NEWSLETTER 2015-16 ISSUE 42

Workout Changes

The final schedule starts Sat July 2 – Thurs July 7. Those swimmers continuing to train and compete after Hauch will receive their updated summer schedule from Coach Craven.

The 2016-17 swim season will commence on Mon.Sept.19 for all except Senior Gold&Senior Silver swimmers, who will start on Mon.Sept.12.

Coaches Report

A big CONGRATULATIONS to our 27 swimmers who raced last weekend at the Provincial Championships in Etobicoke. We had the 9th largest squad at the meet, and placed 11th overall in the final team standings, out of 81 clubs. While we only achieved 30 personal bests out of 107 individual swims, there was plenty of really tough racing on display, and I believe our % of PB's was probably higher than the meet average. At the recently concluded US Olympic Trials, the PB conversion rate in the preliminary sessions was a mere 18%...achieving personal bests at the championship meet is not easy, and it gets harder the faster you get. There are certainly no guarantees, even when you have done the necessary work. Our swimmers did a great job of supporting one another and staying positive throughout, and our best day was our last day, which is always a great statement.

Special recognition goes to Maggie MacNeil for her 4 medal performance (1G-2S-1B) as well as setting a club record in the 200 butterfly. Maggie also helped the 15-17 girls 4x50 Medley Relay race to a bronze medal and set a club record, with other team members Jessica Allen, Sabrina Wang and Ellie Wong. Devin Gotell also collected 4 medals in the PARA program (2S-2B), while we had 8 other individual event finalists. Congratulations as well to Brigitte Ryan, who swam to a first time Eastern Canadian QT as well as her first All Time Top 10 performances.

Good luck to our 7 swimmers competing in the Open Water Provincial Championships tomorrow at Professor's Lake in Brampton, and good luck to everyone finishing their year with the Hauch Meet this weekend. While the meet is largely a chance to have fun in the sun (hopefully), it is still an opportunity to race well and strive for personal best times. So, when you're not racing, have fun, keep yourself protected from the sun and well-hydrated, and when it's time to race, get into your "zone" and go for it!

LAC GRADUATES

The entire LAC family would like to congratulate and extend sincere best wishes to our 6 graduating swimmers, who will be moving on to the next exciting chapter of their academic and athletic careers: Yousir Aldin, Ryan Estabrooks, Taylor MacMillan, Ben Rosedale, Nathalie Stackhouse and Sabrina Wang - you have demonstrated great attitudes, great work ethics, and been great teammates. Those character traits will certainly hold you in good stead as you take the next step. Remember that you will always be part of the LAC family.

Examples from previous years are $5 gift cards, Towels, Water bottles and a variety of fun toys for the kids to play with around the pool for the day.

It’s Official!

Congratulations to Steve Baarda!  With the Introduction to Swimming Officiating clinic that he recently taught, Steve completed the final requirement to become a Level III official.  Way to go Steve, our newest level III official!  Watch for Steve blowing the whistle at a meet near you!

We Need Officials For Hauch!

It is just 3 days until our final LAC-hosted meet of the season, the Dr. Paul Hauch Invitational (July 8-10).  We currently we do not have enough Timers or Strokes and Turns officials to run ANY of the sessions.  This is the point in the season where true volunteerism comes into play.  Many of you have all of your session credits and the REQUIREMENT is done.  Don’t let that stop you.  The swimmers are counting on your help to make this another great LAC meet.  It is time to CHOOSE to come out and help.  We have fresh air, shade, food and a lot of excited kids whose weekend you will have helped make great with the contribution of your time and efforts!  Don’t wait to see if someone else will do it!  Sign up now!  I hope to see the sign-ups full and all of you there this weekend!

The dress code for Hauch is white on top and something cool, comfortable and dignified from the waist down.  Hats are fine and sunscreen is recommended!  Don’t forget a water bottle.

If you have any questions please contact me, Mark Lukings L.A.C. Co-Club Officials Chair at lac.coc@gmail.com
