Coaches Report

What a great weekend of racing at Hollandia, from start to finish throughout the meet and throughout every race, lots of smart, tough swimming! Inclusive of events that were successfully swum for the first time ever in the long course pool, we achieved over 1000 personal bests, and converted over 85% of our swims into new best times. Of our 165 swimmers who raced, 73 of you achieved PB's in 100% of your swims, and of those 73 there were 32 of you who were either 10/10 or 11/11, which is an outstanding display of durability, focus and consistency. Enthusiasm, Effort and Execution were on display in full force by LAC. For a full breakdown of our results please see the "WHAT'S NEW" section of the website, where a more comprehensive breakdown will be posted.

Very special congratulations to our 13 first-time qualifiers: Regionals - Alex Beckett, Thomas Belton, Samantha Elkami, Andrew Guo, Marie-Claire Laberge, Ella Mills, Alana Skilling, and Vivian Yuan; Provincials - Nikola Darvill-Kaiser and Ewan Shearer; Age Group Nationals - Jack Haycock; Eastern Canadians - David Hickey and Michael Quigley.

And finally a big THANK YOU to our parents for giving so generously of their time to ensure yet another great competitive event, and especially to those of you who came through in the 11th hour to fill those last volunteer positions which were so desperately required.

Onward and upward now - only 3 weeks until Regionals, 5 weeks to the 13&Under Festival, and 7 weeks until Provincials. Use these great Hollandia results as a springboard to even more fast swimming in the weeks ahead!

Hollandia Meet Management Thank-you:

The meet management would like to express our sincere thanks to all who made the 25th anniversary of the Hollandia Invitational a success. After all, it is about the swimmers and the love of the sport. If this was your first meet, I’m sure you were surprised at the number of volunteers required to support an event involving 800 swimmers from across the province. We are still impressed by the level of commitment given by every coach, parent, official, lifeguard and of course the swimmers themselves at this meet and every meet we host. People love coming to swim meets in London for a reason and YOU are that reason. Know that we appreciate everything you do.

NOTICE OF LAC ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

The LAC Board of Directors extends an invitation to all LAC parents to attend the upcoming Annual General Meeting of the Club. The AGM will be held on Monday, June 20th, 2016 beginning at 7.00 pm at the Canada Games Aquatic Centre in the upper level meeting room. Attendance is not mandatory; however, we encourage at least one member of each swim family to attend this very informative evening and earn one session credit for doing so. New swim families will receive one session credit that may be applied next season.

Further information including a copy of the Minutes from the 2015 AGM and a proxy for 2015 is posted on the website under the Events tab.

If you have any questions please contact me at swim4life@isp.ca .

It’s Official!

Hi everyone!  We had a lot of compliments on the weekend regarding how well we run our meets and everyone who gave their time officiating or in one of the many very important support roles can be very proud of the part that they played in the 25th  Annual Hollandia Spring Invitational this past weekend!  Special praise to Ed MacNeil, Steve Langham, and Alex Vanderkam for all of the prep work leading up to the meet and for being there for the entire event.  My newsletters are too long to mention everyone but there are a number of other people who work prior to AND at the meet.  We know who you are and we really appreciate all of your efforts.  Outstanding job everyone!

We had lots of people trying new jobs and getting sign-offs for ones that they have been doing for a while.  This is great to see!  There are also a few people stepping up and working toward level II and level III.  A number of people are getting close and Geoff Moskalyk received his final sign-off for level II on Saturday.  Way to go Geoff!

Looking ahead, we have 2 more meets to host this season, the WOSA Sting Meet on June 11 and 12 and the season ending outdoor event, the Dr. Paul Hauch Invitational, July 8 to 10.  If you are interested in working, or mentoring in, a senior official position at the WOSA Sting Meet, please email the Competition Coordinator, Greg Lewis, at britshay@sympatico.ca  For senior jobs at the Hauch meet, please email me as I am the competition coordinator at that event.  These two meets are more relaxed and provide great opportunities to try those positions where you have done the clinic but have never tried the job.  Keep in mind though that both of these meets are single ended so each session has fewer opportunities.  It is not too soon to reserve your spot for one of these jobs.

The clinic hosting season is winding down quickly.  I will probably host another 2 Introduction to Swimming Clinics to provide a chance for a couple of people to teach and I want offer 2 clinics that got missed in the last round (Starter and Referee).  If you have a desire for another course that you have been unable to attend, please let me know, and I will see what I can do if the demand is sufficient.

Finally, looking ahead to next season, we will be needing Meet Managers and we need to have those arranged before the end of THIS season.  If you are interested, even if you have not taken the clinic, please let me know and I will pass that information along.  If we get enough interest, we will have meet management teams, where it makes sense. We have a number of Meet Managers who are REALLY good at this now and it is probably time for them to take on an apprentice!

If you have any questions please contact me, Mark Lukings L.A.C. Co-Club Officials Chair at lac.coc@gmail.com
