Workout Changes

We are now on our first “summer” training schedule. Be reminded that for your workouts taking place at the Thames Park Outdoor Pool you should plan to arrive at least 10 minutes early to help with lane rope and backstroke flag installation, as well as giving yourself time to apply ample sunscreen.

Fri Jun 3 Senior Gold/Silver 6:00-7:30am at CGAC (no pm workout)

Fri Jun 3 Age Group Gold/Silver 5:00 - 6:00 pm at CGAC

Sat Jun 4 Senior Gold/Silver & Age Group Gold/Silver/Bronze 7:00 - 9:00 am Thames

The summer schedules are posted on the website under the “schedule tab”. There are two schedules: one from May 28 – June 30 and the other from July 2 – 7. Those swimmers continuing to train and compete after Hauch will receive their updated summer schedule from Coach Craven.

Coaches Report

Consistency trumps motivation every time.  There is a mistaken belief that in order to get jacked up and perform well at the pool, we need to be fully and thoroughly inspired. That every workout needs to involve a Cesar Cielo-style chest slapping, a Gary Hall-shadow box, and a Michael Phelps-themed thousand yard stare.  The problem with motivation is that rarely is it ever constant - some days we feel fully primed, ready to take on the world, while others we struggle through the day, grasping on the first passable excuse to tone down our effort in the pool.  Our performances in the pool are a reflection of the consistency we show at pool. It’s not a motivation contest, it’s a “who can show up most consistently and drop the most number of gangster workouts into the inventory” contest.

Swimmers, as above under “Workout Changes”, please remember for those of your workouts under the new schedule taking place at Thames Park, lane ropes and backstroke flags need to be installed, and sunscreen needs to be applied. For this to happen and have you getting in the water at the appointed time, you need to arrive EARLY.

It’s Official!

Hi everyone!

We have 2 more meets to host this season, the WOSA Sting Meet June 11-12 and the season ending outdoor event, the Dr. Paul Hauch Invitational, July 8-10.  If you are interested in working, or mentoring in, a senior official position at the WOSA Sting Meet, please email the Competition Coordinator, Greg Lewis, at  For senior jobs at the Hauch meet, please email me as I am the competition coordinator at that event.  These two meets are more relaxed and provide great opportunities to try those positions where you have done the clinic but have never tried the job.  Keep in mind though that both of these meets are single ended so each session has fewer opportunities.  It is never too soon to reserve your spot for one of these jobs at an upcoming meet.

The clinic hosting season is winding down quickly.  I will probably host another 2 Introduction to Swimming Clinics to provide a chance for a couple of people to teach and I want to offer 2 clinics that got missed in the last round (Starter and Referee).  If you have a desire for another course that you have been unable to attend, please let me know, and I will see what I can do if the demand is sufficient.  At this point, these clinics will probably be after the Sting Meet.  Timing can be done without the clinic but if you were intending to work a position at the Sting Meet that requires a clinic that you have not taken, please let me know and I will work with you.

Finally, looking ahead to next season, we will be needing Meet Managers and we need to have those arranged before the end of THIS season.  If you are interested, even if you have not taken the clinic, please let me know and I will pass that information along.  If we get enough interest, we will have meet management teams, where it makes sense. We have a number of Meet Managers who are REALLY good at this now and it is probably time for them to take on an apprentice!

If you have any questions please contact me, Mark Lukings L.A.C. Co-Club Officials Chair at
