Coaches Report

BE A LITTLE CRAZY! (from Olivier Leroy Poirier at YourSwimBook)

Nobody chases unrealistic goals. Okay, I shouldn’t say nobody. Very few do. The “crazy” goals are in rarer waters, meaning that there are fewer people chasing after them. (More room for you.) Most swimmers are content to chase after safe, mediocre and “easily” achievable goals. Why do we do succumb to the pull of mediocrity? Perhaps because it’s what we have come to believe is to be expected. For many of us it’s about staying comfortable, staying within the familiar confines of our own lane lines. Greatness is not a normal act. It’s weird. It sticks out, and it is sure to get you some looks. It flies in the face of the mental lock-step that we fall into when surrounded by people who tell us how it is and how it will be. To be the best you can be, remember that mediocrity has a gravitational effect...it's easy to be average. You need to be just crazy enough, and confident enough, to believe that greatness is something within you, and then get to work chasing that big dream!

*Important WOSA Champs reminder: the meet is now a full 3 days, with 13&over prelim warm-up starting at 7am on Fri.June 3. Please be aware of this when making your travel plans. The coaches strongly recommend staying overnight in Windsor on Thu.June 2 if you are racing on Friday morning.

WOSA LC Championships Windsor

It was necessary to make some changes to team travel for the WOSA championships in Windsor the weekend of June 3 -5, due to the early warm up time on the Friday am. We will now be travelling down on the Thursday evening and will need to adjust the approximate cost to $325 for the weekend including; meals, accommodations and transportation. If you have any concerns with the arrangements please email Donna at lacmembership01@gmail.com We are still looking for chaperones for this event, if you are interested please contact Donna.

Hotel for WOSA Champs: originally the team had a block of rooms at the Quality Suites but they are under renovations and not able to accommodate us, they did find us rooms at another hotel with free parking and breakfast. The cost per room will be $135. The new hotel is a former Days Inn, currently Sunrise Inn and soon to be Quality Inn 675 Goyeau St, Windsor, ON N9A 1H3, PH: 519-258-8411. Their booking system is now set up so please call and to book your room by May 15.

It’s Official!

Alex Vanderkam vanderkam6404@rogers.com is our Competition Coordinator for Hollandia in May.  If you are interested in working in specific senior positions at this meet, especially if you want to be paired with a mentor, please let Alex know NOW.

If anyone is interested in learning how to operate the timing system, there is no clinic for this job.  It is learned on-the-job with a mentor.  If you would like to try this, with a mentor, at Hollandia, please let Alex know.

Officiating Clinics!

The Introduction to Swimming Officiating and the Strokes and Turns clinics are scheduled for next week and sign-ups are posted on the LAC Home Page.  These are considered entry level clinics.  You can take them in any order.

Minor Officials

Ideally you will have the intro clinic prior to timing but it is NOT required.  To work as a Strokes and Turns official you MUST have taken the clinic.  If have already taken the clinic or you are certain that you will be attending the Strokes and Turns clinic next week and have signed up for the clinic then you can sign up now to do the job at Hollandia.  If you are doing Strokes and Turns for the first time at Hollandia, please say (New S&T) after your name in the comments when signing up for the job and you will be placed between a couple of experienced officials who can mentor you.
