live video broadcast, live results and live social media updates meant more people than ever could follow the event.

There were 9 current and former LACers competing on behalf of 5 different Ontario universities.

The Western University team finished second in both the Women’s and Men’s team standings.  On the Men’s side there were solid top ten performances from David Armstrong (Bronze medal - 200 FR Relay, 7th - 200IM, 8th - 50BK, 9th -100BK), Vincent Cappa (5th place 400IM), and Nathan Lethbridge (Bronze medals - 200 & 400 FR Relay, 8th - 100 Fly, 9th - 50 Fly).  All three of these young men have qualified and look forward to representing Western at the Canadian Inter-University Swim Championships (CI’s) at Laval University in Quebec City, February 25-28.

Paulina Bond and Emily Williams, both of whom have competed for LAC in the past, represented Western Women.  Paulina recorded Gold medals in the 50FR, 50Fly, and 400FR relay all three of which were new OUA records and Silver medals in the 100 FR and 100Fly. She has qualified and will be competing at CI’s in a few weeks.  Team Captain Emily Williams placed 9th in the 400 IM.

Former LAC swimmers were well represented with Josie Andre (Waterloo University), Emma Jackson (Guelph University), Brittany Lewis (Brock University) and Shayna Lewis (University of Ottawa).  Josie has also qualified to swim at CI’s in 2 weeks.

Thank you to all of the LAC families that volunteered their time in making this a premier event.  Special thanks to the equipment set-up crew for an expedient and thorough set-up and tear-down, Mark Lukings and Greg Lewis for their electronics expertise, and our swimmers, Jessica and Ellie and coach Brandon for timing and Leah, Julia and Katie for assisting with the awards presentations.  Laurie Bruvall was invaluable in organizing the minor officials and assisting in the office for the entire meet.
