Coaches Report

CONGRATULATIONS to our 89 swimmers who raced in Windsor last weekend at the WOSA Championships. With some great work behind us in the weeks leading up to the meet, we were able to churn our way with confidence and determination and skill to the overall team championship. Top 5 team rankings were: LAC 1223pts - ROW 829pts - WAC 828pts - WEST 788pts - GHAC 684.5pts.

Our best time conversion rate was 57.6% (316 pbs out of 548 individual races), and 11 swimmers achieved 100% personal bests. We had 57 swimmers with a top 10 finish, 31 swimmers collected a total of 94 individual medals (29 gold, 30 silver, and 35 bronze), and 8 relay teams finished on the podium (3 gold, 3 silver, 2 bronze). As well, of our 157 13/over evening finals swims, 126 of them were faster than in the morning preliminaries, and there were many relay splits which were faster than times achieved in the individual event, which tells us that many of you were standing up and digging down for your team and your teammates! For a more detailed look at our results, go to the "News" section of the website.

Special congratulations to club record-setter Carter Buck in the 11/12 boys 50BK, and to our first time qualifiers Emilee Pool, Erin Pool and Josh Ellis (Provincials) and Ben Rosedale (Eastern Canadians).

Finally a "shout-out" to Team Manager Donna for taking such good care of our 24 team travellers - THANK YOU Donna!

The AGM will be held on Monday, June 20th, 2016 beginning at 7.00 pm at the Canada Games Aquatic Centre in the upper level meeting room. Attendance is not mandatory; however, we encourage at least one member of each swim family to attend this very informative evening and earn one session credit for doing so. New swim families will receive one session credit that may be applied next season.

Further information including a copy of the Minutes from the 2015 AGM and a proxy for 2015 is posted on the website under the Events tab.

It’s Official!

The WOSA Sting Meet (June 11-12) and the Dr. Paul Hauch Invitational (July 8-10) will require senior officials (other than Strokes and turns and timing) and for every one of those we have an opportunity to mentor someone who has taken the clinic but has not yet tried the job.  If you are interested in working, or mentoring in, a senior official position at the WOSA Sting Meet, please email the Competition Coordinator, Greg Lewis, at  For senior jobs at the Hauch meet, please email me.  It is never too soon to reserve your spot for one of these jobs at an upcoming meet, but it can be too late.  Don’t be disappointed, ask early!

I will probably be hosting 1 or 2 more Introduction to Swimming Clinics (formerly known as the Timer clinic) closer to the Hauch meet to allow people to fulfill their obligation to have that clinic completed in their first season.   Timing can be done without the clinic but the clinic covers much more than timing and that is why the LAC registration package indicates that this clinic is a requirement.  If you have a desire for another course and you have been unable to attend the previous clinics this year, please let me know, and I will see what I can do, if the demand is sufficient.  It is not common, but I have been known to do 1 on 1 clinics for highly motivated officials.

Looking ahead to next season, we will be needing Meet Managers and we need to have those arranged before the end of THIS season.  If you are interested, even if you have not taken the clinic, please let me know and I will pass that information along.  If we get enough interest, we will have Meet Management teams, where it makes sense. We have a number of Meet Managers who are REALLY good at this now and it is probably time for them to take on an apprentice!
